In cinema history, this film would serve as the closing curtain for "film noir". This gem has the cast, the plot, the hubris, the deceit, and the "City by the Bay". Nice to visit my hometown....Telegraph Hill....Chinatown....and the Embarcadero and Washington....thank you for archiving and posting.
It also has Howard Duff. Not exactly Bogie.

Nevr could figure Duff and Lupino. Wonders nevr cease. Thus was a gr8 flick. Ther wil always b ppl who wil sacrifice their soul for $. Playing both sides is only a matter of time 💀
The Classic film noir cycle ended in the late 50's.
The final curtain would be Touch of Evil in 1958
Really fun movie. The world is full of Jacks. Nice to see such a well-made film about one finally getting what he deserves!
Jack is a total scumbag.
I saw this movie for the first time today and it happens to be Anne Vernon's birthday! She turned 100!
Oh, the irony of David's (Bruce Bennett) speech to Jack about his ruining "the integrity of journalism."
These days, try and find one of 'em who doesn't make Jack look like Jimmy Olsen.
One of my Best movie story ever, watched several times because when Greediness Hug someone the Result Comes out this Way. Very Commendable and a Great Lesson for All ❤❤❤
Many recognized faces in this gem! Noir at it's finest. 👏 Thank you!
What an incredibly good watch. It's definitely a wonderfully made movie.
HINT: this reminds me of a much more recent movie with jake gyllanhall....same theme...rogue photogger will do ANYTHING to get a picture...the guy who plays the boss in this older movie is the same guy who played the husband in Mildred Pierce movie...solid actor...
Great picture
A perfect portrayal, of a perfect scumbag
What a repulsive greedy jerk.
Yes, he insulted the lady when she has to began as a housewife.😒
Another gem with exquisite facets. Thank you.
Wow! A really fine movie. A stellar cast. Lawrence Tierney, Howard Duff and Peggy Dow!! I truly hated for this movie to end. However I was disappointed that a pooka named Harvey never appeared.
Loved the movie.,,, Peggy Dow stole the show for me…
Great storyline and good acting! Bruce Bennett as the editor was also Mildred Pierce's husband! a newer version of the same storyline stars Jake gyllanhall ...check it out.
Not gonna lie, I watch these movies to see the way ladies dress. Do I ever miss the days when class was a way of life for women.
Now it's tattoos.
I like to see the way all the people looked and behaved back then. It was a much better world back then. Far from perfect, but better than the POS world we have now.
@@pinkbeautytwinkle and nose rings
It was very sharp back then. When I worked in NYC in the 70's I dressed very sharp. But it didn't last long. I love playing in the dirt on my little farm. And I watch the world go by on UA-cam.
@@pinkbeautytwinkle The words “class” and “tattoos”, no way they mix. In near 72 years I’ve seen 1 tat I liked on a young Marine about 4 years ago. 4 years in the Corps and never saw any I would put on me and today’s are even worse. But, being a classic ‘52 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn model, I’m not putting crap bumper stickers on myself. Don’t want to depreciate my wife’s arm candy!😂
Hard to believe such a good decent woman couldn't see through this guy
Enjoyed this film noir. They deliver the best dialogue.
Absolutely marvellous. Jack's character was a narcissistic sewer rat but he played it really well; I loathed and despised him. Xxx Thank you. Xx❤
I agree, haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! Rob has the best movies, period!!!!
A young Rock Hudson as doorman
I liked Peggy Dow and her dress ensemble. I think the stripe blouse would look great even in todays world.
Sure....I however, was just admiring her cuteness.
Me too...more attractive to me than the "bigger" stars and should have been in more movies of that era. @@fuzzfacelogic789
Greed and the Love of money is the root of all evil.
Thanks for getting that biblical quote correct, many don't.
and women I might add
Rob!!!! I just watched this.....very, very good. He is one of the goodies and the cast and plot were great!!!! Thanx hon!!!!
Loved it and thank you! What an absolute vile specimen, hubris on another level. I wonder how many people can actually see themselves in Jack! 💜🇬🇧
Mental illness
Those who should see themselves in him won't. Some will think he was gypped out of the final take.
Well said.
Excellent. They don't do them like that anymore.
Once again; the power of photography exerts itself....
just wait until they redo this movie and replace the photographer with an AI computer tech
So cool to see Howard Duff as a young man. I loved him as Harry in "The Late Show." Great modern noir film you should see if you haven't.
Also, Lawrence Tierney as Colson. I loved him as the big guy, Joe, in "Reservoir Dogs."
Very good. Thanks for uploading.
great upload thank you
Thank you so much!!!!
This movie is mad 😮😮😮 im going crazy!! Its so good, so good, so goodddd! Wow!
He was just passing by.
Great film!
Beautiful i loved it😊
It's Howard Duff... oh how exciting.
Rock Hudson looking sexy and suave as ever
I know, Duff wasn't much of an actor or a presence. He was a convincing sleaze so he did work.
Paggy Dow, playing Ellen was a beauty - still alive at 95 y.o.
At 58.15+ Rock Hudson in an uncredited role as a club doorman / valet
Duff plays an odious character
interesting she seems to have retired from acting many years ago. is it possible away from the public eye she passed away without anyone noticing? i hear it sometimes happens only for people to discover years later they passed
@@JamesC1981 From WIKI :
"Dow retired after three years in the business to marry Walter Helmerich III, an oil driller from Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1951. He became president of his family's business, Helmerich & Payne. They were married for 60 years, until his death in 2012. The couple had five sons."
Peggy is definitely still alive.
Aww
Thank you 🤩🤩🤩💖💖
Great movie
Excellent movie 👍🏾
Brian Donlevy (Dangerous Assignment-radio/TV roles), as Palmer.
Peggy Dow. Nice to meet you.
AND...Howdy Duff, Creepus Maximus.

