I'm not generally the kind of person who hates on games journalism by default, but I was seeing a lot of reviews that claimed the realism mechanics were clunky or tedious. I finally get the game for myself on PC, and it's hardly clunky, especially in comparison to any other open world game. Even the skinning animations aren't as bad as people were telling me.

I really appreciate the semi automatic weapons and bolt action rifles in the game, it really shows that the wild west is dying. Revolvers were replaced by pistols, and lever actions were replaced by bolt actions.
Revolvers were never replaced thankfully! Actually, we still make new models to this day! Hell some countries still issue them to commanders due to the accuracy, reliability, and power of a 6 chambered wheel gun! It really shows effective when you can only carry that one gun and need it to work! You need your radio equipment and binoculars etc, revolver is a single lightweight gun that will work if you need it to! Rifle men can use semiautomatic pistols because they got 2 guns - IE one to fall back on.

Somehow i like the late 19th century and early 20th century weapons more then the modern ones for some reason. They look stylish and have something unique in most of them. Most modern weapons are just steel and plastic, and mostly look the same.

I really wish that there was an option to have realistic reload times (or at least slower ones). I know that not every player would be sold on the tedium, but a lot of RDR2's realism elements come from basic actions taking a tedious amount of time to perform. Evans Rife: In the middle of the Chapter 3 (not sure after which mission) purchase from Valentine, Rhodes, San Denis,Annesberg.(also don’t know if we can find it in the world) 3.1899pistol: After u arrive San Denis with Dutch (Chapter 4), u can buy it from that Chinese gunsmith. 4.high roller revolver: purchase from fence, but I don’t know when can we unlock it.

It's very true. It is a weird mechanic but it also came out when alot Firearms were being experimented on. Most lever actions were taken out by the Winchester. Then it was the bolt actions time to shine.
Yes it would do that. It has a helical tube magazine which is why it's capacity was huge. The down side was once you loaded it up, you had to shoot or eject every cartridge or what you'd end up with is either ejecting live rounds while trying to reload it or you would have empty gaps between rounds. So say you took an empty Evans and loaded 3 rounds into it, ran the lever 4 times and loaded 3 more and then ran the lever until you got to your first live round, you'd lever a round 3 times and then lever no round 4 times and then lever the 3 other rounds to empty the gun. It was a downside but being able to have 26 or 27 rounds of a decently powerful cartridge was a huge upside to the gun. And in reality if you loaded it once to capacity, you wouldn't use up all the ammo in it for a week. In the normal world where you might shoot 1 or 2 animals a day and aren't getting Into gun fights every 5 minutes, that much ammo would last a while. For a good in depth description on the Evans, look up the Evans Repeater video from the UA-cam channel Forgotten Weapons.

These animations are the exact same in both 1st person and 3rd person right? By this I mean: are they're actually physical movements, not like in pure FPS games where the animation is confined to just your screen.
Wish a Colt Navy was in this game. The Lemat revolver is cool an all but the Navy just looks a little more iconic, at least to me. Also I would like to see a Mares Leg too, it may not have been an actual gun used in the west but I just really like that weapon.

The PC is ramped up, just enjoy the game now and wait for the day the first weapon mod comes out. Modders don't have it quite figured out yet and that's completely fine.

The reload animations in hunt are glorious (war of rights are even better but the weapons are limited to civil war). However, there are issues such as the character not using the ejector when reloading revolvers (the cases simply fall off).

If you want to unlock them early on PC, just get a save editor mod, where you can edit which weapons you're allowed to buy. Doing this also means that NPCs will use some of the weapons. It's more fun early game when NPCs use other weapons than just the basic repeater and cattleman.

Does anyone know if there's a way to spawn specific weapons using the console or any other means? I dueled Flaco Hernandez and picked up his special gun and my game crashed. Since it autosaved right after killing him, it didn't save me obtaining the weapon, and now it's gone.
Did the revolvers use case less ammo. Plus the bolt action rifle is actually a Norwegian design used by the US army. Though the reload is compleatly wrong.
The Krag Jorgensen is actually loaded by placing the cartridges individually in a hatch next to the bolt and not directly over it like most bolt rifles

Plus the bolt action rifle is actually a Norwegian design used by the US army. Though the reload is compleatly wrong.
The Krag Jorgensen is actually loaded by placing the cartridges individually in a hatch next to the bolt and not directly over it like most bolt rifles
