Watching his interviews in the 80s then watching recent ones makes me happy. It's not that I don't like the more soft spoken and chill Byrne before but it's nice to see him like this: laughing and answering better than he did before.

I do too. I think it is because I care for him so much although I've never met him. He's a very dear man. He loves to be loved too, bless him - not that common in a person of genius. I have come to revere the attention he pays to aesthetic excellence. He never pretends that art is a democracy - he rates intelligence and achievement. All best.

I was in the front row in 88 in the Glasgow Barrowlands, the tour was the Rei Momo album. David on stage with a complete horn, Rythim, percussion & synth extravaganza all dressed in white clothes, he was in the SMS spirit.. It was my FIRST concert, I met him outside, he wore a black French berry & long coat, I waked over with my brother as he emerged from the taxi cab, I was in shock to see him.. I said "Are you David Byrne".. He looked bemused.. I was just blown away to meet the man in the BIG SUIT!
I had every record T HEADS ever made, I was 14.. I'll never forget that.. What a day that was! 📺👀🎸☮️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I'm a massive talking heads fan starting in 77, he is a genuine music genius. I grew up in Los Angeles and every week would see one or more concerts everyone you could think of from muddy waters, Led zeppelin Bob Marley and of course the Talking Heads. I was lucky enough to see them live more than 15 times and all 3 days for the movie in Hollywood at the pantages theatre, I also saw them play the same show 3 other times that same year it just got better every time. I told all my friends that they had to go see them live and that they will be blown away. One show I saw them play was the us festival in 1982 thay played with the Ramones flock of seagulls the English beat oingo boingo Talking Heads the B-52,S and the Police in that order and incredible day in music history. My hope is one day they will reunite just the 4 of them like in the beginning. the stop making sence shows were greatest show's EVER!!👍🌎✌

although talking heads broke through, there is tons of imaginative, inspired obscure music from 1969- 1982, and many are catching up with what was going on, because $urface-radio and shallow-tv never played them.. They were not free enough for real artistic expression. only glimpses here and there...anyone who was 17 or older in 1982 remembers the sudden strange closing of all the new wave clubs in usa. that was no coincidence …worse things since then. That brief hyper euphoric era was the perceptive people trying to shine through all the anti-intellect media going on in the late 70s, 80s… and by 1990 it became so dull that many felt total apathy and gave up to the great Nothing.

I have enjoyed the movie of this show, many many times, over the years. I come back to it again and again and I think the thing that strikes me most is the energy of it. It builds from nothing to everything and David's performance was transcendental - not to overstate it. But the energy of the staging seemed to have everyone floating about an inch higher off the floor than they normally would. It was so much fun, such great work. Thanks to the Talking Heads and David Byrne for a concert I continue to enjoy, to this day.

David Byrne always came across as an odd alien observing humanity until the mothership showed up.
He seems much more "normal" now than he did then. I watched a clip of him appearing on a morning news show somewhere recently and, while watching the painfully inane new anchors engage in their painfully superficial conversation, I was shocked to realize that David was actually the most normal one in this group of TV talking heads, gracefully putting up with their bubble headed statements.
So I guess the oddest thing about him is how normal and engaging he is now.

    • @mistersato411
      @mistersato411 Рік тому

I noticed this difference too. It makes clear that his autistic-like stiffness and oddness back in the 80s was a deliberate persona. So all those interviews were performance art.

The funny thing is the other band members were so pissed at DB for the way he treated them and the way he announced the bands breakup but, they are the ones wanting to reunite. DB is the Brain and talent. DB is obviously the creative talent that understands music, production, art...... Why would he need to argue with others when he can simply offer musicians a wage to perform what he wants the way he wants and all parties are pleased with the deal?

@@jessica5497 Who said they were not friends? The drummer said he said publicly he wanted to reunite and Byrne grinned publicly and did not say no. Then Burn went home, passive aggressively, and sent him an email saying "I told you to never ask me to reunite again" That was on a VH1 documentary. True or not, you or I do not know.

    Heaven is a place
    A place where nothing
    Nothing ever happens
Perhaps a reflection of David's opinion of the reality he found himself in during his 'peak'. He was in Heaven, however he found it oh so mundane. Some say a state of nirvana., the eternal flat line or the zone.

Tavy@ Talking Heads were and still sound brilliant!!! There my second favourite band. After Pink Floyd! But Stop Makeing Sense is by far my favourite Talking Heads album! Its maybe the greatest concert i have ever seen. I cant seperate it from a Pink Floyd concert at wembley in 1995 i saw. I really cant!!! But up to Floyds 1995 wembley concert 'Stop Makeing Sense' was by far the greatest concert i had ever seen! I saw it in 1986 or 87, and was just totally blown away by it. Becouse i was only age 11 in 1984 when it first came out and hadnt really heard of them until the summer of 1984 or 85, i heard the live version of 'Slippery People' and said to a friend "who is that singing they or he sounds brilliant! And he said its Talking Heads its good isnt it? A said yes i like that" So about 6 month later in november in 1985 i heard 'Road To Nowhere' and said to a friend who is that? That is brilliant. He said its Talking Heads there good arnt they! After hearing another few of there songs that was it, i whent out and bought there new album that year 'Little Creatures' and played it over and over. Then i just had to buy 'Stop Making Sense' about 2 month later at age 12. And it was never of my turn table on my hifi. I couldnt get enough of that album!!! Then withing 2 to 3 years i had bought all there albums and there was a few i didnt like. It just didnt sound like Talking Heads! There second album 'More Songs About Buildings And Food' is brilliant. Thats my third favourite Talking Heads album after 'Stop makeing Sense' and 'Little Creaures' 'Speaking In Tonques' is a good album! Thats maybe my fourth best !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mr. Rogers' answer to rock music. This music was not complete without the visual. It wasn't different than the visual. Once you experienced it together there there wasn't one or another. The expression was unique and integrated and didn't need to be explained. In fact, trying to explain it gets in the way of how it comes to life in your own context.

I'm thinking it's because this is such a public forum, posting private people and their voices, asking questions, might require some permission you cannot get.. so, out of respect for that they were cut out :)

Maybe the audience members' questions were too low in volume for most people to make out, so the editor transcribed them so we could all see what was asked?

@@missa1063 well, gay people have been known to cave to social pressure to present a “normal” family life, but you’re right-there’s no reason to assume that someone who’s not in a heterosexual relationship is gay. It’s not uncommon for people on the autism spectrum to feel more comfortable living alone, especially someone like Byrne who needs to conserve energy for creative endeavors.

The video editing was terrible hardly any good shots on the percussion when he was doing a major fill meanwhile the camera is floating round somewhere else..especially through burning down the house ..i cant watch it... great music good start with David psycho killer was brilliant but after that the video editing falls apart.

Im not talking about closeups of fingers im talking about sensible camera operation and editing...It really is bad and musicians are not actors ..we like to watch them play there instruments..If they do attempt to act it is not worth watching just like the brown skinned keyboard player..He looks like he is attempting to fake play the keys while pulling stupid moves and facial expressions..
