    I just purchased this filter and it does still get the x pattern to some degree. I used it on a 24-105 and got uneven exposure with darker and lighter sections of the image. You noticed them when rotating the CPL. I only bought this for video when shooting on the ocean which makes the uneven exposure even worst.

      Any recommendations for a filter that doesn’t show the X pattern?

    Great looking VND. I switched to a VND a few years ago for my landscape photography and have no plans on going back to 100mm squares. I shoot the Sony A1 and GM glass so have high demand for image quality. I have a $2500 LEE kit on CL for $399 as I don't want to carry around and work with that stuff any more. VND is King IMHO😎👍 Not only is the image quality holding up, but I get the shot I am looking for more often as it is much more fluid to rotate another ½ stop than change filters.

      I've warmed up to VNDs for sure ... they've come a long way since the cringeworthy days of horrid X patterns and harsh vignetting. I love them for filming and B-roll. Handy for more rapid handheld photography, too. For my hardcore landscape still work, I'm still attached to my Haida M10 holder system :)

      I like the Haida CPL VND for filming. Whatever filter you choose, get one to fit your largest diameter lens, and use step-down rings for your smaller lenses (buy once, use broadly :)

    I added a K&F Concept combined VND/CPL to my kit nearly a year ago. I can confirm that this set-up is much more convenient and less bulky than using a square filter system, and it has similar benefits vis-a-vis separate circular NDs (incl VNDs) and CPLs. It has become my default filter for landscape photography involving long hikes. I still use my square filters when I'm settling into a longer or more involved landscape session, or want the option of adding a graduated ND to the mix. The K&F version looks very similar to the Haida offering. The K&F version was less expensive than the Haida prices you mentioned, but that was a while ago so they may now be more similarly priced.

    I have a Black Magic 4K, so I will need an IR cut filter. Does the cut filter go before the ND filter (before as in closer to the camera lens)? This Haida has two thread sizes, so I am trying to figure out what IR Cut thread size I need.

    • @ScottDavenport

    Great explanation with minute details, just a question
    if you set VND first then after you adjust polarization, will that not cut the light further under exposing the shot for which ideally we will have to compensate in camera?
    Does is show vignetting if used with with 14-16mm focal lengths?

    • @ScottDavenport
      @ScottDavenport  7 місяців тому

      Polarization usually cuts some amount of light, 1 to 1.5 stops, depending on the filter. Final exposure settings need to consider both the ND and the polarizer. You could compensate in camera or readjust the VND. I can't speak to the 14-16mm lenses... I don't have one of those.

    Wonderful insight on the filter..man too bad its not a magnetic system!..that would have been so much better!..thats the main issue with these..that some of them are still thread on..which takes forever..so much more convenient when switching from lens to lens..me personally I would pay a little more on the price for that convince...but overall I am definitely willing to try this filter..especially with the reasonable price point.

    • @SergSpace

      And with magnetic you have 90% of slip and drop on the floor. Boom! Here it goes your money.

    hi, do the CPL ring rotate when adjusting VND by 1 hand?

    • @ScottDavenport
      @ScottDavenport  Рік тому +1

      Hi Long ... You can adjust the VND with one hand by gently setting the VND using the small handle. The polarizer will stay in place. If you push the handle to the 3ND or 7ND endpoints and then *keep* pushing ... the polarizer will rotate.

    Does the VND start at 0 and then jump to 3? I’m wondering if I could use this just for the CPL for when I don’t need the VND. It would be handy to keep this filter on all the time and then use the VND when needed.

  • @cosmashono7665
    @cosmashono7665 2 роки тому

    It’s a nice VND/CPL combo. But how can one use this with a small size mini matte box such as the Tilta and Smallrig…especially with the VND control stick sticking out so long? I did try out the K&F version and the adjustment was quite restrictive. I’m sure this would be no different.

    • @ScottDavenport
      @ScottDavenport  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, that’s a tough combo. Any accessory that affixes to the lens would be a challenge to match up with the filter.

      @@ScottDavenport Since you have had some hands-on with it...do you think slightly cutting off the lever would hamper its functionality in anyway?

    • @ScottDavenport
      @ScottDavenport  2 роки тому +1

      Rather than cutting the lever, I’d remove the lever entirely and use a safety pin or similar tool to adjust the VND. The pointy end of a pin should fit the hole that the lever screws in…. Enough to rotate it.

      Hi JaseEvoX... I don't have that specific lens, and didn't test on my 16-35mm (I have only the 67mm sample from Haida). That being said, reports from Haida is there is "no vignetting at >17mm" ... so at 16mm you might notice something.
