@@pickl_eric_k In terms of families, they still like the movies. As plotless are they’ve become, they’re still silly, goofy, charming and funny for many. That’s why they’re still making money and get “A”s on CinemaScore.
In the second film’s defense, unlike the other sequels that followed, the Minions actually had a relevant reason to be a major plot point as the main villain was stealing them to use the stolen mutagen on them to transform them into twisted, monstrous versions of themselves to cause chaos on the world and be an unstoppable force since the mutagen made them indestructible and initially wanted Gru to team up with him. Plus, the second film had focus on Gru’s family in him finding a wife to be a mother to the gorls to give him an additional helping hand.

I loved the first two despicable me films. I really enjoyed 3, even though it may not be innovative in terms of writing. I like minions a lot, minions the rise of Gru was a well-written and entertaining prequel, and despicable me four, while it had good parts felt like it was missing something really important. It was missing the dynamic between Gru and his family. They sidelined all that so he could have a new relationship with a baby character that the audience has no emotional attachment to. They had a villain character who’s supposed to be a menacing threat from Gru’s past. One of the awesome parts of despicable me is that even though Gru went good, he’s still doing despicable things but in the side of good( ish). Like blowing up a carnival stand to get a unicorn toy for his girls. And yet while I really wanted to enjoy 4, and I like a few of the scenes, it just doesn’t feel like a despicable me film. There weren’t really any cool gadgets, there wasn’t really much emotional development, and the villain wasn’t entertaining. So, yeah, I liked it. Come to think about it. I’m more tired of Despicable Me more than Toy Story, since there’s not much to go with other than Minions, should have ended after the second movie. Plus compared to Pixar, they always relied on their one IP even more is pretty absurd.
Honestly, if they REALLY Want to continue the franchise, they NEED To hire new writers, then change the name from "Despicable Me" to something else, because I do NOT Understand WHY Despicable Me is even called "Despicable Me," if Gru isn't even despicable anymore...
I remember when the first one came out. My dad, sister and me were seeing Toy Story 3 in the theaters and there were a lot of trailers for Despicable Me. I was curious about the film and got the DVD later that winter and loved it. They honestly should have ended the series after the second or third one.
You gotta rewatch Despicable Me again because the movie is not about how Gru wasn't ever sucessful, it shows that he isn't doing anything great in villany recently... All movies mentions how good he WAS. Minions movies makes sense. Illumination can be pretty bad, but they write good stories for Gru. Despicable me 3 shows Gru's life is in a "steady phase", but still showing Gru still isn't the best guy out there(not being able to catch villains while working for avl). And then Dru showing up explains why his mother was so bad to him, and also shows that even his brother having everything on his hands wasn't perfect either. And Despicable Me 4 is just another extension of the "steady phase", and since they wanted to "simpsonize" the family, making them never grow up, I guess all movies from now on will just be that steady phase with a few changes for action... I liked the 4 movie a lot, dad Gru is really nice, tho I wish Dru still had the minions. What Illumination is doing is writting a bad story for the minions, since they wouldn't stick for a non-villain guy.
Here’s a tutorial. How to ruin your Subaru legacy Step one: buy a Subaru legacy Step two: make sure it is functional (optional) Step three: find a way to destroy it (examples: hammer, crash into tree, fire, water, cliff, rock.) Step four: Enjoy your new destroyed Subaru legacy!
I have been thinking about this for a while. Anytime a new movie arises, I am upset at what has become of something I once was so excited about. I watched Despicable me 1 as a kid with my mom and was excited when the second movie came out. I think there I still liked it, but the minions' movie was rather boring, the third movie didn't add much and was just a parody of another movie with spies and them being siblings. Didn't even bother to watch the fourth. I miss the part, where Despicable me was about someone who was actually despicable and yet found himself in a new role. I love those kinds of stories, where the character has gone a good while, living their life as they wanted and yet, they feel empty and as they try to go bigger in their own way, they find something new, and it becomes clear quite soon, that what they wanted before, is not was they need. What upsets me the most, is that many additions are only made because they have no idea what else to do, and not because they are actually necessary. I hate that the girls have become even less significant than the minions. The minions have half the screen time and also two movies. The girls have one movie where they have a major role, the next three have them in there, because they have to be there, not because there is any significant role they play.
I did like comment and I've been subscribed for awhile I'm a little late to the video because I slept for 12 hours 🎉🎉🎉🎉 happy birthday enchanted channel🎉🎉🎉🎉 I hear the music 😊
Something that really bothered me is that, in the third movie, a big part of the movie wad Gru meeting his twin brother who was seperated at birth. But in the 4th movie, he has no relevance at all. It makes the 3rd movie seem really obsolete. The 4th movie was all sorts of chaos with so many things happening that held little inportance. The amount of different pointless POVs they introduced got kind of annoying. The pacing also just felt really weird, like they spent a lot of time in some scenes and others had a bunch of different things happening at once.
Everybody is hating on the movie and I don't understand I mean yes Maximé was pretty lazy and was not a good villain but the movie was still enjoyable.

