Glad I wasn't the only one wondering exactly why they'd keep a copy of Silverhands around! As I mentioned in my own anaylsis vid, I haven't finished the game but I assumed that, idk, they wanted to appropriate his image for their own PR or something. Relaunch his band as a hologram to play at the 25th annual Arisaka Music Awards, lol.
Great video! You actually covered some topics I wanted to, but felt ill-equipped to since I'm not as learned when it comes to economic theory OR the history of the setting, compared to philosphy and politics. Glad to see even more themetic analysis out there. Especially loved the attention to the background happenings, that was the main thing I wanted to cover more of but couldn't fit it in my script.
Even with it's flaws, I feel like this game's themes and statment(s) are some of the most relevant in recent history.

The reason why they kept him alive is about Alt Cunningham. This is an important part of the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop storyline. This is why Netwatch had been interested of him.
Remember Alt is the first person "ascending" through the first version of this program. Someone who is mythical in a way and went out of hand. Silverhand is a kind of hostage here to Arasaka.

Very interesting. They do kind of explain why in the game too, but I was more poking fun at story cliche's :D

@@TrevKen Hehe, well the story made by Mike Pondsmith mostly in the roleplaying tabletop game, and he indeed using cliche - though again these stories was there for decades. Before Matrix and such.
The computer game itself is in some degree a wink to the tropes and stories in Cyberpunk literature and art that had been already out there, from Akira to Ghost in the Shell, to Blade Runner to Matrix.

Great stuff! Seems I can't post a comment linking to it directly, but there's an article up on Medium by the title "Cyberpunk Anticipated the High-Tech Assault on Democracy We’re All Living Through", which I highly recommend if you haven't read it already.

Excellent. Glad you enjoyed it. Good to hear feedback like that. Thanks for the recommendation too. I have it open in another tab and will read it once I've watched this new Adam Curtis documentary. :D

    Good stuff.
Audio-mixing could use some work, but no sweat.

Thanks. Yeah I did fix that but Adobe gave up exporting 4K footage. It just kept crashing so this version had to do.

3:05 just when things were starting to get interesting, the loud music came on too. What's with youtubers and soft voices over loud music?

Well Fuck. I haven't finished the game yet. I'm a slow player, don't like grinding through things with worlds to explore. I'll drop a like and Comment for the algorithm though, and come back once I know what the fuck is going on.

There aren't many spoilers in this video. It's mostly backstory or stuff you get told at the start anyway.
