Rhythm Guitar - The Need for Ultimate Precision

- Rhythm guitarists are often viewed as inferior beings in a band, the glory instead going to the lead guitarist...
However, it is of paramount importance that a rhythm guitarist is absolutely “on it” when it comes to rhythmic delineation. There’s nothing more obvious and out of place as a rhythm guitarist who is out of time: it sticks out like a sore thumb.
Here then is a take on it, and the development of a rhythmic drive, using GarageBand for iOS as a practice aid. Anyone with an iPhone or iPad can take advantage of this, though Google also offer drum rhythms for practice: type in drum rhythm xxx bpm, and something will come up on the search.
This isn’t just about soul or funk music- rock and pop and everything else needs the same rhythmic precision to fully back up the vocals or top line.

Even as a bassist I can appreciate this exercise and concept.
Excellent! Thanks. I did a bass guitar video a couple of days ago. - you’ll find it on my channel...
Enjoyed that, thanks Dan
This was a great lesson, Dan. I still rely on my collection of wind-up metronomes, but I like what you use. Kyle's got a lot of cool tricks. But Kyle doesn't know how to mug for the camera like you can!
Ha! Excellent. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic lesson! You just saved me 500$, I don’t need to by the Beat Buddy now! I’ve got a perfectly good iPad! I’ll try to make those faces too to see if it helps 😉…Cheers
Ha! Ace! Glad you like it and glad I saved you a ton of money!
You get a great tone from that Strat. You really got a feel for funk and reggae. Only Kyle can do 50 bpm with out a hi-hat.
Cheers Sean! Ha. Yes - Kyle does groove whatever the tempo...
❤️
My metronome also listened and said ashamed: Who is this guy? I got to learn from him!
Cheers!
