This song is basically a women empowerment song! Telling ladies that they’re strong and perfect the way they are! For no particular reason!
It was written after backlash about the lyrics & mv for War of Hormone.
Amethyst Arthur People say that but this song was released years after war of hormone so I really doubt that it is a direct product.
@@spideylexi As far as I know the backlash about War of Hormone came way after the song was released. I think I remember reading, that once BTS got more international fans, more and more people pointed out the lyrics and therefore the backlash started. I wouldn't know for sure, so correct me if I'm wrong.

I think Namjoon was the only one that didn't have to be talked into wearing his costume, like AT ALL. That man used to be, maybe still is, the biggest Ryan fan EVER!
He used to have his bed covered in stuffed animal versions of the character and Jimin even gave Namjoon a Ryan themed birthday cake once, to which Namjoon started hopping like an excited first grader, so cute!
I didn't know it was Ryan!!! I always thought Joon was dressed as Sakura Card Captor's Kero, because of the wings on his back and Tae wearing a Li Shaoran costume with a little Kero plushie in his hands

@@angelagajardo4172 what gave it away for me, is the white part of the snout on the hat that Joon is wearing. As far as I remember, Kero has a completely yellow/orange face with no white snout thing

Jimin is dressed as the cabbage that is mainly used to make kimchi. Yoongi is dressed as the character that Park Bogum was playing at in a drama he was watching (I think someone said this on twitter)

“21st Century Girls” (21세기 소녀) is the 13th track from BTS' 2016 album “WINGS” and 2017 Repackage album “You Never Walk Alone”.
The track, which was written by RM, “hitman” Bang, Supreme Boi, and P Dogg was an attempt to cut through self-esteem and self-worth issues plaguing many young females, and seeked to rectify societal pressures of girls in South Korea to prettify themselves via plastic surgery & extensive makeup, or even alter their persona. Rather, the lyrics urge them to not alter themselves to seek approval from the virtual world, but to remain as individuals with courage and purpose in their lives.
It's a pity you didn't see a live performance, you can better appreciate the choreography which was created by JK.
RM speaks to this also in 'Do You'

from what i know, the history behind this song is bts got a lot of backlash for their song war of hormone. if you've seen the lyrics, you can imagine why they're kinda seen as problematic as it objectifies women. namjoon was crushed at the negative feedback and realization. you can't completely blame him, since he was a kid who was raised listening to hip-hop which is notorious for those kinds of lyrics, even worse imo. but like a good leader, he took this criticism to heart, learned from his mistakes, and ended up writing this women-empowering song :')

According to a fan signing, Jimin was actually going to be wearing a cheese costume at first but when heard Jungkook was going to be a Bunny changed it to the Cabbage/Lettuce so that Jungkook could "eat him", very cute haha
You are right. There was a trigger for this song. It was in response to BTS being accused of misogyny with songs such as "War of Hormones" and BTS' handling of females in "Boy In Luv'. So Namjoon decided to turn those accusations upside down by releasing this song.

Ah yes this song,oh my this was my first BTS live stage I ever watched. I wasn't into BTS at that time and I honestly thought the fan chant was part of the song, I was so disappointed when I bought the CD and no fan chant lol. Jimin is a cabbage, Jin a cowboy i think, suga korean costume, RM is Ryan the character of kakao talk, V is sakura Cardcaptor (an anime character I watched when I was little 🥰 and he is holding Kero, her companion), Jungkook is a bunny, and Jhope a skeleton.
This is one of my fav BTS songs! The beat is on point! The mv always makes me howl! DT, you didn't see all the little chaotic things that were happening because things happen so fast. If you want to see more of the humor of this fabulous mv, just watch any 'What you didn't notice about..." mv. There are close-ups to show all the little things, especially all the unintentional tripping in that one part. Just remembering them is cracking me up 😅🤣😂😆😄😉😁

What I thought the first time I heard this song was that it was like a counterpart to War Of Hormones, like a response to all the criticism they got for that song, and it's a great woman's empowerment song, to all the 21 st century girls who are criticized for the way they talk, look and behave.
It's a call to all the girls to be true to themselves and don't try to fit in others expectations.
This is a message that's not just good for me but a message that I would like my friends, cousins, nieces and in the future my daughter (if I have one) to listen and put into practice.

As stated by Rebecca Beebe . I think Boy in Love was also included with War of Hormones in the misogyny scandal . BTS and Big Hits made a public apology and RM began tostudy psychology to better relate to people and had his lyrics review by a Women's Studies Professor to make sure his lyrics did not offend their fan again. Also I think that is when they became more socially aware of many other issues such as their UNICEF anti-violence campaign, the Black Live Matter movement and LGBTQ+ issues.

I think the costume RM is wearing is not just Ryan but also a little lion character. It is shown in an animation "Cardcaptor Cherry"(I translate the name of korean ver.) with the character "Cherry" which is V's costume.

this is a song for the fans i think. they first singing this was on fan meeting concert (i could be wrong my memory's not that great lol) some people say its because the attacked they got from war of hormones, but that was 2014 and this song was from 2016. so of course could be related but i dont think its the main reason. this song's lyric is much simpler than namjoon's normal writing, so i dont think it has too many deep hidden meaning, more like a pure encourage song(like dynamite). you dont put deep things in pep talk cuz you want people to understand immediately. thats how i feel about this song. simple and lovely energy song.

21st century girl is sort of an apology written by RM for their song War of Hormone because he got a lot of backlash for war of hormone by women in particular not only for some of the lyrics but what was in the music video as well so Rm wrote 21st century girl as an apology and I believe when they used to perform war of hormone they would always follow it up with 21st century girl (if I’m wrong please correct me!) I think jimin is wearing something called a bock Choi which is basically a type of korean vegetable that is very widely used. Yoongi is wearing I believe a traditional korean outfit called a Hanbok typically worn during special ocassions like special ceremonies and birthdays by Koreans
