🤙🏽 Beau. I’m completely new to SUP surf, been learning more about it on UA-cam…I’ve tried inflatable SUP on flat water and calm ocean. I had done a few wave surfing🏄♀️ camps, love the epoxy longboard. I’m 57kg and 1.6m Where I live now can get windy at time, has a river and an wavy ocean so I thought I’d get into SUP SURF. What board would you recommend for me? Looking forward to hearing from you.
Great to hear you are getting into SUP surfing! If you love the longboards, then take a look at the Infinity New Deal 9' x 31" @ 125L, or the SMIK Style Lord 9' x 30" @ 120L. These boards have enough width for you to be very stable, but thin in the rails and low on volume to still offer performance. Otherwise, going for something like the Fanatic All Wave 8'7" x 31" @ 135L or the Starboard Wedge 8'7" x 32" @ 143L would be great to start on as they are stable and easy to catch waves on. Remember to check out SUPboarder PRO where you can access the head to head tests of our wide body and longboard shapes, but also use Ask The Experts to send us these questions and we can reply with more detail 🤙 Thanks and hope this helps, Beau
It's definitely a great start to have a coach with you when learning. You will progress so much quicker and enjoy it more as well. We have a lot of videos online that will help you getting started, but backing that up with some lessons is worth it too. Where are you based? I'm in the UK and run SUP surf lessons, but also travel for SUP coaching too. Thanks, Beau
To make sharper turns, boards with thinner rails and narrower widths in the tail will hold in the wave face more. It's hard to advise a certain size as boards have different design features such as width, rocker, thickness, volume, etc. Hope this helps? Beau
Thank you for the detailed comparison between these two types of turns. Really well edited video too :)
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed the video. Beau
This is a really well-done video, thanks for taking the time
Thanks Eric. Appreciate the comment. Beau
Great video! Throwing in a little check slide to kill some speed if you are getting ahead of the wave can be useful to. Cheers
Great tip! You got the moves 🏄♂️ Thanks for the comment, Beau
Great demo thanks!

@@SUPboardermag Awesome! Thank you. Do you think it’s necessary to have a local personal coach to start with sup surf?

Great help, thanks
You're welcome!
Don't think I've ever pulled off a sliding turn. Nice rundown though.
