    Thank you thank you thank you. 🌺 Because of this video I know why my garage furnace was not working. I cleaned the thermostat and it’s now working. Your video saved me hundreds of dollars to bring a mechanic to inspect and repair 🙏

    If all it takes are a temperature sensitive coils, why was mercury used?

    I have a Thermostat like the last one you showed. It is identical on the outside, but the inside looks a bit different its a General Control T 70. It doesn't have that little metal disk/circle you point out. This one is still working, hit or miss though. I'm not sure how it works as it doesn't have mercury in it either. I can send you a picture if you are interested in seeing it and able to tell me how it works.

      This entire video and the guy never even mentions "Mercury". Mercury is the liquid metal that are inside these old clackers. .. 🤷‍♂️

    So at 5:30, you say we can just short the wires together. Which makes sense, as the mercury switch just makes or breaks the circuit. But why does every single website keep insisting we must shut off power to the furnace before working on these 24v two-wire thermostats? The dead short isn't going to hurt the zone valve.

      you turn off the power when there is electricity involves but with the standard gas gravity type furnace there are no fans so no electricity

    Dad has a GE thermostat from the 1960's. Is it possible to adjust it? The heat always has run 5 degrees colder than whatever it's set for. Also, what does turning the screw on the inside do? Any advice appreciated!

      sounds like the thermostat has a problem. it should turn off when it reaches the set point.

    If I have one that has no off how do I turn off the heat if I turn it up all they way and back again it clicks. I think this sets my default heat ? When I turn it to the lowest level my baseboard buzzes. Help!!

    • @worldofwaterheaters9535
      @worldofwaterheaters9535 2 роки тому

      what do you mean by your ‘baseboard’? You probably need to replace your thermostat

    • @nexx1
      @nexx1 2 роки тому

      @@worldofwaterheaters9535 it’s a pipe that has hot water in it. It vibrates and hums. You can hear it in the wall too. If I turn on the heat I can hear the water flow through and it stops. Then I turn it off it starts again after like 30 mins.

      More than likely your air/heat unit isn't tied in with your main breaker box to your house. There should be a box close to you power meter that has a few breakers and a main power switch. Ours is like that.

    I have a Honeywell bottom of the barrel thermostat that contains Mercury when it's on the off position it's pointing to r and w was on the opposite side but I have a yellow+ red and white and yellow and red wire. So red to *R*, yellow goes to *Y* nothing goes to *W* is this one my furnace is not kicking on? 0

      if there is no fan, then you only need 2 wires. sounds like you are connected to cooling system as well
