In this video, I show you how to install a roll up door on a shed. Personally, I think that roll up doors look awesome for a modern shed - so I was willing to pay a bit extra to achieve the look I wanted. Installing a Roll up door in a shed is a relatively easy project that anyone can tackle.
I purchased a Janus 650 Roll Up Door for my shed application. Here are the specs on the exact roll up door I ordered:
- 6'-0' Wide x 7'-0" High Janus 650
- Silhouette Gray
- Wood Mount
- Stainless Steel Mini Latch
- Standard Manual Operation
- Guides + Hardware
There are many different shed door options, but using a Janus 650 roll up door for my shed door was the right call for my Modern Shed Build.

Just ordered my door and was so happy to find this online. You answered some questions I was going to have to work out myself. My building was a mini home in it's earlier life and only has 8 foot ceilings so I didn't know if this would work for me. I just ordered a shorter door and all is well.
Where's everybody's comments? I love the door. Does it or rather, can it be locked, if needed? How heavy is it; I didn't get a long enough look at the paperwork. What is the material the rollup door is made with? It looks just fantastic and you guys work well together too - no need to go to the gym tonight! Thank you.

I see you had trim around the door finished prior to installing. I do not have any of my trim done yet (using steel siding) but want to get the door installed asap. Will this be a problem? should I install the door trim before installing the door?
Did you look into locking options? Storage facility type padlocks seem kinda lame.
The shed I’m building is up in the mountains. Mice are a huge problem. I couldn’t tell from your video. Do you think mice can get in through this type of door?
Just curious, how does this do with keeping critters like mice out of the shed space?
I just had a door like installed on my shed. First rainstorm and had a ton of water on the floor.
Oh man, that really sucks. Can you say more about the circumstances? Was it the door? Jam? Side?
@Charles Grove the installer was missing the sill plate, so all the water ran down the door and into the shed. Hopefully it will get resolved when the sill Plat is installed.

For your specific 6’ wide door, what width spacing did you have between your posts with this kind of door?
You order by the rough opening, so his rough was 6x7.

So how much inside head space did you need for the roll ? Where I want to put a door all i have in head space is 7.5” 😳
Check the manufacturer’s website. They should let you know how much clearance needed based on the type/size of door you are ordering
Would lowes or home depot sell something like this. If not where could I purchase something like this ? And what would the cost be per door kit ?

As a garage door tech what you did is very stupid and could have gotten both of you hurt extremely bad ....install guides to your jambs plumb and level then lift the curtain to the mounting brackets....
