Ruth Richardson was another National Mp,and she became finance minister in Jim Bolgers government in 1993. Mary Batchelor was the MP for Avon, Margaret Shields was the MP for Kapiti, Ann Hercus was the MP for Lyttleton and the Minister for Social Welfare,Police and Women's Affairs in the 4th Labour Government.
Marylin Waring was a national MP, and one of New Zealand's youngest elected MP's at 22. She crossed the floor in 1984 over the nuclear ship visits, which resulted in Piggy Muldoon calling a snap election as he had lost control of the house.
I wish McPhail and Gadsby would come out on DVD. If not by season, then how about a 'best of"? Their "How the first politicians came to New Zealand" was a classic!
Fran Wilde was the MP for Wellington central and is responsible for the Homosexual Law reform Act (1986) which legalised homosexual acts in New Zealand between consenting men, and also the Adoption Reform Act, which made it possible for adopted people and their birth-parents to contact each other. Whetu Tirikatene-Sullivan was the 2nd longest serving MP at the time of her retirement, at 29 years for the Southern Maori electorate.
RIP David McPhail, cheers for the writing and the acting and the laughs
Cheers for this. You really know your MPs. Thanks :)

There is a LOT of old school New Zealand comedy (anyone remember "More Issues" starring Mark Wright?) that would be good in DVD format...
Mary Bachelor had the Avon seat. Never made it into Cabinet. She was known as the Avon Lady.
jon gadsby is my uncle
gturner1029 David Mcphail is my granddad
Prophetic.
We badly need a programme like McPhail and Gadsby. What happened to our political satire?
