In this video, I introduce you to the DAKODER, my 2002 Dodge Dakota RCSB with a factory V8 and manual transmission! We build a gnarly custom true-dual exhaust and add some bolt-ons before testing its quarter mile time against the Dakota R/T, its well-known counterpart!
DISCLAIMER: All action filmed in Mexico on closed courses using professionals, edited with AI and CGI. Please do not attempt anything I do.
Love you all!
Tom, I'll never forget this truck. The Decoder is the truck we went on our first date in. It's where we did more than "hand stuff." It's where I learned about your birth mark. In a way you could say...... it decoded the firewall that you had put up around your heart.
Ps. The restraining order still applies. Please stop sending your Uncle Terry and I feet pics.
It only gets harder 🫣
😭

Would you be willing to forward those feet pics?? Asking for a friend of course... 😂
10 year statute of limitations is over its all fair game!! See you under the bleachers at our favorite park modnight boo 😒 💜
My dad has a 2002 Dakota R/T Never see these trucks get any love so it's nice to see a video on it
This vid was for me. Had 3 of these with varying engines. All manuals. I will call it now the 4.7 is going to fail with 3rd gear. It starts slow with higher temps. The other engines are hard to kill. Love these trucks.
I got the 3.9v6 auto in the 4x4 single cab and i love it but i wish i had more power lol. It costs me nothing to own so i may just keep it till i have enough money to do a nice 5.9 charger swap or a diesel swap
Had the 4.7 H O in a 01 limited grand Cherokee, for a jeep she scooted but it was short lasted😂
Picked up a 97 Dakota with the 5.2 in it last week, love it🔥
Hell yeah dude, I have one with a 5 speed and a 318 in it. It’s the best truck ever made.
I just picked up my first 5.2l Dakota last week too. Its a 94 and automatic, for now😏
old guy came into my work with one of these, asked if he would sell it, he said "its all i have" and i responded "..5k"
did you buy it?
😂😂😂
Worth more than 5k tho...
Hey I got one id sell ya, where ya located?
Not around here 😂 @@salvadoremarinaro6350
You’re a very talented driver man, they’re just tough! I beat mine every single day, and I’ve found lifting the shifter up to third instead of shoving it is faster and almost go toward the glovebox more. The shift pattern is wiiiide! Love your vids man keep doing what you do!
Dakotas are slept on and my favorite and first vehicle
I have a set of 4.7 H.O. cams out of an 04 Grand Cherokee I’d be willing send. Direct bolt in, don’t need to upgrade valve springs but it’s recommended. No added lift, only more duration and they’re good for around 30 extra hp. Can also be reground possibly, Crower used to make hot cams for 4.7s but stopped
TOM I just purchased a truck with the NV3500 and someone swapped the V8 5.3L into it, it’s a 2001 Chevy step side short bed single cab 5 speed truly a one of a kind
I'm a Chevy fan only, but not bad, that Hemi V8 sounds FIRE!!! Keep it up, man!!!!
I wonder what his neighbors think of all the loud noises 🤣🤣🤣
They are exactly like a Ram-1500 I've got a 6 cylinder in mine and will be installing a new exhaust system in the summer can't wait for the grumble
Very nice. I have an 04 Dakota that has been ls swapped with a t56. The thing is a little rocket.
Flowmaster Hushpowers would be nice to help with the drone. Very nice setup love the xpipe.
18:14 "granny shiftin not double clutchin like ya should"
I had a 98 r/t club cab in deep amethyst. My truck was 1/91 with my options. I miss that truck.
I had one of these trucks back in high school. Once i graduated in 07 i built it into a 383 stroker. That thing could MOVE! Unfortunately, i wrecked it and totaled it. I still miss that ruck to this day
I am so happy to say I’m not the only one using all thread as an exhaust hanger extension 🙌
I had a bright yellow R/T back in the late 90’s. The auto sucked but man was it a burn out machine and a blast to swing around a parking lot, lol!!
