We also have supply chain issues in Australia 🇦🇺. Bloody Mayor Pete!😂😂😂 #howstupidaresomepeople
So it took 5 years massive incompetence, and a worldwide pandemic to get us here, but it's supposed to be magically fixed in less than a year. Hmmm.
I didn’t hear them blaming Mitch McConnell‘s wife when we couldn’t get toilet paper last year
Exactly! Or hand sanitzer, or cleaning products...
Literally when the sh-- hit the fan. Next they'll blame vaccine mandates because workers (in the supply chain) who don't want it are quitting or getting fired.
The economy was shut down last year and people were hoarding supplies. Today the economy is open and people are generally not hoarding supplies. Do you understand the difference? 🤔
Ofc not, thats not how victim mentality works…
Yeah and my cocaine connection!
Federal government is not responsible for Corporate, private owned, commerce.
This is a much better argument than Beau's. Trade is international. If the mayor had closed all the ports or imposed 200% tariffs overnight then you can bet Europe would suffer too, they are a significant trading partner. Like they saying went, somewhat disgustingly, when America sneezes, Europe catches the cold. It's as true now as it was in 1919 or 1929. Almost. If you ignore the Asian economies. With that said isn't it 17% of US GDP that comes from trade? Less than many.
A tiny amount, but it's not the primary factor
Well said. Thank you.
And when did we have supply chain issues last? Under 45, that’s when.
Get ready, get prepared #swpg
As I do not want to recognize or even mention 45.....I refer to him as -1..... meaning he is minus one from the 46th .....
So McConnell's wife, whom we never publically heard from, was the best choice for Sec.of Transportation. Sure....
You mean McConnell's wife who gave Federal Transportation contracts to people/companies that donated to her husbands re-election campaigns.
That was the first thing I though of when I heard about this 'problem at the docks'. But of course the states and private industry can run this sh!t better, so why are these fools blaming Buttigieg.
We've heard from her enough!
And Republicans will forget to be racist toward McConnell's wife, saving up their gall for their political opponents.
I happen to feel that omission of pertinrnt facts, is the same as lying.
The technical term is "lying by omission." A British civil servant once admitted to a court that he had been "economical with the truth "
A much more subtle but effective form of propaganda
Well, you are right!
It has exactly the same effect and ethical implications as making a false statement. It's harder to prove intent when lying by omission - Fox and their ilk rely on the ambiguity between malice and ignorance to not be pinned down as one or the other even though either should disqualify them from journalism.
@@jonb914 Well said
This is why we need an educated public. And people with emotional maturity.
Any suggestions on how to get it done
A large segment of our US public school population has been told for over 40 years in “that they are exceptional” or have “different intelligence”.
Even when they’re too lazy to take part in a school project they received a participation award just for sitting in the room.
This has led to a large group of Funning Kruger effect adult individuals who consider themselves to be so smart they don’t need to search for any details about anything. t
They can read a headline or a caption, listen to a 10 second soundbite, and formulate opinions about a story they’ve never read- let alone understood.

Pete Buttigieg is a multilingual Harvard graduate, and he was an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy who deployed to Afghanistan. He should be a prime candidate in the conservative hierarchy of masculinity. @John Smith Hey, remember when CNN was blaming Elaine Chao for the toilet paper shortage? Me neither.

You forgot them actually creating problems and then blaming the "others" for it!
As annoying as the supply chain issues have been to me personally, it drives me insane hearing people complain about the lack of goods, or increasing prices, and only blame the current administration in the USA, as if this isn't a world problem.
This is the fallout from the "Just in time" supply system.
All while forgetting that these problems did not start in 21, and by having a country that is so reliant on imported goods. When products are produced overseas you have no choice but to wait for them to get here... Who knew?
@@mikemaricle9941 Not really fallout, exposure of a severe weakness that no one saw and took no action to remediate because no one expected the shifts caused by a global pandemic.
Just in time is good for a couple reasons. One that everyone states now that everyone is an expert on it is reduced on hand inventory levels resulting in lower storage costs. If you don't have to use a lot of space storing parts, well that space and be used to make more things.
Another is manufacturers don't have to burn through old stock when a new design is released. And if a parts defect is found that has to be redesigned or reworked/repaired it means fewer parts will need to be reworked/repaired or scrapped; which is good for the environment because waste is bad for the environment.
Another negative though is that it encourages manufactures to make fewer spare parts which is bad for right to repair and means more things get scrapped by the consumer, which is bad for the environment.
Everything is a compromise, everything.
Ironically, the UK is the only place I know where the supply problems can't just be chocked up to the global problems, and that was the fault of their political parties & politicians which are most similar to the GQP....

