The intersection you got to at 22:08 is where a busy nightlife scene takes place including the roads leading off of it in all directions. It's a very vibrant and interesting scene with both lots of Vietnamese locals and tourists drinking at the dozens of street bars. Also there are several discos in the area.
Also I don’t know if you’ve used this service yet but Grab is like the Uber of Vietnam and you can get very cheap rides throughout the city either in motorbike or by car.
Hanoi is probably my favorite city I've ever visited. It's alive and real . It's far more traditional than Ho Chi Minh City and far prettier too. So much of the city is really attractive and interesting and even spooky but I felt rather safe exploring. Plus, the people are so welcoming. I ate worm meatloaf near the old city gate. Gabriel, I was so afraid you would skip Hanoi. Try their coffee. I'm not a giant coffee fan but I loved it there. I think I could live there some day. Have fun !
Vietnam is the food heaven. Even Anthony Bourdain fell in love with Vietnamese foods. All Chefs around the world like Gordon Ramsay come to Vietnam to try Vietnamese foods as well as learn to cook some of their dishes. Did you try Vietnamese's Egg coffee, coconut coffee, back and white coffee, or ice coffee yet?
We absolutely loved the food in Vietnam!! We don't care much about chefs, celebrities or whatever reviews. Just go out there and getting lost finding some amazing home food restaurants...so delicious!
At 23:20 you were walking back in the direction of the Lake. You'd made a fairly big circle. My hotel was on Pho Hang Bac Street and you passed it about the time you wondered aloud if you were getting turned around.
I have visited 4 major cities during my recent visit to Vietnam, starting from Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang and finally Ho Chi Minh. I definitely like Hanoi far more than Ho Chi Minh (or Saigon). Weather was more pleasant in Hanoi.
You don't be bored in Vietnam...so much different in each region in term of landscape, climate, people, dialects, culture, beliefs. Should you visit Saigon, its vibe is in much larger scale. Thanks for sharing your authentic video. Great work!
@Tuan Thai well, there are many places with dirt and trash, but that can change! and also there are very nice and clean places. with a little bit of effort we thing the government and the people can educate new generations to care more about the environment. If people like you make other people aware of the problem, it will start changing soon!
@Tuan Thai I got what you mean as lot of things need to be changed. However, I look at things in different perspectives and try not to compare. Quite the clumsy ballet of traffic. I'm surprised there aren't more incidents...what a traffic cluster****. But it's good to know people are the same everywhere. Everybody has their face in their phone! Another great video Gabriel. Hanoi has that kind of authentic, gritty feel unlike Tokyo. Keep 'em coming man.

another fantastic video! these videos make me feel super nostalgic because my trip to vietnam ended right before yours began. what a great country. also, i think you would have a great time in china. it is a bit more challenging in certain ways than vietnam (we went from china to vietnam overland), particularly the language barrier and maps apps/internet not working properly.......but it is seriously an adventure. some incredible things to see there as well. we only were in the south, though.
I was in Hanoi 6 weeks after you and the heat and humidity were brutal. The city is fascinating and I was with a group of French folks. We later visited many of the former French Indo-China War battlefields. I missed Dien Bien Phu and plan to return to see it.
Hey Gabriel we saw you in Hue having a drink by the river! Cool videos my kids like the channel. We were just living in Hanoi enjoyed watching those streets again.
You were totally inside the old quarter, the French quarter is next to the old quarter and next to the Hoan Kiem lake. When you see the Opera house, legend metropole hotel or some nice villas, you will definitely be sure that you are inside the French quarter. The vibes there is more chill, and relax than the old quarter, maybe because there arent many bussinesses and shops in the French quarter
We don’t call it the French quarter. Why do you insist on following them to give the area this wrong name? Stop trying to be a western ass kisser. There’s no such thing called French quarter in Hanoi or China beach in Danang. Foreigners need to be corrected not the other way around.
What a vibrant place! I’m always scoping out places online for where I might teach English in a few years and live fairly cheaply. Hanoi looks like a good contender. I’ll have to research more. Certainly it looks like an incredible city to visit! 👍🏼✌🏼

We were lucky to bump into these ladies selling sticky rice from their baskets early in the morning in the old quarter of Hanoi and it was the best!!! I love Hanoi. Pho Hang Thiec, is where my grandfather had his hardware business and where my uncles still own the house.
