no where i was there was 5 inches of snow and a bus crashed into a house some kid broke a bone on the way to school we were still forced to go to school also Who doesn't love a day off
I can’t seem to fathom why the sprinklings of snow nowadays creates such crises. Up until the late 60’s, we managed work, school + travel with knee deep snow + we even experienced shoulder height snow over several winters. In childhood, we had little shovels clipped on to our School Bags to clear pathways on the way home if needs be. I never imagined the 21st century would bring such failing embarrassment!
Difference is , in Scandinavian countries, Russia and Canada, they expect far more snow, so they are used it. Having snow ploughs, heated roads, triple glazed windows, etc. If the weather rose to 30°+ (which happens a lot in the uk, especially London) they wouldn't know what to do! Except Canadians, where a large percentage at live closer to the equator, then the uk.
I think its just for a kids so they can enjoy 1-3 days of snow a year. If not im jealous. I remember when i had to go to school at -15 and snow all the way to my knees... :P
Its probably more to do with accident claims if someone slips on a school premises. A stupid blame and claim culture instead of taking responsibility for your own actions.
Snow causes delays on roads and cars get stuck,so teachers and students struggle to get in as trains are canceled, buses are full and delayed, the roads full of traffic. I remember my school few years back didn’t shut for snow and because of that like half of the teachers couldn’t make it in. Same thing in collage, everyone who lived in a different town either didn’t come in or came like 2 hours late, including teachers. Some lessons were canceled because of that.
My my that is nothing, when I was a kid😂 the snow was 6ft high and we were snowed in for days, and still managed to trek to school, where a roaring fire await as water in the CH system froze😊. People need to get a grip, stop being fairy flakes and glossy glitter, and get a shovel and muck in and check on your neighbours!
Yes, if the British arent willing to give back their stolen wealth, then they pay it back in small amounts by supporting those whose countries and lands are ruined as a result of british intervention.
@@beatpeace879 No, he's right. Tax payer money is just going all on migrants in hotels. Millions of them, and counting, in hotels. While the common people/working class have to pay more and more taxes and none of it is going back to us including our infrastructure, the NHS and the roads. Have you seen the state of this country now? We don't seem to be a Western country at all, we're just starting to look like another third world country. Import the third world, become the third world clearly, and it's not like they want to work either because they only come here for the benefits and the free accommodation WE pay for.
Well you "oldies" better prepare the "youngsters" because it's only going to be more. Remember, we're still in autumn, wait until it's January/February, the thick of winter.
God forbid should we experience some real Alaskan or Canadian weather one winter living in a country that stops because a few inches of snow has always been amusing to me tbh
Why school closures with little or in our case no snow in my daysxat school the bus from 8 miles away only failed the journey on 1 day and was never cancelled this was all winters 1944 to 1954 my schooldays thing should have improved instead of worse its ridiculous!!
Honestly, I’d rather drive on Canadian roads than the icy, snowy ones in Ireland or the UK. Narrow roads combined with cars that struggle to stop are a nightmare. Thankfully, Canadian roads are more like those in the U.S. Overall, I’d argue that Canadian roads are generally better maintained and easier to navigate than American ones. Though, even here in Ireland/Northern Ireland, everyone at least tries to get out in bad weather. I remember heading to school, hoping the bus wouldn’t show up since I lived in a rural area and assumed it couldn’t make it. But it did... We ended up sliding back down a narrow road into a tree. Everyone was okay, so it seems like, at least where I live people push through rather than shutting everything down.
"ANOTHER" . What does that even mean. Its winter for crying out loud. Actually delightful to see frost and clear blue skies. Bit of snow lovely. Better than the chem trail crap we had constantly for weeks... What has happened that these news think its such a drama. I do hope their PR reads comments.. Pathetic
So parents can be fined for taking their children out of school, yet schools can just shut their doors over a bit of snow? Country is absolutley on its arse!
I lived in UK for almost 20 years and I always found it hillarious how destructive a half inch of snow could be to London. Moved back to Poland where sometimes you can have half a meter of snow over night; no problem.
Every year it seems like we've never had snow before. It was freezing years ago when I was small mid 60's. No central heating coal fire outside toilets. Had to walk in the snow, wind, rain or ice, sleet to go shopping , go to work, or school. And we didnt have big puffer jackets. Why does it seem such a shock now?
it snowed here today for about one hour, this morning....And no the world didn't stop. People got on with doing what they had to do. Its over hyped BS. Its cold, but the sun is shinning. Its November FCOL.
And from what years of winters was this cobbled up from ? When i was growing up outside Manchester in the 60s , we had snow deeper than that . Country has gone soft now , everyone managed to get about and go to work and school . My dad cycled to the factory 3miles away from home . Roads were always open , the councils don't employ enough workforce now and ill prepared, also ignoring the warnings
When I was a kid in the 60s, I remember playing in snow that was at least 5-6ft deep. And the weather was much colder, There all scared of a bit of snow,
In my days snow was no problem, never missed school, if we were cold told to put another jumper on, cleared our paths and causeway in front of the house, everyone did their bit, don't remember ever slipping and falling, just wellington burn's round our legs. But them days we were healthy and strong, robust kids.
Always such a fuss about snow here because it doesn’t snow often enough to have lots of snow ploughs and tyres for snow yet Canada and other countries cope with way more it’s normal for them

I’m confused… it doesn’t snow in England or what? It’s just a light dusting. You would have to have over a foot of snow to shut down any Canadian city and even then in many cases it might not.
Nice sunny day in Oxford it was, a bit cold though.. hard to call Autumn a "season" these days.. seems to last a week or two.. apparently this is global warming for us.. All the old smog kept the heat in better I think.
If only each county grit there own road from landend to Scotland nothings could stop us but fines them if they didnt because without each county join together and helping each other England road stand still ? Totally agree - this must seem like satire to anyone merrily living their lives somewhere cold.
