  • My Grandfather, George Washington Dalton, was a friend of Sgt. Alvin York. They grew up less than twenty miles apart, and I am told, occasionally "socialized" together before Alvin's being saved. We have a photo, that I have included here, of Alvin at my Aunt Marie's wedding to John Milz. My wife Rickie's dad also knew Sgt. York. In August of 1957, he drove the Pontiac Star Chief car from Fort Bragg, NC, to Jamestown, Tennessee. This car was presented to Sgt. York by the 82nd Airborn Division. Rickie, myself and Rick visited the National Park to present them with a poster we had made of the newspaper clippings her dad had saved. At that time, in July of 2017, we talked to them about restoring the car, but there were no plans to do so. We were happy to see by October, Mike Wood of the Fentress County Historical Society got it cleaned up in time for the York Institute Homecoming . Jamestown is the county seat for Fentress County.

So nice to see the old girl spick and span in the memory of its former owner. It certainly has attracted attention more so now it's on display. Great job keeping the honorable memory alive.

My first car was a Pontiac Chieftain. Not quite as fancy of a model. But mostly identical. Brought back a lot of memories. Hope Sgt. York's car is restored. His legacy deserves it. Thanx!!

What is the deal with the "Open Description/Close Description" which doesn't do anything as far as opening the description so you can read all of it?

I look under the Description box and it has "Show More" at the bottom to expand the box to allow me to see all of the description. I can't find the "Open Description/Close Description" to see what it is. Am I not looking in the right place?

@@ricktwin1 - Right under the Channel/Person's name, there is a short description of the video that is truncated. Under that, it says "Open Description". I think they used to say "More". Anyway, the Open description does not open it to see more description.
