Powerful song
Incredible song, already listened to it like 8 times and just started with The Lone Furrow today. ROME usually gets powerful through its beautiful and heart-touching lyrics, but here the percussion and severe tone give an astounding feeling of overwhelm.
Lyrics, to the best of my abilities
Roger Scruton: one of the saddest things about the modern world is that people live in a tiny time slice which they carry forward with them. Nothing remains. The centuries to them are completely dark. Just un-illumined corridors through which they stagger into a single little sliver of light.
(?:) Every great civilization has a record of a period of a golden age, when there was no war, no dispute, no lying
It's not by shunning darkness that you'll know light
not holy fields of wood alive, of stone alive
And up in the rooms of your barren house
you're reassembling language to keep realities out
I know your credentials, and I know you'll tell
In this game of reeds, in the logic of the spell
my burning attachment to contingencies
For who wills the end, may will the means
When it's only fools and firebrand
(Kali yuga, uber alles)
The books of law in the arsonist's hands
(Kali yuga, uber alles)
Pretend to know me, and I'll pretend to care
(Kali yuga, uber alles)
And nothing lasts, that hesitates out there
Time to collect the stones, and what our guards left behind
stray out of being, and out of time
I know your credentials, I know your tell
Embracing that death you know so well
When it's only fools and firebrand
(Kali yuga, uber alles)
The books of law in the arsonist's hands
(Kali yuga, uber alles)
Pretend to know me, and I'll pretend to care
(Kali yuga, uber alles)
And nothing lasts, that hesitates out there
(unknown German)
The voice samples in the end are actually not German but Finnish. The first two lines I can't really make out, but then I can hear:
Sillä olen myrskyn silmässä
Olen sen elävä keskus
Olen muinainen järjestys
ja mikä on kaaosta on nyt toisarvoista
sen maailman riekaleita
joka ei enää koske minua.
translation would be:
For I am in the eye of the storm
I am its living center
I am the ancient order
And what is chaos is now secondary / irrelevant
Tatters of that world
which no longer concerns me.
EDIT: Looks like someone beat me to it in an separate comment but oh well.
What our "gods" left behind, I believe. Kali Yuga means age of strife and it is the final of four ages the universe goes through in a repeating cycle, in which Vishnu has departed our world and mankind is left mostly to its own devices. In Satya Yuga, the first of four, the gods rule over mankind in a golden age, but they all depart as dharma is not upheld over the three yuga that follow. Guards doesn't make much sense but gods does with that context.
Excellent Scruton quote at the beginning.
On repeat, as are the goosebumps.
This soundscape keeps making me expect to just hear "Kain was deified, the clans tell tales of him..." at any moment.

Imagine thinking Jerome is still a leftist. Through his themes and lyrical content you can trace his philosophical development. He's complicated. Obviously not a white nationalist of any kind, but like many of us he came from a position of anti-capitalism to a general opposition to neoliberal globalism. In many ways he probably can't be placed exactly on the right, in fact he might not even place himself there, but because of this opposition to neoliberalism he also can't quite be placed on the left either. Philosophically he seems to occupy a quasi third position, so to speak, though most likely he would not label himself a third positionist. In any case he is an open-minded, complex, and interesting lyricist, musician, and thinker. I'm looking forward to the next album
This trans person I used to work with was sympathetic to hyper Nationalism, so he knew Rome pretty well and would always tell me about how they were Leftists
Yes, White supremacist sounds like someone who want's to exterminante and subjugate every race other than whites, and he probably is not like that. But he is clearly pro white/aryan/indo-european culture, race, identity, legacy, history and nation (europe), and this no one can deny.
reuter is such a cultured thug. as a fellow skinhead-turned-neofolker i really appreciate his duality.
“You cannot be true nationalists without being socialists; The rest of you cannot be true socialists without being nationalists.
To be a nationalist means to love one's own people more than any other nation and to ensure that they can hold their own against them. But in order for this people to be able to assert itself in the rest of the world, I must wish and ensure that every member is healthy and that every individual and thus the whole is doing as well as possible. But then I'm a socialist!
And I cannot be a socialist without advocating that my people can protect themselves against attacks by other peoples in the struggle for the foundations of life and without standing up for the greatness of my people and thus being a nationalist. Because the strength and importance of my people is the prerequisite for the well-being of the individual.
So you are both, National Socialists.”
@Bear hn you're wrong.
You're confusing modern world corporate sponsored "soycialism" with the old world iteration.
All the proto-fascists were socialist, including Mussolini.
@Bear hn you're a moron, it's not socialism vs fascism or vs capitalism even, it's globalism vs nationalism. The former are just tools and means to and end, and should never be seen as the end goal.

Things are in uproar, and I witness this all around. Frightened of the right, frightened of the left, frightened of this new age that has swallowed us up. And no one has the answers." - Jerome Reuter 2019

"And I don’t feel like I’m making any stand. I’m just painting the picture of contemporary Europe in all its angst. I don’t have the answers either, and I wouldn’t ever suggest like I know what we should do."

