      Exuberant titan Thanks for finding the videos to be so engaging. Yes, I shall try my level best, and upload more and more videos (GI reflexes and others) as and when the students demand those topics. And , with greater frequency too.
      Thanks again,
      Regards,

    Sir why breathing in pure O2 does not give 100% haemoglobin saturation at all altitudes?

    • @VivekSirsPhysiology
      @VivekSirsPhysiology  3 роки тому +1

      Consider oxygen to be a continuuum - from air, to respiratory passage, to lungs, and finally blood, where it first dissolves in plasma and the enters the RBC to saturate the Hb. In hypoxic conditions, such as at high altitudes, the low PO2 of atmospheric air would cause a lower amount of O2 (and hence lower PO2) in plasma. So, when 100% O2 is inhaled and it goes to alveoli, there will be a large PO2 gradient from alveolus to plasma. Hence, it will diffuse rapidly and reach equilibrium from alveoli to plasma (dissolved O2). This will provide O2 with lesser time to enter red cells and saturate Hb. So, Hb saturation may not be complete. [Anyway, maximum saturation of Hb can be up to 97%, as some forms of Hb do not take up O2.]
