Like Richie Friedman, we’ve been without a light in one of the bedrooms for a year. Moved in and realized it was inoperable. Easy fix, right? I’ve been looking for a direct fit replacement and today I finally UA-camd it. I’ll let you know how it goes! The local big box hardware store told me i needed an entire replacement ceiling fan! I knew there had to be someone out there that knew better. Thanks!
You make it look much easier than it was but I am so happy I had success! I had little experience with wiring and I had to watch some additional videos on that whole subject. This process was time consuming even just finding the correct light and size. Since they don’t sell replacement lights Lowe’s told me I can bring the fan in and they would replace it but that seemed even more complicated. Thanks so much!
Thank you for this video. I was confused why the bulb stopped working...it has been less than a year that we have had this fan. I'm not sure I would purchase another LED ceiling fan.
Update...went perfectly...to think we had no light for over a year...and for 15 bucks...bam! Have another fan in the den, so I'm ready. It flickers occasionally. Sunlite doesn't have the 40K, so I went with the 88480...50K...needed more light anyhow. Thanks for the grounding wire tip. One screw lined up as you said and I drilled a hole for the other tapping screw to hold down the LED unit perfectly. Side note... working above my head is not that easy anymore...lol...so I cut off the plastic connectors from the original, leaving 2" of wire where I cut, and did a wire nut splice on the new LED wires... and only had to reconnect like the original way in the fan housing...white to white, as you said! Thanks again👍 CHEERS
This is so ridiculous that one should have to do this when one buys a ceiling fan / light. Never again. Standard bulbs from now on. Don’t buy this junk if Harbor Breeze can’t support it. This is the 2nd time for me. Had to junk the first pair of fans because the LED’s weren’t available. I made the mistake of assuming a reputable brand like HB, as well as Lowe’s would offer replacements. These light kits don’t last that long either.
Thank you Scott for the detailed video, and replacement was done very quickly with out any hassle, but after the installation my remote is not recognized by the fan, so I can't use remote to turn off the fan or dim the light. Any help?
You probably have to go through the set up procedure. It's either dip switches on the fan and remote that have to be the same. Check under the battery cover. If it's not that, check the manual as it's something like press one of the buttons on the remote after you turn on power at the switch. It's a harbor breeze mazon this is how you do it: Restore electrical power. Within 30 seconds of restoring electrical power, press and hold the “0” button on the remote control transmitter for 5 seconds or until light on the fan blinks twice. Use the remote control transmitter to test the light and fan functions to confirm the learning process is complete
@@ScottAllison Thank you, i don't remember the model name but it looks like Mazon but the remote looks different. My remote has the dip switches and learn button.
Thanks. This was very useful. It would be interesting to buy a bulb light from the hardware store, take out the led out of that, and then putting that in a fan.
Thanks for the video. It’s unfortunate that these Chinese light discs don’t like more than a year or two (for me)…backward progress vs normal bulbs or even old incandescents.
Great video. The only problem I have is there on no stickers on fan stating the wattage. Fan looks exactly as the one in your video. Any suggestions on wattage?
If it is the exact same fan then it's 18 watts. If you can find the user manual for the fan online you should be able to confirm the wattage for the light.
I thought this video was the right way for fixing my Mazon ceiling fan's light. But it might not be the same situation. The terminal voltage you measured should be 110~120V but my terminal voltage has only 74V. I cannot proceed to the next step as you did. Could you advise me on solving my problem or finding a clue?
In this video it is a Mazon. The reason you're getting less volts at the light is because you have it dimmed. If you hold down the light button on the remote you'll see the voltage go up or down.
It might be your fan is getting interference from a neighbor's device like a fan or even a garage door opener. You could try changing the remote control code if your fan supports that. Otherwise, just disconnect the light. That will work fine!
I'd do this just to get the color temp upgrade since I have 4000K elsewhere, even better I'm seeing I could get a serious bump in lumen output. The wattage probably doesn't matter too much if the unit is getting 110V in - that is its not being powered by LED driver with possibly limited power output. So long as the new unit isn't generating too much heat that it overheats other electronics in the fan - but in general the light part is well separated from rest of it and it's attached to a big hunk of metal (motor etc) with a fan so unlikely to be an issue. Also note that as LEDs get more efficient they need to draw less watts to output the same amount of light (lumens) so as the years go on expect that a unit with a lower Watt usage could be as bright if not brighter than one the manufacturer put in the fan years ago.
@@ScottAllisonthe dimmer remote came with the unit. Should I check with a multimeter like you did? Could the wires just be coming loose? It is happening on 2 fans actually. Thanks for your quick response! I will subscribe if I haven't already

