- After exploring the Bay of Islands a bit more we sail Greatcircle from Opua to Whangarei where she will stay as we will travel to Europe for a couple of months.
Tanke well. Love your Videos and cool music.
"Little Mini Me"! I love it. Two peas in a pod for sure! Thanks for the great episode!
Thank you for your videos. You share what most of us can only dream of doing. ❤❤
Thanks for sharing !
Loved that drone footage of the hole in the wall, amazing 👍🤩
Absolutely fantastic, now subscribed so I can watch more up to date videos. From Southampton . Uk.
Wonderfull images. 👍👍😀
Many thanks for all updates. Have a great period in between with safe & healthy returns to the boat in March.
Yet Another excellent report thanks so much for posting and enjoy some time back in Europe, We are all looking forward to the resumption of the voyage in the New Year no doubt. From Devon in the UK.
Mark and Marijka, Good to have met you at Glennis' home in Opua NZ. I wanted to congratulate you on The Netherlands win over the US in the World Cup round of 16! Good luck in the Quarterfinals against Argentina. Hope our paths cross again. Charles Price (if you want to contact me best to use my email or text info) Happy sailing!!!
Your quality is bar none, thank your for all your efforts bringing us this inspiring content!
- your ficcacha might be coming out like pizza due to overworking it. Try mixing in the ingredients with a spatula until they come together and let rest for 24 hrs, make into loafs and bake. ✌️
Great drone shots of the boat and islands👍
Thank you! Love ❤ your videos.
Oh no, such a long break! I would love to see a (Couch)video dealing with your experiences concerning the different type of sails. Which ones are nice, which ones a must to have? Wonderfull videos! All the best from germany :)
We’ll have a pretty busy non sailing schedule in Europe but maybe will find time to create something.
Bravo as always beautiful. Question Mark, when you it the reef why the dagerboard was not damage? How deep does it go? I though it's will be hit before the rudder. Michel Montreal Canada
The reason we didn’t saw the reef and it’s even very difficult to see on satellite images is that the highest points of the reef where around 1,5 m deep. The port daggerboard was on rudder depth, the starboard daggerboard even all the way down on 2.30m. The starboard rudder might have just scratched the top of the reef, both daggerboards didn’t even touch it. A couple of centimeters left or right might have made a huge difference for better or for worse 🙈
We do use the daggerboards also downwind a bit to protect the saildrives
@@CatGreatcircle Thank you and fair wind
Whangarei my home town... there are loads of walking tracks etc... enjoy
Beautiful tracks (bit wet though today…)
Just walked along Whangarei river and found you guys parked up
Yup parking video coming up 😎🙈
Yacht looks stunning in location. Wish water wasn't so browm
Another nice video as usual - some stunning locations. A question - what are the bits of rope on both the port and starboard shrouds?
They function really well against resonance of the shrouds that occurs at certain wind speeds and angles. We’re too lazy not to let them out there all the time
Hi folks. I was wondering, can you estimate your average monthly fuel costs so far? Also, what do you guess your ave monthly food and entertainment costs are so far in the valley? Many thanks!!
We used about 1500 liter of diesel so far in 1,5 year in total for engines and genset. Food will be just like normal depending on how much you consume and where 😎
@@CatGreatcircle Many thanks! I'm building a two video series on my little channel comparing the four circumnavigation rallies available now. I'm trying to give a ball park on exactly what the adventure will cost including depreciation, fuel, food, etc. etc. Your real life data will certainly help. Many thanks and keep those wonderful videos coming!
😀👍👍❤

Been enjoying the footage of your voyage, got to love the performance of your Outremer 55. Am interested to know the background for not selecting the Wingaker that you had on the Lagoon. How effective was it on the squally Atlantic downwind conditions? do you find your current red symmetric spinnaker (stormlite 210?) to be a better choice? and comparing with asymmetric (lovely black/red colour choice!), is it more efficient than the Wingaker? thanks.
The Wingaker was ok but most of them didn’t reach the other side in the ARC. It’s less noisy than sailing wing on wing but not a lot faster.
The heavy duty smaller symmetrical spi was nee for us but worked really well in the tradewinds with more wind. When the wind is close to 20 knots or higher the VMG going dead downwind is hard to beat sailing angles.
The big asymmetrical spi has a lot of potential as Loïc and Matthieu showed me in LGM going constantly over 15 knots in 20-24 knots of true wind, still in the range of the max apparent wind. We’re still a bit more careful as we want to be sure we can take it down when necessary
@@CatGreatcircle Thank you for your response. Is the symmetrical in Stormlite (polyester) or nylon? Keep up your excellent video footage!
Polyester
may I ask you a hypothetical? imagine there was a world war and a boat could not legally enter any nation (like covid) and only anchor or land where they would be unnoticed, uninhabited islands, etc. How long do you think a yacht well provisioned and top condition could sustain itself in that situation? thanks!
If there is enough sun and you would be a better fisherman than I am probably indefinitely. The watermaker runs on 24v and the solar normally produces enough energy unless it’s extremely cloudy for several days in a row. When all the cans are empty you would have to rely on fishing and what you can find on deserted land
no mention of finding your land legs, lol
Ms Blanik is definitely your daughter from another mother. You guys look like mother-daughter.
So how long is the break and will you still post videos?
Due to the cyclone season we can’t cross to New Caledonia before the second half of March. The downside of being up to date with the videos is of course that we don’t have episodes in stock. So unless something interesting happens related to sailing you’ll have a halfway break too..
we are crossing keel waters again
We don’t even have a keel 😎
@@CatGreatcircle right thats what I love - have fun
not cruising NZ for our summer?
In March when we return a bit, and yes this is a pity. Would have loved to see NZ from the water as well.
Why "Mini Me" is Elisa your daughter ?
Could have been
when is the under water drone, going to be made?
You mean the one you saw in Martinique? It belongs to the owners of 5X Surya
