They train for ~1-8 years and the company puts some trainees together to form a group. There are some circumstances when the members are picked out by another trainee (like stray kids) but that’s really rare. Btw, being a trainee is really hard. They need to pass monthly evaluation where they show the progress of their singing/rapping and dancing skills. And if the company thinks you didn’t make progress you get kicked out.

Trainees within a company train their whole lives without knowing whether they’ll debut or not. There is also like a grading/scoring system and monthly evaluations… if u don’t meet the higher ups’ expectations, higher the chance of not debuting or getting kicked out. It’s quite harsh especially to most companies in the industry. This is why ppl get the impression of the industry being “manufactured”. In the case of blackpink, they do face this system.

The kpop industry runs like an education system. To be a trainee… some get scouted, some applied, some auditioned. Trainees within a company train their whole lives without knowing whether they’ll debut or not. There is also like a grading/scoring system and monthly evaluations… if u don’t meet the higher ups’ expectations, higher the chance of not debuting or getting kicked out. It’s quite harsh especially to most companies in the industry. This is why ppl get the impression of the industry being “manufactured”. In the case of blackpink, they do face this system.
