  • First snow of the season! In this episode, I take the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon up another spectacular high-elevation forest road network, in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, exploring ten miles of cumulative primitive track. This route features colorful fall foliage, switchbacks, scenic overlooks, rocky mountaintops, and the occasional secluded campsite! At around 11,000 feet, the tree-line gives way to a jagged moonscape and shelf-roads.

I really admire your courage and strong mind to explore those remote sites alone, I really do. And I also extremely envy your colorful life and independence. Being alone is not hard, the facing of unknown risk and issue (like vehicle problem, trail condition, land slide….) is hard !! I believe it is the passion and the nature of personality supporting what you have been doing amazingly for years !! It is a remarkable experience in your life time !!

Your last video you cut off the comment section for some reason which is fine so I thought I'd add it to this one. I really enjoy your videos you and there's another young man up in Canada. Foresty forest. He lives out of a van four-wheel drive van. It cruises the mountains with his dog. You and him are the only two that I watch. Everybody else is trying to sell you something. I don't like that. If I need something I'll go get it. I don't need every outdoor channel to tell me what I should buy, but other than that you're one of the better ones out there and I really enjoy your videos. Looking forward to your next one. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦

@@irishdefense77 I don’t know what Chris believes, but as a gun owner I’d be more scared of what a state trooper in IL or CA can do to me vs any wildlife. I agree with you, Im just pointing out that traveling with a gun isn’t that simple. There was a single mom in Pennsylvania that took a wrong turn and landed up in NJ. She got pulled over by a cop while trying to turn around to go home and landed up in jail because she had a gun. Legal gun owner in Penn, jail time in NJ.

I believe that is gear whine from the transfer case in low range. Differentials are ring and pinion gears and don't whine at low speed.
Transfer case gears are either straight cut or helical cut. It should have a chain drive "T"case, with a 4 to 1 ratio low range being a Rubicon.

Excellent action video and still-like shots. The editing is superb. Why I like this installment: No domestic footage. To wit: A comment from my wife (also a long-time viewer) who became increasingly disinterested in this channel, was, “It’s different now. It’s like viewing someone’s home movies of their honeymoon”. I tend to agree. Whenever you to go back to your home base vehicle and show scenes of your ‘domestic life’, it breaks the spell of the solo adventurer. I am SO happy you found a great life companion, but my 2 cents is: Keep your private life private.

My wife and I have been watching you’re episodes for years and years. I will say, as where your videos are still beautiful, you seem to now be down to 1 day of actual videoing travels, and the rest is 3 minutes of intro and 2 minutes of outro. Use to be we would see all days of travel, visiting towns, cheap pizza/coffee joints, camping and such. Now it seems to be forced gathering of videos so you can quickly get back to Shannon. I appreciate all you have done and super happy for what looks to be a happier lifestyle for you, but your change in format and the fact that it’s really lower amounts of content is making it less enjoyable.
