I saw this about 20 years ago in the if. Occasionally they would show a "mystery film' for free and I went to this not knowing what I was about to see, I was in the front row and I didn't know I was watching a David Lynch film or who he was. It might have been just before the official release. I remember seeing it on DVD about 10 years later, it had no chapters because David Lynch hates them. Anyway my theory is that half the film is a dream of the other half but I forget which half

David lynch is one of the greatest modern filmakers. And arguably one of the greatest directors of all time.That doesn't mean that his films are for everyone. There is a language that he uses to take audiences on a journey. His films are not presented in a traditional story narrative. So he is challenging our understanding of reality and conscious vs subconscious thoughts. People express confusion because they come into his films expecting to be presented with story.this is the mistake the audience ars making, not Lynch. The whole idea is how the sounds and images are impacting us,and the emotions we are experiencing. Not the story.in case of mulholland drive,we are presented with archetypal characters in historically significant locations where films have been made dating back to the 20s.so we are seeing alot of stereotypical film tropes,spanning decades.and as usual he is pulling back the curtain to show us the underbelly of society and business and human nature. There are books on mulholland drive alone as well as lost highway twin peaks blue velvet and how they all tie in to each other in various ways.i would not recommend watching any of these films in isolation and trying to understand them.lynchs work is a compendium and has to be viewed as such.requires alot of time and investment. But is well worth it if you want to get interesting and unique perspectives on life.
The film is very pretentious.
This movie sounds confusing friend ❓ I don't think I have ever seen it before. Maybe if I can find it for a low price I will give it try. If it has you wondering what you just seen, I will too be wondering what is this and why did I spend a lot on it ❓🫨🤓
