    I need to know how to reset the combination. Mine is a 1962 one dial bank. Wish I could post a picture. Got it open by luck and need to change the combination before ever shutting it again.

    How to you attach the door part when you already assembled the box part? Any tips on screwing it in or do you use another way

      I made the box so the that the door frame is flush with the wood. At around the 2:30 mark of the video I'm gluing in a shim to fill the gap I caused by doing that, then I used small wood screws.

      Thanks, to be honest there was a moment when I was not sure if it would turn out and thought about scraping it.

    Came out great! Do you know what the measurements were? For the box/sides?

    • @AlekStang
      @AlekStang 10 років тому

      Ruperts Woodworks Hey thanks, I appreciate that. The measurements are roughly 14cm x 10.5cm x 10.5cm. Mainly built the box around the door.

      Ruperts Woodworks Hey thats awesome. If I was to make one of these again I would probably use 3/8 or 1/2 inch board and box joint the corners.

      I cut some. ..3/4 in boards, I'll spine the edges

    Any ideas on how to open one that I lost the combination to. It looks just like yours. It still has some money in it, but I hate to break it (if that's possible) to get it open.

      Mine is in storage at the moment so I can't test this out; however, these are not very complex. Try putting a bit of tension on the lower knob while rotating the dial. You'll feel the wheels contact each other but u may also feel movement in the lower knob. When that lower knob gives a bit it's called a false set, record the letter and look for another. There are three letters starting clockwise then counterclockwise and again clockwise. With a little bit of time you should be able to figure out the combo. Good luck.

      good job most people well put the door upside down

      turning the door upside down while turning the number dial AND the door release sometimes opens it up......if you can get into the back of the bank with a screwdriver you can maneuver the release tab manually...that also opens it even if the combo is wrong......

    I have one similar to this that I found and repainted. I am wondering if you could post a video of how to fix the lock. It has been taken apart by my stepdad who had no idea how it works, and so not I need to put the lock back together.

    I brought 6 P.O. doors back from Maui and they are all in very poor condition. Any tips on cleaning ?

      @AlekStang 8 років тому +1

      I used alcohol to clean mine, but it wasn't in bad condition. if it's painted try paint stripper, the spray kind at automotive stores works well. if it's corroded try brasso and a scotch brute pad. good luck.
