  • Intelligent Steel Fabrication uses unique steel fabrication technologies to achieve labor saving productivity. The drilling, scribing, sawing, thermal cutting and shot blasting work centers in conjunction with “Intelligent Steel Fabrication” generates hands off fabrication with industry leading automation.
Smart steel fabrication represents a crucial innovation in the industry, bringing with it a number of significant benefits that are transforming the way steel is produced, processed and used. This technology integrates the use of advanced automation, robotics, the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and big data to optimise steel manufacturing processes, improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
Automation and robotics play a central role in the Intelligent Steel Fabrication. Automated production lines can perform operations with greater precision and speed than traditional methods. This not only increases productivity, but also reduces the margin of error, improving the quality of the final product.
IoT integration allows devices and machinery to communicate with each other in real time, providing valuable data on equipment status, energy consumption and operating conditions. Advanced sensors continuously monitor critical parameters and send alerts in case of anomalies, enabling timely intervention and preventing costly breakdowns. This intelligent connectivity enables predictive maintenance and optimises the use of resources, reducing waste.
Another key aspect of Intelligent Steel Fabrication is sustainability. Optimising production processes significantly reduces the environmental impact by decreasing CO2 emissions and energy consumption. Energy efficiency is promoted through advanced technologies that minimise waste and maximise the use of available resources.
From an economic point of view, Intelligent Steel Fabrication offers numerous advantages. The reduction in production time and operating costs, combined with higher product quality, results in increased competitiveness in the market. In addition, the ability to respond quickly to changes in demand and to customise products according to specific customer requirements represents further added value.
FICEP is the clear leader in automatic systems with hundreds of installations worldwide! During the past 35 years FICEP has drastically expanded the productivity of this automated comprehensive technology. This is the result of our continuous devotion to industry leading developments in both software and hardware.
FICEP’s focus, since it’s first fully automated material handling system in 1988, has been to enhance the efficiency of the material flow through the line. The challenge was to increase the percentage of time that the work centers (sawing, drilling, scribing, coping, milling, thermal cutting and shot blasting) are actively engaged in processing and not waiting to start the next section.
Until FICEP developed “System Simulation” the engineering of a plant layout was typically based upon an interview process with the client. The goal was to try to achieve a layout that was the result of some educated guesses and assumptions. Today, FICEP uses proprietary software to evaluate how different job types and plant layouts can be simulated for a detailed productivity analysis.
The benefits of “Intelligent Steel Fabrication” are numerous and cost effective. Most of the systems sold and installed by FICEP today feature “Intelligent Steel Fabrication” capability, as the benefits are extensive and easily justifiable as this automation cost represents a minimal investment as a percentage of the total systems cost.
