Frederique! Your hair really does look fantastic! So much _joie de vivre_ , too! You said to tell about a time you went to a hairdresser and cried. Once when I was going to University for the first time, my aunt who lived in San Francisco, across from my place in Berkeley, decided to give me a present of going to a nice salon in her neighborhood that she loved. So I went there and I really did tell the nice lady what I liked. Well, it turned out that she totally got it wrong and thought I looked like Cher so she gave me a classic Cher haircut. I was mortified. For one thing I was a kind of shy and unassuming type and if anything I tend towards the natural . This was _ultra unnatural!!_ Also I had to go back to her house and face my aunt while pretending to like it ( tears over.) I have to say, some of my very best experiences with hair, did happen in France. In Paris, Nice, Hyères and a little transplanted guy who moved from Malibu to my neighborhood near in le Gard. He's a great combo -- a Hollywood /French hairdresser! ~~ ❤️ bisous!

I'm British and I went to a french hairdresser in the south of France as a one off, but the cut and colour were so amazing that I now fly back there once or twice a year! My budget isn't the type of budget that allows for international travel just for a haircut, but it's so worth it!

@@ms.frederique It's not too bad if you can work out the flights - they can be around £70 for a day return trip London to Nice, so it's enough to spend a few hours in the hair salon, have a nice lunch, look around shops, quick walk on the sea front and then back to the airport. When I get back I feel like I've had a mini-break! It is a bit extravagant but it's worth it for how good I feel compared to depressed and crying when I've been lumbered with a terrible haircut!

I am a hairstylist in the USA. We are taught British haircuts in school and in all the classes/workshops we attend. I have been trained in French hair cutting through Candy Shaw Academy in Georgia. It’s very easy for the guest to style. The whole concept is about softness and cutting in angles that lay beautifully. I love it!

Oh, I cried many times...I went through about 20 hairdressers before I found one that I have been faithful to for the past 10 years. I was very honest with this last hairdresser because I was tired of jumping from one hairdresser to another. He really appreciated my honesty and I have gone back twice to have him adjust my hair after a cut - he also never charged me. He insists that I come back if I'm not happy...and I never looked back! I am very happy with him. They want to keep a client so it's important to be honest. Love you Frédérique!

I just had a new haircut a few weeks ago a shag , but I use no heat to dry it I let it dry naturally and immediately noticed it was getting wavy as it dried , so I started scrunching it with my hands and it got quite wavy after it dried totally ! I was so surprised in a pleasant way ! I had naturally curly wavy hair as a child , an have not seen a wave at all in my hair since I was about eighteen years of age . I guess that no one I ever got a haircut from knew how to cut it properly for me . But this young woman who just cut my hair a few weeks ago did a wonderful thing for me , An now at age sixty five I suddenly have my waves an curls all back ! I cried in a good An happy way . I’m just so happy because I think it’s the prettiest my hair has ever looked since childhood .

I have definitely cried. I went in with a photograph and gave clear instructions about the length; the hairdresser cut it significantly shorter than the photo and my instructions, and when I asked "Why did you do something totally different from what I wanted," she said "I thought it would look better this way." I left in tears; I had a business meeting to attend that evening, and went in feeling very low indeed. I received many compliments on the hairdo, but I did not like it ... and so they did not matter. The one saving grace is that hair grows ... and I never went back to that salon.
I now have a hairdresser I've been with for nearly 20 years. As you say, it takes time to build that relationship.

I've had to cut my own hair since I was about 16. Every so often I try going to a hairdresser but they just can't seem to deal with my naturally wavy thick 'Viking' hair. I come out looking scalped, and one gave me a 'Karen' cut with a ton of product. I don't know why it's so hard. When I was a landscape gardener I never left anyone's hedge looking like that.

I've cut my own hair for 40 years because every time I got a professional haircut, the hairdresser would grimace and say, "Ew, who cut your hair last time?" So I decided that if nobody could do a decent job, I could just as well do a bad job myself for free.

Hair, indeed. I wore my hair very short (pixie) while I was working, due to early morning sport and getting to the office on time. Retired now, decided to grow out shoulder length, which is thick wavy and frizzy. Had no idea what to do with it. By accident, I was in an unexpected situation (hospital stay) where I had no hair products, no hair drier, no hair brush for 5 days. Washed my hair, let it dry naturally and wow I discovered my hair wasn’t frizzy, it was curly. Had already stopped colouring and was grey. Even today, at an appointment the reception staff said ‘wow love your curly grey hair’. Nature gave me this hair, I just had to let it dictate the style rather than trying unsuccessfully to force something else. Hair products of course and regular trims.

    • @edennis3202
      @edennis3202 3 роки тому +1

Yes! I found that my hair loves it best when I don't comb it at all after I wash it, just let it dry and then comb it with a widetooth comb. It looks better, and instead of spending 20 minutes to comb the knots out while it's wet, it takes 10 seconds when it's dry. Not kidding.

