Oooo! She's SO good! Love this speech and she manages to make it dramatic but still get the "flatness of misery" and depression she mentions later. So much is held in so tightly and only spills out through that strain in her voice and that tear. Top performance TF. Bloody brilliant.
Sir, spare your threats: The bug which you would fright me with I seek. To me can life be no commodity: The crown and comfort of my life, your favour, I do give lost; for I do feel it gone, But know not how it went. My second joy And first-fruits of my body, from his presence I am barr'd, like one infectious. My third comfort Starr'd most unluckily, is from my breast, The innocent milk in its most innocent mouth, Haled out to murder: myself on every post Proclaimed a strumpet: with immodest hatred The child-bed privilege denied, which 'longs To women of all fashion; lastly, hurried Here to this place, i' the open air, before I have got strength of limit. Now, my liege, Tell me what blessings I have here alive, That I should fear to die? Therefore proceed. But yet hear this: mistake me not; no life, I prize it not a straw, but for mine honour, Which I would free, if I shall be condemn'd Upon surmises, all proofs sleeping else But what your jealousies awake, I tell you "Tis rigor and not law. Your honours all, 1 do refer me to the oracle: Apollo be my judge!
I saw this live at the RSC recently - Hermione and Leontes are great, Camillo as well sticks out - but I'm sorry, what was with the hand sucking - however, Paulina couldn't be bothered to make a choice, it's really lame for a Lucy Bailey production (just check reviews, they're not so hot on it) I couldn't hear the Polixones (and I was in the Stall first row right by the stage) and most of the actors were difficult to hear. Vocal coaching is needed.

One of the best RSC productions of the last 20 years, and yet no dvd....an outrage!
Agree!!!
I have to perform Hermione's monologue for my drama class. After watching this I am kind of excited!

When has Tara Fitzgerald not been superb?
Antony S. is rolling...
Of all of Shakespeare's adultery claims, I think Leontes' is the most pathetic. Still a wonderful performance.

Whoa
can you please post her other mononlogue? "since what i am to say must be but that which contradicts my accusation"....
If it's not uploaded then it's unlikely we have it. At this point we would generally only film a scene.
where can i watch this full play?
Ok, but I reckon she was at it with Polixenes anyway (oracle or no oracle).
oooof go OFF
