    Instead of using the pattern sequencer or creating midi pattern, create a sequence using the Cycle setting of the XA Control feature of the Montage M.

    Practical application for someone new to Yamaha keyboards is to learn a bunch about how to program their new keyboard in one short video! Thanks! 🙏

    I really enjoy your tutorial videos. Thanks for putting it together. This would work well for Pink Floyd's On The Run.

    Thanks for these videos.
    Can the montage do similar MIDI fx like those in MainStage? For instance I use the multi chord trigger and note repeater per song a lot to free up my hands for other parts
    Also if you had to choose one hardware workstation to perform that can cover any task any genre which one would it be?

    Can the montage m do multiple MIDI chord triggers per patch or performance or setlist?

    Great tutorial, thanks for sharing! Is there any practical difference if you change the Center key for each element instead of coarse? Also, is there any way to reset it, so you can start from element 1 again on the next key press?

    • @narfsounds
      @narfsounds  6 місяців тому

      It's been suggested here in the comments 3 times already, yes that would be the more efficient way to do it rather than change the pitch course.

  • @sonic2000gr
    @sonic2000gr 6 місяців тому

    Very creative way! Just a quick question though, when you copy the elements, could you achieve the same result by changing the center key for each instead of the coarse tune?

      Yes, probably a better solution too!

    Hello, I am writing about a few problems with the Yamaha Montage M.
    1. Why can't I load from another Library into my keyboard? It was fine in the previous Montage.
    2. Why didn't you organize a numerical search of the presets in the set list, and there are numbers on the keys or as abbreviated with "SHIFT" to select a bank/page? Searching banks and pages is terrible, this way we will ruin the keys on the keyboard very quickly.
    3. Why is mono/legato not resolved on awm2, is it so difficult to insert the "Glide" option on portamento. The presets with this one provided by Montage M sound terrible, when I turn on mono/legato and portamento it's terrible as if it skips when I play. Simply put, it's not legato, I don't know what it's supposed to be for.
    4. Option "micro tuning name" by default there is an option "root" (c,d,e,f,g,a,h) on user presets it does not exist, simply turn off that option. Why are you denying us all that?
    Let's face it, the sound is perfect and the rest is really great, but the keyboard costs 4,000e, this is a shame and a shame to make such omissions with so many engineers and the price is huge.

      You’ll have to bring this up with Yamaha, not me. I’m not affiliated with Yamaha nor am I involved with its development nor have any decision making regarding their products. I’m merely a customer and fellow Montage M user.

    Will this technique work on the original MODX? Also if you changed the center key for each element instead of coarse tune would that allow you to play it in different positions to get a different key?

    • @narfsounds
      @narfsounds  6 місяців тому

      Yes it will work on a MODX for up to 8 elements and yes changing the center key is actually the easier way of doing it.

    Hi Narf, which synth do you think makes programming sounds easier for you? The new montage m or the nord stage 4? Best regards

    • @narfsounds
      @narfsounds  4 місяці тому

      It’s easier to program on a Nord because all the parameters have a corresponding dedicated knob,button or slider and a dedicated computer software to facilitate file transfer. It doesn’t have a lot of the functionality available on the Montage. The Nord is easier because it’s simpler. It’s a different category of keyboard and not a 1:1 comparison. Is a Fender P-Bass better than a Gibson Les Paul?

    Hi Francis, can you do the same for Korg Kronos? Wave Seq ? Pattern programming? Step Sequencer? Which one would you use? A walk through would be much appeciated.

    • @narfsounds
      @narfsounds  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes that’s where the idea to do this on the Montage came from. I have an existing WS tutorial for the Kronos just go through my channel’s tutorial playlist

      Wave Sequence when using an HD1 sound, Step Sequencing for sounds using the EXi Engine.

    • @gokhanyurdusev
      @gokhanyurdusev 6 місяців тому

      MAy be a bit technical and not the right place but when using EXI engine I don't get to have Kronos to act like to press on the key everytime the pitch changes. When I do, it changes the pitch ok but acts like it presses the key and never releases it. In other words, it changed the picth while sustaining the key. I want it to pepeat the pressing eachtime the picth changes. I know that it should be very easy and possible yet my knowledge is not enough. Waiting for you to be available for the 1 to 1 online courses BTW :-)@@narfsounds

    I'm actually trying to automate the Motion Sequencer on my Montage M to control the file of an ANX patch, but for the life of me I CANNOT figure it out! 😡
    I've gone through it over and over with the Manual, but when I try it, the Motion Sequencer does absolutely NOTHING. Any thoughts on how to make this work?

    • @narfsounds
      @narfsounds  6 місяців тому

      You first need to select the parameter you want to control then press Control Assign. Then select the MS Lane that you want it to respond to and determine the ratio by which that parameter is affected. Then you program the motion sequence from there.

    • @vanessajazp6341
      @vanessajazp6341 6 місяців тому

      @@narfsounds Thx.
      I worked on it for more than a few hours(!) yesterday trying to get it to work without any success. I ended up assigning the MS to the Super Knob, and that was a struggle in itself.
      It's just a 1-part ANX performance.
      The downloaded user manual (all 500+ pages) was little help.
      Practice will make perfect, eventually. I'll just have to keep adding a motion sequence to every new performance I program until I finally get it.
      It's definitely NOT an intuitive process.

    • @narfsounds
      @narfsounds  6 місяців тому

      That's half of it. The MS lane itself needs to be assigned to a parameter via control assign.