That was a clever story goes with out saying you should pull out when your in front ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
now i understand where "nightcrawler" drew its inspiration from.
Wow what a jerk he was....
Why is the beginning cut off??
An attempt to avoid copyright problems
Peggy Dow WOW!
How about starting at the beginning??
Chop credits off re copyright, 👎
Anne Vernon French actress plays Duff's wife.
still alive, aged 100
Enjoy The Show Folks ! 🍿
6:44 "I go up to see him every weekend". She travels San Francisco to Portland every weekend in 1950?! That's an 11 hour drive or 2 hour flight in current times. Probably took much longer and more expensive then. Flying there every weekend wouldn't be a huge deal in 2023, but in 1950: pretty rare! 32:24 "Give it to 'im Roy....the money, the money!" 1:03:30 "Trains always tire me"...so she takes the train: 19 hours with current schedule...every weekend?! Not likely!
There was the train. ???
Disbelief suspended for 'dramatic effect'?
There was actually coffee in their cups!! You could see it !
Good flick
Oh Donnly,👍He plays goodRolls
Good
Hold you hands out and look up at the sky!

Thanks got it!
How did you get that picture?

So, apparently, are you. Mewling quim? I adore you, whomever you are.
Еveryone well dressed with good hairdo, accurate makeup.....
In the beginning, all those women getting dreamy over Howard Duff. Lol. Not a handsome or sexy or suave man but life takes all kinds.
The first time I saw H Duff in a movie I had no idea who he was, but I was impressed. So I say, to each his own.
Except for CBS Radio not wanting him to return in the radio role as Sam Spade when it picked it up, I thought he and actress Luren Tuttle (ditzy, secretary, "Effie" ) were great together together !
Not handsome? I strongly disagree.
Sensacional.
How many minutes of this movie do we miss? No opening theme or credits or context? ⬅
Maybe try reading the intro below?
@@davidallen1418 That's not the point, fishbutt. Maybe try posting the full movie?
To my knowledge the opening credits are all that's missing.
❤ when we are married you are my true Queen of Heart ❤
Did anyone notice Rock Hudson as doorman 58:18
Excellent catch!
Shake Down ? Same Name As A British Film..With Hazel Court & Harry H. Corbett ?
Can you say "sociopath!"
Queen Abigail
Howard Duff great B actor
1950
Film bellissimo per favore . Traduzione in italiano.grazie. Giuliano da Genova 👍
I'd like this movie better if the main character wasn't so deeply and totally unlikeable. Otherwise, it was a good movie.
I'd like Macbeth better if Shakespeare had made him more cuddly.
I agree!
Agree I like Howard Duff but I hate Jack Early. I wanted to see Lawrence Tierney more i liked his character.
I suppose you could say Duff was doing his job.
That's actually what makes the movie good lol
This movie was made in 1950.
I was born in 1950!
He gets crushed by debris
Does this movie channel have commercials???
I don't know but I have the AdBlocker Ultimate extension, so I never see any commercials.
Beginning of movie is cut off.
That's what I thought, too.
Yes I found this to be the case too. I thought it was just me.
Hopefully she meant u BJob
❤ my money 💵🤑💰🌈💕💐🔥🫂🔥🔥🙏 is our future 🫂💕 my sweet Woman ❤
Despicable isn't the main character ?
These old. Movies. Had too. Much. Viole n e
I like most of Howard Duff's roles but he's so unlikable in this film An ambitious scumbag with no morals & ethics. He made Lawrence Tierney's character look good & more likable & Jack Early got what he deserved. I like when Lawrence Tierney slapped Howard Duff. This is a good movie but I wish Lawrence Tierney had more screen time.
That's the whole point he shouldn't be likeable lol
NO CREDITS🤬🤬
Howard Duff
American film. Not English.
same thing,,,,
@@catchaser52no
I suspect that English referred to the language.
They were talking about the language used
@@carlreed6186. Perhaps they did, but it was misleading people. I love English movies from the 1940 to 1980 era. American films became banal.

No way is this film noir. If you know film noir you know why I said that. Any agree? Still good movie
SPOILER!
How is it NOT? Ambitious narcissist caught up in career climb, plans heist which femme fatale foils due to desire for revenge. End drips with irony, too!
@@KutWrite the way it was filmed. It’s a crime story but not noir. Noir has darkness, lots of shadows.
This is definitely a noir
@@lrn_news9171 I say it’s only a good crime story because it’s not filmed in dark lighting with lots of shadows. The absence of that makes it not film noir translated means dark film
Three to one equals Cowards. But it’s a movie? Still happening.