I screwed up n put a 429 in one of those.now I have pins n bolts in my leg.was really fun while it lasted
i waited to long without realizing for this video to start
Tom is like that neighbor kid that your parents say is a bad influence😂
I'm a big gear head but watching you blasted is the best thing known to man..
Love your channel. If you built some turbo kit projects, that might be some even more awesome content! You're extremely talented at everything and always do exhaust/fab/welding/engine building, so I'm sure it'd be some serious fun! Thanks for the killer content!!
I have same truck but a red extra cab. Same motor and transmission. You do excellent work I would pay you to do my exhaust, if we lived closer.
Same thing for my s10, i beat that truck to pieces😂. 4.3 V6 5 speed manual. Blew it up, had lots of issues. Miss it sometimes.
This is how I escape from my life, I watch Toms refurb in the bathroom and hide from my wife
The Beginning of the Video is Awesome 👍😎
YOOO TOM I WAS THE KID THAT CAME UP TO YOU WHEN YOU WERE GETTING IN A CECIL COUNTY DRAG STRIP LOVE UOU THE VID WAS FIRE
Toms been locked in on these consistent Friday uploads
The 4.7 is shockingly similar to a 4.6.
They made spacers to swap 4.6 intake manifolds on a 4.7.
the dakota is a mid size truck i have all 3 generations of them my favorite is my 94 5.2 with 390 stroker kit 2nd would be my 2002 R/T the 3rd gen is my daily & work truck..the D50 was dodge's mini truck
Love it I had an slt 4.7 awd auto quad cab was awesome. Exhaust leak off manifolds. If I remember correctly 4.7 is an “improved” version of 5.2 318 which made around 230 hp and the 4.7 put out 265 the 5.9 was only 230
Improved as a pile of junk compared to a 318 and the 360 ones had 250 hp.
used to love sliding mines definitely miss it !!
I can vouch for Tom the 3rd gear nv3500 bang shift has to be right next to the clit it is simply impossible
Are the speedy snaps reversible or do you have to install them in a certain orientation?
I just so happen to be trying to sell my 99 Dakota RT...with it having the full RT package and your building skills....it could somehow have that nv3500 in it, orrrrrr you could take the RT package and make the sport an RT/Sport :D
Would those tuners work for civics as well?
i got a 2002 single cab ram 3rd gen with a tuned 5.9 magnum there fun cars
I love the two sided three sized beer/cup holders…way to look out dodge
This man is so rich he bought a tiger just to shoot an intro. Baller
Things a beast!
WOAH WOAH WOAH WHAT IS THIS WHIMSICAL ASS INTRO I LOVE IT 😂
If I'm not mistaken the R/T Stands for Ret@rted Truck
tommy has posted 😊
Put a hellcat motor in it @Tom’s refurb
Honestly thought you were gonna blow the trans again with the amount of money shifts youve done
Hell yea bro clean truck to bro I miss a noisecomplant video man
Should get a transmission off a Charger or a Challenger, and put it in the Dakota. I have a feeling that the current trans is gonna die soon.
The dodge Dakota was never small and has never been small, my gen 1 my uncle's gen 1 and my cousin's gen 2 which you got are mid size. Gen 3 is even bigger, now you want compact in the same class as a ranger or s10 but for dodge well you gotta go further back to when dodge made the d50. The d50 was the only compact truck dodge made,, ever lol
Can you even shift bro 😂😂
Tom must 1. Be constantly scrolling on marketplace and 2. Live in a small world
How much would it cost to build this exhaust? My stock exhaust is rotting off my dakota and been wanting side pipes bad.
Awesome episode! Thanks Tom 🤘😝👍
My brother has one cool truck for sure
Favorite UA-camr💯
Double clutch 3rd buddy
X pipe with a boom tube?👀
Where did you get those rims?
cam it an make it chop👀
Lighter flywheel
I love you too tom!
i love you thomas.