Odd how Americans be like we don't want government interference in the private sector business. Then when the bottleneck happens because private sector is asleep at their jobs, Americans be like, where's the government interference??? Bad government, bad government!! Good grief!!
Exactly! 👍
But regulations are bad for business, right?🙄
There may be cases of private sector not responding properly or quickly, but that is far less of a factor in this case. The amount of cargo being moved is huge, and increasing. The ports are slammed. There is a shortage of truck drivers (largely due to low pay) and many other factors. Lots of companies may be greedy, but aggressive competition keeps them wide awake
Unfortunately, the polarization of people based on political ideology has caused people to blame everything bad on the other team and credit everything good to their team of "choice", facts be dammed.
Also, the efforts to polarize has been in effect in Republican politics for 40 years, while is seems they just went in full swing for the Democrats while Trump was President. I don't say left and right because from a policy standpoint both parties are rightwing, it is just the Republicans are further rightwing than the Democrats.

What I have noticed is that (broadly speaking), the left looks for solutions while the right looks for someone to blame. It’s why the right is so good at politics and bad at governing, while the left struggles with messaging. Apportioning blame is fast, easy and (in most situations) completely useless. The thing is that the supply chain started breaking summer of last year but there was enough slack in the system that most people didn't notice outside of a few sectors, like electronics. If any government entity could have prevented or mitigated this escalation, it should have been then. The other thing is that the supply side has been fixed and it is bottlenecks in infrastructure that is causing the problem to drag out, maybe an infrastructure bill is called for.
Last summer, you say? Well, I recall conservatives saying it was "Biden's America" last summer so it's still his fault somehow

Not in reality
From personal experience, if you only have some light shortage of things and/or have to wait a bit for some goods, especially non-essential ones, you have nothing to complain about.
You can start compalining when you have to run around half a major city looking for essentials like flour, beans, toilet paper, etc. because there's no supply (not because some idiots bought all that was there), or when every drugstore you go to looking for necessary medecine tells you "sorry, we don't have any of these", and when you have to spend hours standing in queues waiting for your turn whenever some essential item turns up somewhere to get a couple of packages and crossing your fingers the entire time that the supply does not end before your turn comes (aka how things were in Venezuela back in 2015, before things went REALLY bad).

