I can't figure out how this is supposed to work. After cooking my meal, the heater has just enough potential left to warm cold water up a few degrees, but never enough for a decent cup of coffee. I'd have to choose between cooking a coffee or cooking a meal.
Next time I do an MRE I’ll have to try to put both in a heater and take a temperature reading. I’ve that flameless heaters can be inconsistent in how much heat they produce.
Some of these are so stupid. You have a cobbler thats supposed to be eaten hot, a main dish and a hot beverage, but only ONE of the FRH which only barely (if at all) fits two things inside and does not have any heat left after you cooked one thing already.
You have to choose what you want heated. You only have one option. Some soldiers eat every cold. They don't bother with the heaters at all. There appears to be a large number of heaters in the cheaper low sodium MREs that don't work at all. I used one from a complete MRE that worked as is should have.
I think some flame less are just defective and don't work. Adding too little or too much water could very a problem. After putting the water and drink in the heater you are supposed to fold over the top loosely. Then you put it on the ground at an angle of about 45 degrees. Some just don't work no matter what you do.

My heater got 1% warm what did I do wrong? I think it was defective