Yes, Yes, Yes! I cried one big time as a teen when I asked my mother to take me to this new trending salon in midtown NYC. I had lovely long hair and just wanted an "angle cut" which was popular then where they just cut an angle in the front meeting the back but not cutting the hair short. The hair dresser said she new exactly what I wanted but no. I saw my mothers face through the mirror and then the hair dresser brought my hair to the front. She cut it across. No style. I cried my way home with mom and next day was Easter Sunday and I didn't know how to hide my shorter unstyled hair from my dad who loved my long hair. So yes, it was very disappointing to me and my family especially that I had to take my graduation pictures for high school with that hair. Well it grew back.

I had very dark brown hair when I was younger and my hairdresser was always trying to convince me to put a in a highlight or a streak. One day I was weak and consented. It took about 5 hours to bleach out my hair for the streak she wanted to put in. Afterwards I looked like a skunk. I cried then went back and made her fix it. And she did - no charge. Another straight forward video! Thank you for that. 😘 My crying experience after a haircut happend during the years I lived in India. My hair has natural curls and is thin in itself but otherwise has got lots of volume. At that time at the end of the 90ies, western haircuts where unknown in New Delhi and the hairdressers only knew how to cut straight, strong Indian hair (which I always admire). So here I came, asking to cut my shoulder length hair just a bit shorter but keep the steps. The hairdresser cut. And cut. And cut. At the end, I returned home with a 1 cm long men's haircut. The steps were great...... 🤣 My children first didn't recognize me, and, with a twinkle in his eyes, my husband recommended to let my hair just grow long Indian style.

I have cried. I now take multiple photos to the salon and explain exactly what I DO NOT want before I explain and show my stylist what I DO want. Then it all depends on the skill of the stylist. Cornstarch, especially organic, used sparingly, works better than dry shampoo to absorb oils.

Neva cried but everytime I looked in the mirror felt sick from a bad haircut!
For me hair is the bane of my life and my crowning glory.
I was born with thick curly hair but always wanted it sleek and straight.
To this day am envious of naturally straight haired ladies.
About 8 yrs ago started doing organic hair straighteners every 4 months.
I have a shiny sleek sexy bob but it costs me a fortune.
Would rather go without food lol than have my hair not looking fabulous.
If your hair looks great everything looks great.
Just my opinion but I think everyone looks better with straight hair.

Oh my, I have cried MANY times after a hairdresser visit! the last time was Feb this year, went in for highlights and came out like MARILYN MONROE!! I swear! I was so shocked I nearly fell off the chair! how on earth could a few natural looking highlights turn into a bright white blond all over! I cried, then cried some more, rang a friend who persuaded me to ring the hairdresser back and tell her she needed to fix it...it got toned down but I basically had to live with THAT hair all through lock down and only got it sorted last week!! I can tell you this time I was painfully clear about what I wanted, had photos, styles, and IT TURNED OUT PERFECT! I gave that hairdresser a second chance where once I just wouldn't have went back ever again. (also back in the early 90s once asked for a concave bob only to have the back of my head shaved !!! ARGGGGH cue more tears - it took 6 MONTHS to grow out!!! and usually I come home from hairdresser and style it myself all over again because I do a better job..... Frederieque, look at what you started with this video! LOL ! but we have to laugh these things off right? :-)

Ohhhhh my goodness thank you for the spiel on hairdressers! I am one myself in the south in the USA (known for manners and politeness, haha!), and it blows my mind how people are afraid to ask for an adjustment if there’s something they don’t like, especially when it’s usually a simple tweak or fix if you’ve done a thorough consultation in the first place. Ladies, you hairdresser wants to please you, be honest with them! 😊

In my experience, most get annoyed and snappy. It seems like the frustration of the job, dealing with the clients, weighs on them... so they lose patience. It's hard to find hair a hairdresser that's not like this. Also want good tips, regardless of mediocre service/ job.

I am a new subscriber and love your information and personality. ❤️. When I went through menopause my hair became very curly. I have a whole process to make the curls look defined but natural. It takes a long time to look natural and effortless. 🤣 I also don’t wash more than twice a week..and use hair masks and hair oils because my hair can become quite brittle. A simple ponytail is my go to as it always looks neat and sophisticated. I also add a small silk scarf to my ponytail so that it looks “finished”.

Hi Frederique I am watching again this video. Now I am my own hairdresser with the hardware scissors ever since my last comment I didn't want to go to the hairdresser so I just chopped my hair in few seconds amazingly it turn out perfect with only few hanging hairs that I fixed later. Now I will be cutting my hair all by myself until all the grey grows. I must say I look 100 years old with the grey hair but it's a lot healthier.