I agree with you that these should last way longer and they should sell replacements at a fair price.
Agreed.
thanks! This POS came with my condo. Just want a normal bulb! lol
Perfect video to give me a quick run down. Ordered the right part and installed in 10 mins. Thanks!
Did it myself, thanks again a follower for life ....1

Informative video .Made switching out problem light easy. Thanks for video
Glad it worked out!
Thank you! I plan on doing this to my harbor breeze ceiling fan also. Our house got struck by lightning and every single led in the house burnt out.
Oh no! What a pain. Good luck!
Thank you for posting this video! It was very helpful
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video. It’s unfortunate that these Chinese light discs don’t like more than a year or two (for me)…backward progress vs normal bulbs or even old incandescents.
Very educational. It answered my question since I have a Smart Fan with LED lights.
How do you disconnect the two wires when taking the light down? Thanks
Wondering the same thing
How do I remove the LED light from the circular metal plate? It’s screwed to the plate under the light. I can’t remove it.
Same
I don't know how to disconnect the wires and you skipped over that part 😢
same
Same, the only part I needed
They are just quick connect, pull them apart both at the same time opposite ways
Same
Not working.
How did you cut off those white end pieces?

Is it possible to just remove it and leave it off? My randomly turns on the lights in the middle of the night when turned off.
Mine too! I took it out. Still trying to find a replacement but the fan works great without it.

Can we replace with Daylight type LED lights ? let me know very urgent
Yes you can. Just buy one with a high color temperature. Like 5000K
What do call the glass light cover? Im looking for a replacement part and dont know what to call it.
Probably best to try calling the manufacturer support line and see if they sell that part
Does anyone know how to convert this atrocity into a regular twist bulb?
Exactly, if I’m going to jerk around with the stupid thing I’d rather jury rig it once so I can just replace the bulbs.
Thank you! Our exact unit and problem!
I'm assuming if my remote does not have a dimmable feature, then I can't dim the light?
Do they make these replacement lights with remote connection?
Not that I know of. But you can buy a remote module to convert an old fan.

Are these just for fans or can the ceiling light use these too?
Could be used in ceiling lights too. Just make sure to check for the right voltage
Awesome 😎 thank you!!
What type of wire connector is used in this fan, how to disconnect ?
I don't know the name of it, but the replacement didn't have a connector, so I just cut it off and replaced with wire nuts
My LED lights flicker, work, or don't randomly. Is that a bad connection?
Hard to say. Could be that, or just faulty electronics. Do you have it connected to a dimmer? If so, remove that.

I just meant make sure you don't have a dimmer switch on the wall.
Were they like this from the start or just started doing this after some time?
@@ScottAllison It worked fine for a few years
I can’t figure out how to disconnect the wires from the fixture
Until you said i didn't realize the remote had a dimming feature.. lol thanks again
LOL. Same thing happened to me. Took me months to figure out you could dim it.
Not all hero’s wear capes.
How to install it
Also, this fan system is going in the trash ! lol
What about lumens? Do not see that anywhere
More watts, more lumens. When buying a replacement you'll usually find both are in the product listing.
I wish they had RGB
well that is one way to defeat the LED's back plane from heat sinking to the fan case
What?
