I still got my 400 / 4 speed / hood tach/ rally gages / Convertible I bought in 1976 with 31,000 miles for $900.00 ( alot of money back then) I was working at McDonnel Aircraft as a machinist for a whopping $3.25 a hour (good money back then) My 68 / 400 Firebird convert has been restored 2 times now, but I keep all the original power train for it as I got a beast of a 4 bolt main steel crank monster in it now as the can run's 10s in the 1/4 mile today. But I can pull all that out and put it right back to a all numbers matching car any time I want. My factory red & white car is the same color now as when I bought it and has been documented by PHS as a real matador red with white interior with white convertible top 400 / 4 speed car from the factory. I am retired now, and everybody in my family wants me to sell it! NEVER going to happen as long as I am breathing. I mean come on, they don't make NOTHING like it anymore so why sell the best !. And yes, I got a big shoe box FULL of speeding tickets all over 100mph in that arrest me red & white cop magnet so yeah, I really can relate! lol .
Nothing like an original classic Pontiac. Mine turns heads of all ages. I’ve heard so many stories from complete strangers of memories from their youth. But I’m somewhat of a purist, my grandfather was part owner of a Pontiac dealership so it’s all any of us drove. Great find!!
I remember a kid who worked at a local grocery store had one parked in the corner of the lot back in the 80s. It was red, white vinyl top, four speed with a tach on the transmission tunnel and had cragar s/s wheels and also was the sprint OHC 6. Was a rare car even then.
Just stumbled upon this Cammer Story. I bought my 1st OHC 6 Pontiac with Sprint option a few years before this one was parked, 1983. The car is great and worth saving but the memories you have with it are priceless. I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your friend and hope to see this once great bird spread its wings again. Please restore her! P.S. Jay Leno just bought a '68 FB with OHC 6 from one of our members. Best of luck and look forward to more Vid's.
Truly a great car. I had one a little more fancy a true sprint model. 255ci Over head Cam 4barrel. It rated 230hp From factory really good top end power. Candy apple red, a really good runner a real head turner.

It’s not wether it has a belt or chain that valves hitting becomes a problem, it’s wether it’s an interference type valve train or not. Belts have there place.
I hope whoever restores this car appreciates the memories of the guys who drove it across the country. Maybe just not stab an ls in this one. There’s already a boatload of hot V-8 firebirds. This car was cool as hell the way it was built. You’ll not improve on it.
I just bought my 67 Firebird 400. Still needs a lot of work but I Love the respect these old classics get.
This one was a lot of fun to dig out and get the story

Nice, this one is being restored. Not by us, we do mostly Euro. But it will on the road again!
These cars and memories are part of who, and what we are.

Please keep a Pontiac motor in that car.
The overhead 6 is the best and most interesting part of the car!
@@VintageUnderground If you say so lol. So like is there qa follow up video with what is going on with it?
@midnitesquirldog1 J0ohn delorean pushed for this engine with the cam belt and sporty look

Pretty sure it was his idea.
Not his pushing. It was a great idea

Hey Bryan. This one ended up going up North in Portland. I think its being built now.
Please don’t LS this thing!! Please keep the OHC 6
Oh yea
I thought it was to be about the car not you
Sorry to disappoint. Thought it was a pretty good story.
It’s the owner of the cars story. Not the channels, genius.
It told us all we need to know.
Not sure how much more you could have asked for.
