- Immersion suits should be inspected by the crew monthly on board, according to SOLAS III/20.7 and MCS/Cric. 1047. It is also recommended that each suit is subjected to an air pressure test such as the following, at intervals not exceeding three years and more frequently for suits over ten years of age.
Inspect for holes, tears or signs of wear. Suits used in salt water or in pools should be rinsed thoroughly inside and out with fresh water and turned inside out to dry, but not in direct sunlight. Grease and oil should be removed from suits with mild soap. Do not dry clean.
The zipper should be fully zipped, and any face flap closed. The suit should then be inflated to a pressure of 0.7 to 1.4 kPa (0.1 to 0.2 psi). If an auxiliary inflatable means of buoyancy is provided, it should be inflated through the oral valve to a pressure of 0.7 kPa (0.1 psi) or until firm to the touch.
MSC/Circ. 1114 Guidelines for periodic testing of Immersion suit for air pressure test.
its has to be pressure tested every 3yrs....for immersion suit of more than 10yrs old it should be tested every 2 years.... test pressure 0.7 kpa to 1.4kpa...