I guess this is what happens when a franchise goes on longer than it was probably intended to…
The Boys content would truely be cool, amazing video btw
Honestly, if they REALLY Want to continue the franchise, they NEED To hire new writers, then change the name from "Despicable Me" to something else, because I do NOT Understand WHY Despicable Me is even called "Despicable Me," if Gru isn't even despicable anymore...
Happy birthday to the channels
the commentary channels finna put black bars on everyones face like wtf😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Maybe, there should be a special role in the writing team where some writers try to find plot holes in the new installments. Do those already exist?
happy 4 year anniversary dude
Every sequel is despicable
I really liked the video! Also I'd love to see you make a video on how Despicable Me 4 could have been better.
I remember when the first one came out. My dad, sister and me were seeing Toy Story 3 in the theaters and there were a lot of trailers for Despicable Me. I was curious about the film and got the DVD later that winter and loved it.
They honestly should have ended the series after the second or third one.
They have a set of movies made for the minions why do they keep trying to make them the centre of attention in gru’s movies
Illuminations need to hire better writers 😔🙏
Nice essay and perspective. You made some good points about his development for the character 🙂👍
I gotta say the newer DM movies are yet to GRU on me
You gotta rewatch Despicable Me again because the movie is not about how Gru wasn't ever sucessful, it shows that he isn't doing anything great in villany recently...
Damn.
Dru is taking notes.
It all went doenhill after despicable me 2 that’s what I noticed
Happe birthday enchanted! :]]
What about the Anti-Villain League as they feel like they become it’s version of Shield and then they were in Rise of Gru
Gru canonically having sex and getting someone pregnant will always be cursed to me..
He was Gru-cified
Here’s a tutorial. How to ruin your Subaru legacy
Step one: buy a Subaru legacy
Step two: make sure it is functional (optional)
Step three: find a way to destroy it (examples: hammer, crash into tree, fire, water, cliff, rock.)
Step four: Enjoy your new destroyed Subaru legacy!
Despicable me 4 is probably the last and to me the execution to it is spectacular
The girls have one movie where they have a major role, the next three have them in there, because they have to be there, not because there is any significant role they play.
their also making minions 3 in 2027
LOVE THESE VIDS
Bro when a kids movie:
Cant believe despicable me is about Gru turning into Fred
Knowing what the franchise has become I wish the first movie flopped.
The best video documentary ever❤🎉🎉🎉
It’s illuminover
not to mention that in the 4th movie the og 3 minions weren’t there
MY LEGACY WAS NOT RUINED, YOU LIER!!
Gru out here tryna save his reputation.
The writers were not allowed to make a great story.
I think just Shrek3 is just the same quality in despicable me 3 and 4 but Shrek 4 is okay and now I am worried about Shrek 5 now
ig but I liked despicable me 3 tbh
I just pretend the other movies don't exist.
Does this include the second film, the ONLY Despicable Me film that has some form of justification to exist outside of the first film?
I like this video, however Gru wasn't the first childhood character to be Flanderised, you should make vids on them too
I did like comment and I've been subscribed for awhile
I'm a little late to the video because I slept for 12 hours
🎉🎉🎉🎉 happy birthday enchanted channel🎉🎉🎉🎉

“Anything you want”
Something that really bothered me is that, in the third movie, a big part of the movie wad Gru meeting his twin brother who was seperated at birth. But in the 4th movie, he has no relevance at all. It makes the 3rd movie seem really obsolete. The 4th movie was all sorts of chaos with so many things happening that held little inportance. The amount of different pointless POVs they introduced got kind of annoying. The pacing also just felt really weird, like they spent a lot of time in some scenes and others had a bunch of different things happening at once.
Great Video! I just subscribed!
Gru's minion choir
Anything you want
I want to make a video on why legacy movies don’t work!
Me when I’m despicable:
Your literally TF2 spy
@@cedrolenon
Freddy Fazbear
Everybody is hating on the movie and I don't understand I mean yes Maximé was pretty lazy and was not a good villain but the movie was still enjoyable.
It’s not the writers fault. It’s Illuminations fault.
Such a difference between the fitst DM compared to the 3rd, they started making it too childish and brainrot with yje annoying minions
