  • First of all, I'd like to thank Tarro Fire & Rescue Station for doing this for Me and Zach, it was amazing!
On Saturday, May 11th. Me and Zach (‪@lightningfun6486‬ ) travelled to the Hunter Valley to visit Tarro Fire and Rescue on FRNSW Open Fire Day to hear their Grifco 888 that just received an overhaul. The siren now has a fresh housing from a newer 888 and runs healthy. This one was much louder than the one in Cessnock!
    Enjoy!

Great Vid! Do some stations in NSW still use Air Raid Sirens? I originally thought not, but since some stations like Tarro have gone to the effort of restoring them I get the impression that they are still used occasionally.

The sirens mounted on fire stations would be called fire sirens. Unfortunately most fire stations in NSW that have sirens no longer use them. It’s uncommon they still get used as pager backup or technology failure. Fire and Rescue stations in NSW are all permanently based and not volunteers so there’s not any reason to use them to call fire fighters in unless this is a Rural Fire Brigade (and pager backup). And yeah, Tarro’s siren was refurbished for functional display as part of their open fire days.

@@SirensAndTrainsDownUnder Yeah that makes sense, shame that not many are using them anymore. I’m aware that some small-town retained stations are in fact removing them because every crew member is finally getting supplied with a pager.
I assume it might be a slightly different case for the RFS Volunteers?

@@0ne-6right40 for RFS volunteers they indefinitely use their sirens for pager backup unlike FRNSW. A lot of their sirens are guaranteed to be in use.
