  • In this video I go over how to create and install a Ubuntu VM on Proxmox and how to backup said VM to TrueNAS using NFS. There are other ways to achieve the same goal that we may go over in the future, but this is how I have chosen to set it up.

Looks like it couldn’t shutdown because you didn’t install the qemu-guest-agent. Even though you told the build it was enabled.

Yeah I was supposed to have gone back and showed installing it, I said I was I had just forgotten to show it, I will pin this encase someone runs into it. Part of being new to recording videos I have had a few mistakes like this where I have said I will come back to something and then forgot to record it and in editing not catching the issue. Thanks for the feedback! I did not catch it during editing.
      The command would be:
      sudo apt install qemu-guest-agent

These videos are exactly what I was looking for. So many people out there show the tools, software, hardware etc. and never do tutorials. I have only had a VirtualBox setup for testing and would like to setup proxmox, truenas, docker, portainer and other at home to practice since we have those at work. I'd like to setup a lab like this to get Sys admin skills. Thank you! I need to get out of helpdesk I can't stay here forever lol. Thank you!

Thank you!! That was the problem I was having when I first got started. I also can not stand when people don't test their videos before releasing them. I have found so many tutorials the need some other thing set up first and then tell you to just Google how to do it, like dude I came here for that lol.

Nice video. Quick question: why install truenas and proxmox on separate boot drives instead of running Truenas as a VM through proxmox. I'm fairly new to this and most people I've seen run it as a VM. What are the pros and cons of doing it your way compared to a vm?

Hi! I get this error message on proxmox, while I'm trying to add the NFS share: "
create storage failed: mount error: mount.nfs: mount system call failed (500)"
    What can I do?

    Hi there Perkelator!
You’re doing an awesome job! I discovered your channel and now I’m starting my homelab based on your videos! I have a request if you may: can you make a video explaining remote share between proxmox and truenas for storing torrents downloaded through sonarr and radar? Like from the ubuntu server on proxmox but stored on the truenas server?

Great to hear I have inspired you to take the first step to get started with is amazing hobby! This is a video I want to do. It may be broken into 2 videos one where I go over TrueNAS shares on Proxmox and how to share only the data not an entire VM and one that will cover sonarr and radarr as well as setting up the shares. I would like ever video to be standalone. So I will have to cover content more than once, but it should make the videos self contained. The shares video I am thinking of Using WikiJS as the service, but it should be pretty universal and work with really any service. The video is still being planned, so I am not sure a time line of when it will be out. The next video planned is exposing your homelab, if you should or shouldn't and a few ways to do so. The first few videos were done all but recorded before I uploaded the first one.

I have Truenas running under a proxomox VM. I when I try to mount an NFS share from truenas back to the hypervisor it runs under, my hypervisor seems to lockup when I try to move files to the NFS share. It is only the "mv" command that has this behavior. Any clues?

Do you have the drives passed through to the Truenas VM? I have seen some issues with running any NAS as a VM without having the disk or sata controller passed though entirely.
