This is EXACTLY what I was looking for when searching how to construct a curved staircase on a hillside. I can’t believe you were able to complete this project in a couple of days. Amazing! The end result is just beautiful. You have inspired me…and my back hurts just thinking about starting my own project. Thank you so much!
Love the idea of the steps narrowing as they go up to give that forced perspective, the staircase really does seem very long and winding! Great video Lake Warrior!
Thankyou Lee! Perspective is a very powerful tool in both stage Design an Home Design! Who knows maybe I’ll do another video on more examples of perspective!?
Would be nice to have closer look at the drainage, and a few more close ups in the process most people who watch this kind of stuff are going to want to learn the close up detail=) Thank you for showing your work.
Just found you! Your staircase got a sub from me. Brilliant work. I do a lot of the same stuff as you, and was looking for a solution. I didnt find my solution here, but your work totally inspired me. Im a lawn care pro and landscape designer, and in winter, an old house restoration specialty contractor. Really love your vibe and excited to have found your channel.
It’s held up well. Depending on where u live I would not consider mortar. If u get snow the freezing an heaving in winter will crack your mortar. If you don’t get freezing you might be ok with it. Good luck Lake warrior
@@lakewarrior1443 Great tip! I was just considering mortar and did not consider this. Question- does the polymeric sand withstand the freezes better? Thanks!
I have been researching how to do something like this for our yard. I have found many complicated theories or straight lines. I have a curved staircase that expands at the bottom in mind. Thank you for taking some of the legwork out for me with the supply company tip. What do you mean by “screened finds”? You go through your pile of rocks, lining up similar heights? Or are you talking about screening them before purchase? The latter seems like it wouldn’t be an option.
Screen findings are the fine stone that gets screened out. Basically small fine stone material that can pact. Crushed limestone or oven crushed cement works the same! Hope that helps!? Thanks for watching Lake warrior
Good question, In general the sand will be good for some time! If it needs new you can remove it easily and repeat the process. Pretty forgiving stuff! Send pics of your steps!
the first step seems the hardest to understand. how is it that the bottom boulders stay in place? did you dig for them to sit into something before filing
Hey Ninestar, u dig in slightly to the ground. The step rocks are 6-7” so they are pretty stable. I also lock them together side by side mainly by rotating them so they fit together. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching! Lake warrior
If you are calling around or searching online they will call those “boulders”, now. Trust me, I was disappointed, too but I went to buy river rock and they loaded up some crappy jagged rock and I said…”this is NOT river rock. This is colored gravel crap!” So the guy mansplained to me that they now call it “pond stones”. When I’ve been at HD, Lowes, etc, lately…. These larger rocks are called “boulders” and I believe in the Midwest they call them “pond boulders” 😂. It’s ridiculous but…. That’s just what I’ve noticed and am throwing it in there. To me, a Boulder is something that only Andre the Giant could move 😊
Dude legit have a small project gonna follow suit great vid
Lake Warrior, You are an artist!! Your yard is beautiful!
Greatly appreciated! Thanks for watching!

I was just doing a similar project at my home and man my back is killing me. Great to see your project! Looks awesome!

Thank you for showing your work.
Hey Real Life! I am thinking about doing a follow up with a focus on the details! Stay tuned!
Thanks for watching!
Lake warrior
Did you do a follow up on the drainage
Yes!! Agreed! My biggest questions are the drainage and angle of the step or the base underneath

Thanks for watching
Thank you! I have a very steep bank rising from a stream that I want to do exactly that.
Go for it!
You did an awesome job
Hey Thanks Laverne, my back was little sore after this project:)
Thanks for the comment!

Only one word.... superb
Looks great! How has it held up over these last 2 years? I'm trying to decide between using mortar or not.

Thanks for clarifying!
Would you recommend using mortar on the boulders under the flagstones for security?
I did not but u could! They are pretty firm once it all gets set in!
The steps look amazing! Totally doable for anyone. Will you need to maintain the locking sand between the stone over time?
Good question, In general the sand will be good for some time! If it needs new you can remove it easily and repeat the process. Pretty forgiving stuff! Send pics of your steps!
Great job!!!
Thank you!!
Looks amazing!
Thanks Bill!!

Do I need add a pipe for drainage?
How much in material?
Looks beautiful
All in roughly $750.00. Stone base, 1.5” bluestone, boulders.

😊😂🤣😍😍😍
Looks very nice but those are not boulders. They are just rocks.
