I've been smiling out loud through all of this, WHAT A WOMAN!
She was loyal, brave and True to her spouse, she followed him to literally the other side of the world.
    He turned nasty.
Of Course, for Napoleon it was a planned campaign to get shut of the husband.
    However.
She was also discreet and moral by not dishing the dirt then she burnt the letters.
Thanks SO MUCH for this BC.
Your information, narration and work is excellent.
Best wishes to you, all you love and followers Worldwide.

      "He turned nasty" XD
You being serious 75% of the French army was flirting with her including the emperor, of course he was jealous, "short tempered" lol.
"He clearly overreacted" the moment he left she instantly cheated on him, faithful my ass.

Napoleon's loss. Sounds like he met his match but in truth he only ever loved Josephine. He dumped his first fiance for her too. Desiree whe eventually married one of his generals becoming queen of Sweden and starting a new royal dynasty.

    • @michelmoutinho

Napoleon never dumped Desiree. They have ended their courtship after she stopped writing him or failing to demonstrate interest.

Great and interesting story about the mistress of Napoleon. She was quite a fascinating woman to say the least, I wonder how different her life would have been if she had married Napoleon, especially since they were reportedly in love with each other.

Good to see a history that is in the end, good lived. She had her problems with Napoleon, but problems with affairs, who doesn't. And she died really old as well. What a nice life! And she lived here in Brazil a bit as well, really interessing!

Thank you so much for making a vídeo about Pauline! You did great! She was a remarkable Lady way ahead of her time. The very first picture on your vídeo is her self-portrait, she painted it. It is curious that she was completely forgotten by History when she was probably the most accomplished mistress of Napoleon. Also when Napoleon was exiled although he did not mention her, it is said that he used to say that the happiest time in his life was the time he spent in Egypt.

Such an interesting woman! I have a video suggestion. Mary MacLane. She was a scandalous writer who was open about her sexuality and pioneered the candid, confession style memoir. I have read "I, Mary MacLane" and she is a fascinating woman. She was enamored with Napoleon and was very controversial at the time. She's been left behind in history to some extent but her story has always been so fascinating! I worked in Butte, Montana and I loved reading her description and her wildness that really makes her endearing. She earned her title of "Wild Woman of Butte!" If you are interested, I'd love to help!

Sad that she burnt Napolean’s letters, but I guess that’s what happened then. Never knew Napoleon had a mistress. Here in the West we were only ever taught that Napoleon was completely devoted to Josephine w/o reservation.
One Q I would have is, do you think it is possible that in the months when Pauline couldn't get back to Napoleon that, perhaps he thought Pauline was no longer interested in him? Could that have precipitated his desire to reconnect and reconcile with Josephine?

I don't condone all the infidelity that is common place in European history. It is interesting to note though that the French are more discreet than the English. Just learned about "Dirty Bertie" and how he ruined several womens' lives and had many showing out at his coronation and after his death. He was a homewrecker and now the descendants of one of his horrid lovers is the queen consort today. Honestly for such sticklers the British can be incredibly undignified.
Even though what they did was wrong, I can appreciate at the very least that she was able to remarry and live how she wanted, that her whole life wasn't ruined like it was for many of the English King's lovers. Kind of glad she wasn't allowed in Paris and she stayed away. Crazy how they still maintained decorum after all the drama in Egypt.

Egypt turned into a disaster for the French and Napoleon just bugged out at the end leaving his men behind. For some reason Nappy is still a big hero to some but look at his terrible failures; Spain, Haiti, Russia. In the end he left France with a generation of men dead and the country bankrupt. His vanity and stupidity got him moved from the island paradise of Elba, after he broke his word in his first surrender. His 100 days of escape ran out at Waterloo and he was taken to a cold distant rock called Saint Helena. He never saw his second wife or child again.