"Holderlin means little to me. (...)"
Of course.
But the bitterness he adressed and resolved wasn't specific to Germany, but in regard to *revolutionary structural change* that flooded Europe from hegemonic France.
If You had anything remotely Central Europeam within You, You would have noticed that...
Your 'race' wasn't 'forged', but simply bred - and traits will be bred out again if they can't carry a _culture_ , able to make sense of life.
'Whiteness' is as meaningless as 'non-Whiteness' by itself (that neo-liberals and intersectionalists preach) - it is the *host of Christ* , around which Europe will eventually rally - not whatever twisted, materialistic 'Puritanism', You stand for when You parrot sponsored, 'supremacist' trolls.
To Adolf Hitler e.g., being an 'Aryan' was simply a matter of the stage of war and the subsequent lack of recruits - it will be the same to You, once Your numbers are lacking.
And then what ?
'Forging' alliances was never Your strength - and divided, You shall be conquerred.
Hoelderlin explores the mountain moving power of love and it's effect on the polity.
It is love for the fellow countryman and his culture that makes men face death calmly - not the abstraction of mere skin coulour or any idealized racial 'supremacy'.
@Bear hn
"A liberal Christian."
You can't even recognize the difference between 'liberalism' and 'traditionalism' - if one isn't a 'nazi'.
You can't grasp Europe and the effect of it's diversity, exactly because You are removed from it.
Living with contradictions and finding synthesis is what drove European culture to it's best examples.
There are no pagans, because the old gods don't talk to the people, anymore - and neo-pagans are pre-occupied with aesthetics, not substance.
And the 'host of Christ' has nothing to do with contemporary schism, heresy or secularization - it relates to the end of time, just like Valhalla did.
The Church consist of the faithful and the saints, it's not about membership in a registry.
'Supremacist' is the correct term for You, since You sport an immature attitude of superiority of Your own kind - You can't consider effects like 'brain drain' to emerging nations, since that would require at least cognitive empathy. Anybody who doesn't share Your sheer spite must be an enemy that is Your way and the sole reason why extremists are so marginal and prone to vicious infighting.
The decline of negroe ghettos e.g. doesn't require racial explanations - culture is sufficient and it is the non-white subculture of the ghetto that ruins the negro population, together with economic decline and political machines.
"(...) rotting sticks leaning on each other only gives the illusion of the safety in numbers (...)"
Sure, but soldiers aren't just born as You claim, they are made by exercise and experience.
"(...) culture the expression of their biosphere (...)"
No. It's not - and that's the point where You identify as a mere Darwinistic 'nazi', like Your masonic puppeteers that have inspired 'ariosophy' - while I stick firmly to traditionalism.
Christ isn't an _idea_ like liberal and socialist utopian society - but a reality that will surpass the stars. That is the reason why my forefathers accepted him when they finally claimed the Roman title, they have served for generations.
And what have You other than the deluded hope that if sufficient migrants overun Your country that petty middle-class 'justice warrior' twinks will swell Your ranks, because of their skin tone... You might as well hope for 'Wunderwaffen'...

Kali Yuga Für immer
Bring fire and chaos to those who wish to destroy our identity, after the wake of carnage then we can finally rebuild.
I love it how everyone is trying - and failing - to pigeonhole Reuter into their own preferred ideology. Probably because most of us cannot imagine anymore that an artist can explore and voice those opinions he doesn't share personally, so contradictions should be expected. To me, and I am probably just as mistaken as everyone else here, Reuter is first and foremost a critic of what is, immersed in alternative and radical streams of European political thought, but not clinging slavishly to any of them. Torn between his old school romanticism, longing for a better Europe and some lingering leftist sentiments. Fascists seem wrong when they think he's voicing their beliefs, but so seem the leftists, when they claim he's merely satirising such beliefs. I feel he is somewhat drawn to the right (mostly traditionalism) via his romanticism, but at the same time he has little love for parochial identities and short-sighted views of most of the right-wing radicals. From his lyrics I get that in order for him to call himself a right-winger, the right would have to evolve beyond Neo-Nazi sheep wearing New Balance shoes because a "guy on the radio" told them to do so. To me, Reuter seems right-wing or left-wing only in the context of distant past or a distant future of these notions. He's a right winger who has not yet been born, a left-winger who might have existed long ago. I wouldn't call him a "third positioner" either, because this term today is mostly a cover for wannabe fascists. If anything, he is a seeker of the real Third Way - not as a meek compromise between left and right or a loan translation from fascism and socialism, but something new that would push Europe into overdrive as a united polity, making it more than it is today, but unlike what it is today. But then again, like everyone else, I probably merely project my own beliefs onto his work.
I feel his "A Passage to Rhodesia" best represents his views. The album is from a point of view of a man fighting for his country and he feels a great sense of pride doing so, but as time goes on he realizes the harms of blind sheepish nationalism and loses sight of what he believes in.
