    Man, I clicked on the video because I expected other kind of, "boiler room". That's one of the nicest boiler rooms I've seen. Great setup. Simple explanation. I think it would be great, to focus on on all the piping and reasoning about the system in depth. Thanks for the time that you took to explain that. Classy shirt. Best wishes.

    The "surge tank" is an expansion tank. It is to absorb the extra volume the boiler water creates as it is heated and expands. It is not a hammer arrestor, it contains boiler water not domestic water.
    The "over pressure valve" is an air elimination valve. there is a pressure relief valve near your temp and pressure gauge.
    Your mixing valve may not be bad. Maybe you are not pulling the handle out enough to turn it. It will not turn with the screw in and if the handle is not pulled back. If you unscrew it remove it and look inside the plastic handle it might make more sense.
    The following is taken from the manual
    To adjust temperature setting of the mixing valve. Loosen
    hand wheel screw, lift handwheel and turn to desired
    temperature, push the hand wheel on, then retighten screw.