They're also upset he took paternity leave after having twins. I think everyone should have maternity/paternity leave.
We do in Europe, as a basic right.
It’s in the Build Back Better bill - 12 weeks paid parental leave. If that gets passed, Americans will finally have a little of what the citizens of every other developed democracy already has.
I laughed when Chuck Todd asked Pete: "Why didn't you think about this last year?" Because he wasn't in office Chuck...🤦
Todd has gone brain dead; it's a hubris thing.
I still prefer to blame Jared.
As my 3 year old granddaughter says, “Juss b’cause!”.
One of the first things I noticed in news stories about events for which I’d been present, was that the reporting always differed somewhat from what I would have reported. I wondered why. What that realization taught me was that I need to read a number of stories, from a number of sources, to get to what most likely is true. People are inconsistent reporters, even without intentional bias or malice. When they have a position to defend, you can’t rely on a word they say.
When i want the real news w/ FACTS... I look for it on Beau of the 5th Column!
Now that's a guy you can trust for the FACTS! 💯
@@joanbowden3448 I have a high respect for Beau, and his teaching skills. He would be the FIRST person to tell us to not rely on one news-source, nor person for our daily information. Let’s not put him up on a pedestal. We all need to use our critical thinking skills, every time.
The old 'How many jellybeans are in the jar' game is best played by averaging the guesses of everyone else that have given input. Same applies to information that we do not have personal knowledge of. Multiple sources of information that can be investigated and confirmed or dismissed with proper research is the only way to find the truth and avoid being led down a path of lies.
Yes! When I was a writer/editor on a news and commentary site, I tracked down news sources in every country and region I could, about 150 of them, and would read accounts of the same story or issue in most of them, and whatever consistent thread of info I found in all was most likely the truth. Double fact-check it, on top of that, and then I think we’re approaching journalism. There was also a very clear line between opinion and reporting. I had repeated arguments with my editor-in-chief about what sources to use. For instance, when tracking civilian deaths in Iraq, I saw sources with different estimates. As I knew how the Lancet arrived at those numbers, I used theirs in my article. He wanted me to use a source with a much higher estimate, but I told him their methodology was non-existent, so far as I could tell. I knew there were more deaths than the Lancet’s estimates, but it doesn’t matter what you know if you don’t have accurate data. That’s how journalism should work, in my persnickety, old-school mind.
@@bethmoore7722 Very interesting. Thank you!
When I see "Curious George" upside down, I know we're going in. Another great essay, my man.
They are also blasting him for taking family leave. Saying the country needs him and he is not in the job. Wether he could do anything about it or even if he could remotely didn't matter
I once had to explain to an internet pal that many Americans (not all but far too many) don't really concern themselves with anything happening beyond their own tri-state area or geographic zone at most. The rest of the world doesn't have the luxury of being powerful enough to ignore other places that way.
I enjoy listening to you. Thank you for your caring and sensible talk.
You are a bright light in a dark world! Thank you!!!!
Maybe if EVERYTHING wasn't made in another country, we wouldn't have this problem??
"Between February 2023 and February 2024 the exports of United States have increased by $8.48B (5.33%) from $159B to $167B, while imports increased by $11.8B (5.13%) from $231B to $243B." "imports increase consumer choice, and help keep prices low raising the purchasing power for consumers. Imports also provide high quality inputs for American businesses helping companies and their U.S. employees become or remain highly competitive in both domestic and foreign markets." Global competition keeps prices down. Having lived out of the country I can tell you it's noticeable the small selection of items when shopping. Canadians often cross the border to get greater variety and lower prices.
Context is important. Even 3yr olds know this and is the reason they constantly ask why. Until they get told often enough "because I said so!" and the dumbing down begins.
I'm west coast Canadian..... dammit Pete!!
Traffic was pretty bad in my city this morning. Curse you, Mayor Pete!
They are masters at lying by omission.
Love you, dude.
I second that!
Third, anyone?
Beau please keep putting the truth out there, we need more newscaster in mainstream media bringing forward and debunking this nonsense.
Thank you!
This is what we call Ambient Tactical Deception in cybersecurity.
That's part of the problem with globalization in the name of profits. Well you have to take the bad with the good. When greedy companies stub their toe I feel better.
Pretty easy to find the shortages are global. Even comedians in the UK and Ireland and Scotland are talking about it. I'm feeling very depressed that this country is so obsessed with finding fault instead of facts.
I was having arguements with GM's about the absurdity of "just in time" ordering 15 years ago. This is not new, it's been brewing for at least that long. Blaming someone who has been in a position for less than 8 months for something that broke long ago is infuriating. It takes time to fix a GLOBAL problem. The man was not issued a magic wand when he took the office of SOT.
You know what they say - never let facts get in the way of a "good" story.
god damnit we have the same supply issues in europe... fucking Pete!
One thing you definitely won’t hear from a right winger ,,” so I was reading some international news today “…..
BEAU, love the shirt! Love your videos! Good on ya, lad!
I don't recommend many You Tube channels/posters to friends/acquaintances but I have recommended yours. Thank you for looking at the whole picture and educating those who are interested.
"Not really reporting the News" - Five words that perfectly sum up why America is the way it is today. Murdoch & co have turned 'non-News' into a business.
Goodness, Mayor Pete must be a god if he's powerful enough to wreck the supply chain of EVERY country on this planet.
Good grief, why do people exist who can't go one day without inventing problems so they can tell you who to blame and hope they look like heroes?
Whenever I see the upside down patch I say, "Oh shit, strap in and hang on!"
I drove a big truck 20 years ago. The turnover was over 800%. The pay was so-so. We need people who are willing to drive all day long every day, rarely see their families, have nerves of steel, and deal with dispatchers who are psychopaths. Anyone looking for a job like that?
Let's collectively sigh in relief that we no longer stuck in the society wide information silo that led to the vitriolic hatred of a woman who had her labia fused together by McDonald's coffee.
It’s not that hard to see why the supply chain problem is happening, Beau. (The pandemic situation is worldwide. Causing trouble in many places.) It’s not Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s fault. He’s been on family leave. It’s just the way things are. We can’t expect instant solutions in a pandemic.
@Kary - True dat!! We can’t even expect *instant solutions* when we're NOT in a pandemic. Because it doesn't work that way.
@Kary. Great defense of Buttigieg, however it is not needed. Beau’s hat gives us a clue that he is being sarcastic. Curious George is upside down! Whenever we see that we can rest assured that all is well. And, your heart is in a good place!
Disinformation is a real problem.
In my consulting days, we talked about workplace silos.
Corporate dysfunction is taking over in America.
Love this guy!!!
Why think for yourself, when right wing media can do that for you?
Shows how irresponsible they are: Cause the problems and then blame, blame, blame
That's what propagandists do: take a carefully chosen, small slice of truth, then build a giant lie around it. What I don't get is why so many of my neighbors fall for it. Are they all that stupid?
Great video, Thank you for providing context to the global issue not just the center focus of America.
