The name Bhaktivedanta was given by his godbrother and "siksa guru" as he himself called him: Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar Dev Goswami Maharaj. Swami Prabhupad in fact asked him to give him sannyasi, but because of their closed relationship he suggest him to take the matra from Kesava Maharaj, since he got the sannyasi mantra from him, and it would be as if he was taking it from himself (from Srila Sridhar Maharaj).

*Sri* - all opulences
*Lila* - lila, games
Srila Prabhupada was full of opulences. He opened so many temples, published many books, etc. All he did was lila. This is not some kind of karmic activity that we are constantly doing. Because of our past karma, we are now forced to act in accordance with it. But he came by order of Krishna to fulfill His desires.
*Sri* - also means Lakshmi
Total. Srila - Lashmi serves a devotee and helps in everything and all the activities of such a devotee are lilas, satisfaction of Krishna's desires.
