My skill levels are way below this but I discovered early on your channel. One year ago I quickly looked for subtitles but the only two possibilities given to me were Greek and Chinese. Four months ago I looked for the subtitles but the suggestion was sightreading. Since then I have been sightreading Bach 2 voice chorales every day. My teacher wants me to practice them and at the end play the 3 and 4 voice chorales anyway. The two voice chorales are becoming slightly easier, the 3 and 4 voice are laughingly manageable, and Bob's your uncle. Today I followed the lecture fairly well. I didn't even look at the subtitles. The chords aren't jumping off the staves yet, stumbling would be a better description. But I really have to thank you for being an excellent maestro.
I really like your teaching, with very in depth knowledge. 10 minutes before you hit the piano is a bit long to wait however. Would be nice with more audible examples.
Hi, brilliant video! I learned a great deal from this thank you. Just out of curiosity, what software do you use to display what you play on the piano/keyboard??
please do some videos on counting rhythms. I know that the top number in a time signature tells how many beats in a measure. I also know that if the bottom number is a four, then the quarter note gets the beat, if the bottom number is an 8, then the eighth note gets the beat, C means common time, C with a slash through it means cut time. However, i need help with how to count rhythms, and recognizing odd time signatures and count them. please upload videos on this.
This is the ideal course for you on our website. It covers exactly what you’re asking about plus much more. www.mmcourses.co.uk/p/aural-dictation-course
Thanks for all the lessons…how nice if u could use some colour pen n if your white board can place nearer to the camera as it is rather too tiny to watch
I think you’ll find it’s very clear on a bigger screen. Much more at www.mmcourses.co.uk including details of our online courses and of our exciting Maestros programme
Wouldn’t it just be easier to write this in 3/4. I get that 3/2 can be useful with faster moving rhythm but this is quite chorale like. I know it’s not the point of the video but I often wonder this with pieces of music, using 3/2 instead of 3/4 for example. Just asking.
Hi. Can't chord vii be substituted for chord V7? Because V7 contains the vii chord, just with V as the root. Could you also do a video about this this topic in a minor melody? Thanks.
+MrHossen1223 Hi. It's true that Vll is the same as V7if you remove the root from V7, which is why Vll is sometimes a good substitute for V. However the root of V7 makes it a much stronger chord. Also Vll is much more useful in first inversion as root position Diminished chords tend to be weak with the emphasis on the Diminished 5th interval within the chord.
Oh ok, so looking from figured bass 6 with a note on eb means that Eb is essentially the root? But doesn’t first inversion mean that eb will go to the 6 not the third? sorry im a little confused
In the C minor chord (CEbG) C is always the root, Eb is always the 3rd and G is always the 5th. When in first inversion that is defined by placing the 3rd at the bottom of the chord. When in second inversion that is defined by placing the 5th at the bottom of the chord.
Can you make more videos of simple and compound time in level 6? That’s my weakness. Oh, and by the way, I’m a new viewer and I already love your videos! Thanks!!!

Just out of curiosity, what software do you use to display what you play on the piano/keyboard??
Thanks for your comment, glad it was useful. The keyboard software is called 'Midikeys' by Manyetas.
Thank you very much, great lesson

Do you have free video or sell video specifically about figured bass?
Yes. If you search the channel you’ll find figured bass.

Very fair question. It’s up to the composer to decide which way to notate it.

Great
Why is Eb the third of the triad?
Eb would be the third of a C minor triad for example CEbG.

Hi Gareth, after taking grade 5 theory, do you have to do grade 6, then 7 and then 8? or can you just do grade 8 theory after you have done grade 5?
+Victor Jones not at all, fine to skip grades.. Enjoy.
You are perfect, FANTASTIC.
