Darkness Falls is a film whose production is more interesting than the final project. The whole movie was being rewritten and reshot while it was being made. They even changed the title and the whole look of the monster super late which lead to funny situation with McFarlane toys. Despite all of this some people consider it a modern cult classic. People like johanna and Kira.
Darkness Falls is a 2003 supernatural horror film written by Joe Harris and John Fasano, and directed by Jonathan Liebesman. The film stars Chaney Kley and Emma Caulfield. The film follows Kyle Walsh, who witnesses his mother's murder at the hands of a vengeful spirit lynched by an angry mob more than 150 years ago.

Thank you for covering this. I watched it in the theatres in Glasgow Scotland, back in 2003, when I was 17. It was a midnight showing and I was in a mostly empty theatre and it absolutely terrified me.
On the walk home (all buses had stopped for the night) I was consciously staying in the most lit parts of the street and when I got home, I kept the light on my room and waited for sunrise before being able to sleep. It's silly to think about it, but it genuinely scared me like no other film ever has, not even as a 9 year old watching films like RoboCop, Psycho, Silence of the Lambs etc

I remember thinking it was OK when I originally watched it. Problem with "ok" horror movies, and horror movies in general, is that they're often judged more subjectively than other genres. That says a ton since all movies in the entire movie industry are judged with a heavy dose of subjectivity.

It made more sense for what the movie turned out to be. The previous version would have only worked for the original idea where the monster didn't show up till the end.

@@HackTheMovies you know when you mention that, it reminded me of the boogeyman movie. That one was originally supposed to be a psychological horror film and at the end of it the main character was supposed to find out his suppressed memories. Then the studio flipped out and insisted they put a CGI monster in the last 5 minutes of the film. My opinion is, had they gone ahead with the original script, it would have been every bit as forgettable as the boogeyman

I didnt care much for it when it came out but ill tell you what, I still remember this flick VIVIDLY as an adult. Something to be said about a movie that sticks with you that way. For context, I just watched the movie BARBARIAN last night because im a big WKUK fan. Yeah, talk about a STUPID, FUCKING, MOVIE. The first 20 minutes are solid but then it goes full stupid and relies on nothing but jump scares and some mildly gross moments. I will only remember that film to tell people NOT to watch it. It had potential and then just flushed it all away for cheap scares and what might be the most unintentionally funny ending of all time.

    I own this DVD.
I appreciate this movie for what it is. Kind of a product of it's time. Lacking in story, but it is fine to leave enough to imagination.
Everything about this movie is. fine.. satisfying.. You get a Killswitch engage song? I loved them at the time, and this was right in that era where metal bands released a track with horror movies.
Not something that would be exciting or great to new viewers now. But I'd consider it a cult classic. Those who like it I am sure like it enough.
It has a decent tone! Scary enough. It's fine.
