This album came out during Operation Desert Shield so I always associate this song with that. This song is obviously based on the Gadsden Flag (designed during the American Revolution) which is also where the snake on the album cover comes from.

The album was released August 12th, 1991. No I didn't look it up. I remember, because my buddies and I waited in line for 3 hrs to buy this CD at 12 am on the day of its release.

Best song for this day IMO would have been Iced Earth's _Declaration Day_ , in particular the version that starts with their rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. Oh well, good to remember for next year...
Metallica's Black Album is great. Sure, it's not the pure thrash they used to be, but it still has lots of terrific songs. Same goes for the albums that came after it.
If you want "bad" songs, then either try anything from St Anger (especially the longer songs) or from Lulu, the collaboration album they did with Lou Reed. If Kel can stomach that, she can stomach anything.

If you want a Metallica song to react to, try a cover song they did called ‘Whiskey in a Jar’ it was originally done by Thin Lizzy in 1972. One of Thin Lizzy’s past band members was Gary Moore of Parisian Walkway fame. I personally think the Metallica version is better because I like my songs more metal. I think the album version with the video is probably the best version to react to.
She knows WIAJar and all Metallica songs to me are a rewind reaction. Do you have others? The deep tracks are unfamiliar to her on the lesser known albums. I'm thinking Sabra Cadabra next....

This is not something you can react to but it is something you will like. On the Iron Maiden channel there is a 3 part documentary series called the history of Iron Maiden. It interviews all the band members, it is one of the best band documentaries I have seen. Keep up the reactions, the best ones are UFO Doctor Doctor and Moody Blues Knights in White Satin. The look on Kel face is priceless.

I'd love to see a reaction done much like you did "Whiter Shade of Pale:. This time doing the original "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles (George Harrison) and then following up with the tribute given to him as performed by Tom Petty/Prince/Steve Winwood and Georges son. It holds a place for me as so many of the artists have now passed.

Fixxxer, The Unforgiven II and Where The Wild Things Are are pure masterpieces off of ReLoad , if you really want a bad Metallica song: Purify, Cure and Poor Twisted Me (although Cure is however kinda okay comparing to those 2 mentioned)

Metallica has a few bad songs between both of the Load albums (majority is good though), a couple of mediocre tracks on Hardwired, and one terrible album (St. Anger...but considering what they were going through at the time, understandable). Other than that their material is pure Gold! That's actually a really good track record, considering how many decades and eras they've been around. Most bands aren't nearly as consistent.

They dont play it because its polarizing to their fans. Early Metallica was antiwar and Dont Tread on Me is considered by snowflakes as a declaration of war. However, in reality its a masculine statement of live and let live. but if you harass my way of life prepare for the consequences. So the moral of the story is tolerance which is wearing thin nowadays unfortunately.

I agree on Sweet Amber, but the rest of the album not so much. I agree everyone's taste is different. The drums had a really odd sound on that album in comparison to their other albums. I don't know what they did, but it sounded different. It certainly seemed noticeable on the first song Frantic even though I liked that song.

It was the beginning of Metallica selling out to commercialism.
Chuck BRADLEY ..what does ‘selling out’ mean to you? To me, it’s about compromising their terms as musicians and people to appease someone or some other reason that goes against ‘their stripes’. I believe each of them knew they had to stay creative and keep moving forward rather than doing the same stuff they’ve already mastered and gotten bored with. If they can pull that off AND make squillions of dollars at the same time, I say fuck yes.
And squillions they made.
They continue to attract new fans and lead technologies/initiatives for the music industries.

But when you change everything you've been doing just because your new producer says it'll get you more air play... I say that is selling out to commercialism just to make the buck. Notice that after they made all the money their starting to slowly comeback to their original style. They could've stayed thrash and still made millions.