Great advise love the video. Back in the 80's I had a haircut very short on one side the other side long came home thought I looked tops but dad send to me I think the hairdresser didnt finish the job he laught and send you looked better before and he was right because with in weeks went back and cut the longer side to match the shorter side. I can laugh now about that time but learnt after that to really explain and show pics of what I like and easy to maintain for my lifestyle. Come in from Beautiful Macedon Ranges Victoria Australia.🙌💖🦋

Good evening Frederique! We can tell you feel very good today.😁 Me too! I always wanted thick and curly long hair. People who has that and are straightening them every day makes me crazy!😬 But as you say, people always want what they don't have and don't appreciate what they do have-it's just a human nature. I didn't experimented much with my hair to be honest, I regret a few permanents in my youth (because of strong chemicals they used back then), but I liked my short hair when I was a teenager. Very first time I colored my hair I was 33 and I colored in red...My hairdresser was shocked about my choice, but when I said I am going thru divorce, she didn't question my choice anymore. After that I stopped any coloring, I don't have any grey hair to cover and I have very healthy, shiny hair, so what is the point?
I never left my hairdresser crying or unhappy, it's always opposite actually, I guess I am the best client-always happy and satisfied. 😌 My sister on another hand had much more problems with her hairdressers. Once I went with her to the hairdresser, my sister has a blond hair, but she wanted to have a highlights. The hairdresser put too much chemicals on her hair and it became very curly like a permanent (she has a very straight hair). I was shocked, never saw that before, then she was trying to fix it with a lot of balsams and oils, but it didn't really helped after a few days she started to lose a lot of hair. My daughter on another hand has a lot and thick hair very long one untill her waist and she is going to cut half and go platinum blond in a few days, will see about the results...🤔🙄

Stylist hard to find that understand my hair. When I do, they are great and last 10 to 14 years usually.
I like you limit washing, use oils and leave in products, avoid heavy setting creams or spray.
I've had a couple bad situation but each I stand up for myself or in one case told them to stop. It took two stylists to fix that one after.
Remember what works and advise stylist to not do techniques that don't, like texturing or excessive heat.
If I trim my own, like during lockdowns, I always tell stylist so they evaluate before cutting.
    Thank you for the tips.

Hello again. Yes, I totally agree with you about male stylists. Also, I had a terrible highlighting experience. I had already knew I did not like it but when I got home my husband greeted me at the door. I asked the loaded question... "how do you like it?" My husband responded very bluntly (he is German heritage), "I DON'T like it." I asked him again. He responded the same. I cried. Ran to the store to buy a box of color. I have not dyed my hair since this episode - that was 14+ years ago. I guess I have virgin hair now. lol.

Oh, yes! I can sympathize with crying after a haircut! It was part of my life as a curly-girl until I finally found the right person. She and I were a team for over 25 years until she moved to another part of the country. I miss her terribly, and haven't yet found the right person. However, I embrace my curly hair and have learned how to take care of it. No more crying!

I have a new hairdresser now - she is French from Paris and trained in Curly Girl Method - dry haircut then wash and diffuse dry and some further curl by curl final trim - takes 1.5 hours - my hair is fabulous and you only need to go back every 4-5 months

      @SueRosalie 2 роки тому

@@tanyaeve9498 it used to be standard part of training but isn't any more so you have to seek out people who are trained to cut curly hair dry and curl by curl - each curl clump is cut blunt on the ends, there is never any thinning or slicing or razoring which is damaging to curly hair

Oh no no definitely not me , I go to an expensive hairdressers, have hair coloured blonde and since lockdown have let it grow but usually just resting on my shoulders. I spend lot of money on high quality products because I did use cheap products and it’s like throwing you money away, by the way I forgot to mention I am in my seventies. XXX

I have asked: "Will this color look on my hair this way?" - It did not! And she cut so much off! Dear Lord! (My hair goes under my derrière - that half was off!!!) If you have medium brown hair and can’t find dry shampoo that isn’t light-colored, you can use cacao, which is unprocessed chocolate powder. Cocoa is processed and may have chemicals added. So use cacao, it soaks up oils and smells great! I just tap it on my roots with a cotton round and brush it in.

I have long, blonde, wavey hair. I go to my hairdresser twice a year for highlights. I use good quality products. Nothing from the supermarket. I wash once or twice a week, depending on how much I perspire. I only use a curling creme. Dryer is only for special occasions. And I dry upside down 😂 My partner LOVES my hair. I'm pretty blessed even though it's thinned out heaps since menopause. Ladies. Make the most of what you have!❤️ Thankyou Frederique 💗 I have French blood, so I hear you! Loud and clear 😂💖

Yes, I have cried after hairdressers insistent did it her way. Never went back there. Since then, I've given specific Not to do's - some hairdressers criticize me for being picky but I don't care because they obviously don't care about making me happy with what they do to my hair.
Unfortunately in USA, you still have to pay $ even though you hate what the hairdresser did.
