Great development. I love that you showed the tape idea, also. It also shows how little effort Makita put into the issue. I hope Makita sees this video.

Soon to be included in all Makita router kits a new and improved dust collection system. Aka small roll of packing tape and the same old POS dust collector.

I had the "funnel" version of your design printed up and it worked beautifully - even with a template bushing. The Makita template plate has four holes, and the sawdust was sucked up through them. I did have to sand about 3 mm off the bottom of the funnel when using it with the template guide. Many thanks for sharing your fine work.

I don't have a 3D printer so I downloaded your file and sent it to makexyz to print. That was my first time trying a 3D printing service. I got it yesterday and it fits great and works great. Thanks!

Yes...Packing tape...my always working solution for dust extraction problem. Especially when i need to connect different size hoses and adapters / strangely shaped machine connectors to each other. ;)

Is it possible to order one of those funnel peaces printed like the green. Or maybe a few? For a nice price?

Hey thank you very much for the great ideas. I actually used your file and printed the cover and dust port adapter. The cover seems to be loose. How did you fasten the cover into the base so it didn’t move when you used it?

If you're printing something like this and you've finished prototyping then there's no reason why you cant print 4 or 6 at a time so even if it does break you have plenty of spares lying around :-D

Coming from a heavy Makita user for over 30 years now.
That is the problem with all those overpaid engineers, they have no clue how something that they are designing works in real life.
Just all CAD and Simulation software.
But I find this one very bizarre that a company like Makita (and others) can't make (design) something as simple as this to work for what it originally is made fore.
Don't they test their design pieces???
I still have a working 6010 cordless drill that was from my uncle, he gave me this one in 1990, the thing was then 8 years old and heavily used.
For the last 10-15 years, Makita's quality is going down.

its fine at the beginning but yeah, for the 3d printing part, voice is playing on both left and right channels and printer only on right, and after that, everything is only playing on right channel

You could even rig the plastic lid from a can of snack crisps like Pringles, if it's wide enough.

Most manufactuers are very laxed when it comes to duct collection. They could sell lots more products if they put some real thought and effort in to the problem. Dust is, we know, the biggest problem in woodworking. If Cosmas can do this, then they can do it very cheaply also. They all say their products are the latest and greatest ,,but this item would really make it so.

I don't understand the dust collection hoopla. Sawdust everywhere? Awesome. I'll get around to cleaning it sometime in the next 8 weeks.. Angle grinder on steel? Now that makes a mess. Track steel dust around, and you stain things.
edit: well, other than MDF or power sanders. That dust is awful.