I’ll be manual swapping my first gen Dakota soon🫡 aka burnout machine
Bro made a whole ass movie for the intro again
Usual tom
An I am all for it 😁
Man look at this man guys he didnt let us down. He posted the AD for speedys but still posted an actual video for us! Thanks Tom we appreciate you
Had a 4.7 Dakota for 8 years. That hood slam brought back nostalgia😂
Yeah 4.7 gang🤘
I was like "that's a nice shot of those deer" and then the freaking tiger pops up 😂😅
Bro money shifted so many times that when he finally got into third and the applause played, I thought it was the sound of him missing the shift and blowing up his gears.
One time while I was out on a nature walk I saw Tom coming out of the woods with a grizzly bear on his back and a bloody knife in his other hand. He really loves the woods.
GOD DAMN ITS GOOD TO BE A TOM'S REFURB FAN! GOD BLESS
REFURBIA...FUCK YEAH!
I'm proud to be a refurbian 🇺🇲
Amen
Amen brotha
How can u use God's name in vain ? Then say God bless ? Wow 😮
In 2002-03 my grandfather had a silver quad cab 4.7/5 spd sport. Was a badass truck back then. For a guy in his mid 70s we had a blast in that truck.
That was a factory option for sure my dad had. 4.7 with the 5 speed I loved that truck
Calling a Dodge Dakota a mini truck is absurd... here in Brazil it's a medium to large truck. 🤣🤣🤣
nother funny detail, in Brazil the R/T version came with the 316 5.2 V8 engine, without the cool wheels, nor the rear view mirrors or sport bumpers, it never came with the 360 5.9 engine, only the Jeep Cherokee ZJ Limited came with the 360 5.9. 😑😑
@@AutoWernckethat’s crazy to consider over here in the US it’s actually pretty common to see V8 dakotas with the 4.7, 5.2 and the 5.9s.
@@Thisappaintreal So, we only received the Dakota with the 3.9 V6 and 5.2 V8 engine, and in the case of the Cherokee, only the WJ came with the 4.7 V8 engine.
However, it's strange, because there were some Durangos that came with the 4.7 v8.
I had a level 3A fully armored Durango. with the 4.7 engine, jezus how slow this car was due to the extra weight, and stopping it was another big problem hahaha
@@Thisappaintreal Mine was a black Durango SLT 2000. It had around 700lbs of 3A armor. I loved that car, No one tried to get in front of it, And the weight of the doors when closing could easily break a leg or arm.
@@AutoWerncke that sounds like quite the rig man. I remember when I had a Durango for about 3 hours, put it in a ditch and hadn’t even called for insurance on it yet. Left that truck there 😂
Tom Mentioned The 2V mustang, You should Make a video making a 2V Mustang awesome, (Preferably a New edge)
So when is the hellcat swap and TR6060 coming?
My 98 sport was a 5.2 with the NV3500HD.
It’s now a 390 stroker, Torqstorm supercharger, 650 hp, ladder bars, roll cage, kirkeys lol. Never ends…
Got some times for us? I'm guessing 10's.
@@izzyplusplusplus1004 haven’t had it back to the track yet with the procharger.
N/A with 10:1 cr, it went 12.57 @107 mph. 3500 lb truck and I’m 220…
@@frankensteincreations4740 Sounds like some ten's might be in your future!
damn
Man you gotta make a noise complaint video I love that car
That 2 - 3 shift was playin some mental games on my man Tom 🤣
that shit be goofy stock, let alone burlin it
I hate to admit it but ain't nothin colder than a Dodge Dakota ... I have a 00 quad cab with the 5.9 and it has no business being that fun to drive
I had a 98 club cab and my dad had a 99. They weren’t the most powerful things on the road but they certainly left some patches.
I have a 99 Dakota Sport 4x4 in Intense Pearl Blue that had the 318 but recently swapped in a 360 from a ‘00 Ram 1500, such a fun truck!
