Making A Wobble Ring: A Silversmithing Tutorial
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 сер 2024
- This video tutorial shows how to create an easy and fun design for a sterling silver ring with three simple bands soldered together to make unique styles. There are many different ways to configure these, which can make for lots of variations. The only materials I used were: 14 gauge sterling square wire, and hard silver solder. This is a fun and easy beginner project. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful?

Love your vids
Thanks Adiem:). Glad you like them!
🎉🎉 thank you
You’re welcome Joy! Thanks for the nice comment:)
I've done silversmithing throughout my life from around age 11 and now I'm 68. My sister is far more talented in the art but recently wanted to watch videos for beginners and found your channel.
I guess you can teach an old horse new tricks 😁
We have learned a lot from you!!!
THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for those truly nice words! I continue to learn lots of great ideas and strategies from the nice people I have met through this venture. It's great to know that what I am doing is helping others as well. Take care 56hobbit!
Gosh, you make pick soldering look so easy!
Thanks Jen! Keep practicing; it gets easier as you go:) Take care!
Wow, I really like the simplicity of this ring and yet it looks elegant. Thank you for your sharing you creations with us.
Of course! I hope people are inspired to try things they haven’t before! Thanks for the nice comment Marietta:)
Wow. I luv this ring. I have made one out of round wire & have received many compliments. I like how the square wire can give a more solid appearance to the ring. I tend to shy away from square wire but your videos are really encouraging me to give it another try!
Thnx so much for sharing all of your knowledge & skills...and supporting those of us that are learning a new skill. Have a great day.
I was surprised how much people like this style given it’s relative simplicity. I should probably make some for shows this summer:). Thanks Susan!
Really like this ring, thanks for sharing.
Thanks Pat! These ones are fun and easy:). Thanks for watching!
Hello sir ❤️ have a great day

Aloha Chad ! I just have to say that I get so happy every time I see you have another beautiful project I get to see you work on!
Mahalo and Aloha 🌺🤙🏻🤗
All the way from Maui
Thanks Paula! You are always so nice:). I’m a little envious of your location! I haven’t been to see the ocean for years! Do Hawaii’s volcanoes produce an collectible peridot? Always wondered that.
I don’t know about the peridots, but it would be on The Big Island with the active volcano (or soon to be active)
Hello sir ❤️ have a great day
@@prubin111I just saw this exchange between you and Chad. I hope you and your loved ones (and your homes) survived the fires! Hugs!
Pretty Awesome!
Thanks Ms.C2222! Glad you liked it:)
Hello madam ❤️ have a great day
I made something similar out of copper the other day. I twisted 2 wires together and then hammered them. Your way looks easier!
Thanks for the comment Pam! These ones are pretty easy to do:)
Hello friends ❤️ have a great day
Shout out to your wife for the waving pickles in the waves. ❤
Hehe. I’ll let her know. She’s really creative!
Nos gusta Sta mucho sus videos pero no entendemos por qué no hay traduccion
¡Gracias! Voy a ver cómo hacerlo.
Esos alambres de grosor son? Hay alambre cuadrado también verdad?
Tengo los tamaños de cables en las descripciones de los videos:) (1.6 mm)
Por favorcito r puedes sacar tras ccion en Español
Lamentablemente no sé cómo hacerlo. ¡Disculpas!
Do you quench and pickle in between soldering the third ring?
Hello Marty! Most people do, but I do things a little unconventionally in that don’t use the flux to control where the solder goes, and I use hard solder in almost all cases. I will periodically pickle things during construction if they get too gummed up with flux.
I really look up to what you have done with your channel. I aspire and not only learn from your skills, but also how u configure your channel. Id love to ask you questions or get guidance if ur open to that. If i can direct message you somewhere?
Thanks Boom! You can message me on Instagram if you like. I’m no expert, but I can tell you what I’ve learned about UA-cam. I really like the cool stuff you make, and it’s always good to talk with another jewelry maker. You could also join my Patreon if you like. I created a discord server where we can post stuff, pick each other’s brains, share ideas and resources. It’s a nice group. Either way, thanks for the nice comment!
What is pickle and how to?
Hello again Gary. Picklesafe is used to clean up the metal. Many people pickle their piece in between each soldering operation. I generally do it mostly at the end. It gets rid of flux and other surface contaminates. I use a sulfuric acid pickle, but there are many different types.
Chad I would love to try to make this ring but as a beginner I am concerned about the cost of the silver.
Can I use nickel silver instead? Thanks for your advice. Roberta
You probably could
Roberta. I’ve never really worked with nickel silver, so I’m probably not the best person to ask. I imagine at current silver prices, the amount of silver in this type of ring is roughly .1 Troy ounces which equates to about $3 or $4 total. Silver has been hovering between $20 and $25 per Troy ounce lately. Hope this helps! Thanks for the good question!
What are you spraying on them before soldering ?
Hello Gary. That is flux, which dissolves existing oxides on the surface, and creates a coating to help prevent re-oxidizing as you heat the metal. The kind I use is a mixture of boric acid and alcohol I believe. Solder doesn't like to stick to oxides:)
What is the ratio of ingredients