Nice! is it a 5 speed? I have a 01 qc 5 speed 4.7. Not the fastest but definitely fun!
@@projectdirtbikes no it's automatic but it was a rare build as far as I know they only put the 5.9 in quad cabs in 2000 not fast but she rips
I'm not a truck or American muscle guy at all, but damn do I get hyped when I see a new Tom upload
Then what are you into? Please don't say euro cars.....
Im not either… ive really been coming around to them after watching tom though

Tom you are definitely my favorite car UA-camr. Thank you for all the laughs and great builds.
just got on my 30 minute break, this is perfect timing 😂
I’m so glad you bought this truck back. Makes me really want to hemi swap my manual rcsb Dakota
I ordered one of these new in 2000. Wanted the V8 but they were very hard to get so I settled for a 5spd v6 magnum.
These original 5spd v8 trucks are stupid rare.
Oh....and I never missed a gear in mine😂
They’re easy to swap a manual in. The 4.7 is a pile of dogshit tho. The 318 is the one you want. The 360 ones are super expensive now.
@@jonkern2325i got a single cab 4x4 with the 3.9v6 auto, i want more power but dont have 15k to spend. Whats the best bang for buck build?
I was looking at them for a little bit, V8 manual single cab dakotas are very hard to find though.
Dakotas are my favorite truck
I own a single cab Dakota! And I love that you’re featuring These trucks man! I’d say the S-10, The Ranger and The Dakota are the holy trinity of the greatest mini trucks ever built of all time. Mostly reliable and fun as hell to drive!!!
Nissan Hardbody, Toyota sr5, and the mazda b series are all pretty awesome. I have had all 3.
@izzyplusplusplus1004 the B series is a Ranger though.
@@aperson4713 The last 1 generation, yes but not the more liked older generations
Same! I've always said the smaller trucks are so much more reliable than the full sized trucks and more fun to drive! The Dakota has always been my favorite out of the 3. Mainly cuz you don't see people doing much with them all that much. I see lots of s-10s and rangers but hardly any Dakota's. Everyone I talk to say they wouldn't want one but I try to tell them you find one with a 5speed and they are damn near bullet proof lol
@@aperson4713 in later models yes, but before the merger.
I might get me two speedy snaps for my 1987 BMW e30 325i when I make my exhaust not sure yet tho.
Tom posted twice in one day 😮
I can’t believe it
I have respect for anyone that puts old school chevy rallys on something. Good work, little brother. Also, my dad and I have 6 Dakotas (all V8s, 1 318 4x4, 1 360 4x4) and 2 Rams (1 Hemi, 1 4.7 with a 6 speed stick) between the two of us. They are all good trucks
My buddy had a 94 Dakota with a v8 but it was a 318 but It moved pretty fast for a 90s truck lol but he flipped it on it’s lid
I wish the 4.7 had more aftermarket support 😅,I had a jeep grand Cherokee 04 with the 4.7 and I love the torque and sound from it .
Out of all mf's that act like whistlindiesel, you pull it the best😂
My first truck was a 2000 318 Dakota, I've always wanted another!
Now I’m gonna be honest. Great runs and all but wherever you got 15.2 from is absurd. My daily is a 2000 Dakota R/T and it’s catless with headers and an intake manifold and runs 14.5, but even stock it ran 15.0 at 99😂😂
I bought a brand new 1999 dakota sport. Short bed regular cab,5.2l 5 speed manual and a 3.90 posi rear. I use to beat the RT in a race.
Time to throw an 08 and up 4.7 HO intake manifold on it, and larger throttle body. Those 4.7 HO are rated at 305HP.
HO cam and manifold will wake it up and be dirt cheap from your local pick-n-pull.
I owned a 1996 Dodge Dakota SLT, had the 3.9 V6, auto transmission, and extended cab. That truck was good to me.
Did somebody say minitrucks??
I have the same thing but 99 5.2 5 speed its a fun truck!
That Intro so out of place on this channel I thought it was an ad.
