No fancy feathers and wedges here folks, just straight up 1" rebar cut into a hand point and a set of wedges with grass feathers. This is the best video ever for anyone who works with stone. So much respect.
Yep, so simple and yet so much respect you have for this man..., working with stones and chisels is not a job for the weak, it requires both patience and strength.
@@politic17 And yet, hes man enough to just straight up buy a wee thing of ice creme in the middle of his shift with no weird looks from the other guys. mad rspekt.
Good thing he has the super cap and steel toe nails for protection.
That is why many Archaeologists claim that Ancient civilizations were more advanced than most give credit for,.. They developed techniques like this YES by today's standards this way is crude and hard labor, but back in ancient times they did not have jack hammers & such, they had to to do with what tools they had or could ""invent" and make them work and did what it took to get the job done,,They advanced in their technology by adding to, or thinking & creating new ideas & ways of doing things just as modern day man does
@@aaronward4319 why would there be any weird looks ?? Are you implying that eating ice cream is somehow unmanly ?? Are you for real right now ??
Wow unbelievable hard work. And my son complains when he has to take the trash out for his boss.
Thank you, greeting from Java, Indonesia
He deserves a new Vodafone cap ... he is well worth their sponsorship !
My respect to this workers ,, reminds me when I was little helping my dad all day in the heat ,,
Thank you Davy
Thank you for sharing! This is fascinating! I have never seen rock splitting like this before. It’s truly an art. The man being filmed is so skilled! He knows exactly what he’s doing and doesn’t miss a hit. Incredibly skilled labor!
Thank you Lorien for watching my video, greeting from Java, Indonesia
Great video, I pounded spikes for CP Railroad as a young guy, this is much harder work and a truly profession craftsman. Most young people today couldn't even lift that hammer, forget about swinging it!! Thanks Dr G
That's true Grant Smith, mostly they only know the Internet and Gadget. Greeting from Java, Indonesia !
Yea cause everyones soo weak nowadays lol. Dumb commet. Im sure alot of people could swing that thing they just dont have any intrest in it. There is a difference.
That gentleman knows well the vein of the stone and knows what pieces he wants to get. Great video.Ciao
Ciao !
Yup, he taps the rock to hear it.
Sabiduria , ingenio y coraje , caracteristica del hombre obrero .
1" 1/4 rebar for a hand point and wedges. Getting back to nitty gritty. tons of respect
Thank you Ironic
Lo que mas me llama la atención es la seguridad en el calzado que usan. Enhorabuena por vuestro excelente trabajo, saludos desde Cáceres, España
Gracias Rejino por mirar mi video, saludo desde Java, Indonesia.
I just watched tens of thousands of years of stone work play out in front of me! Thank you for such a meaningful video. Stone cutting and life buzzing around it. (1/12/21)
Thank you Orchidorio ! Greeting from Java, Indonesia !
Whilst it is a highly skilled craft, it is extremely hard, back-breaking and dangerous work. The men wear no protective shoes or gloves, eye protection or hard hats. The possibility of serious injury is high. They have to be extremely careful. Thank you for sharing this.
All we need is a British guy in the background explaining Fred’s process here.
Let see...
Lol yes!
Absolutely agree, all they know is hard work , very dedicated people to there way of life.
Id still recommend steel toe boots , gloves and eyepro
If anyone has swung a 12 or 16 pound sledge hammer, that is some pretty tough work. And this guy swings it like if it were a feather. One tough hombre.
Thank you
I have seen many blocks of granite with holes like those around their edges. I am sure some of them were split by similar methods. The stone workers art is a very old one. I respect anyone past or present, who can do such work with basic tools and their skilled hands,. Thanks for sharing this art.
Thank you Jeffrey for watching my video, Greeting from Java, Indonesia
Pure fascination and admiration for this guy and the hard work he does n yet he makes it look like an easy sunday morning. Whatta hard worker. Whatta man.. whatta legend!
Thank you J. C. Sams, greeting from Java, Indonesia.
My work gloves come off to this wonderful craftsman.
If Thor challenged that guy to a hammer fight, my money's on this fella.
Hammer time.. Thanks for watching, sorry for the late reply.
Grande profissional muito bom excelente como e o nome desse país parabéns pelo vídeo 👏👏👏👏

Wow wow awesome !!! I have seen stone quary experts litting fire and hammer rocks when it's hot, to split but not this simple but effective technique.
Thank you Romeo ! Greeting from Java, Indonesia !
Hard working guys right there. I hope they make some money doing this . I couldn’t where flip flops and do this. Nor break my back swinging the sledgehammer. Hats off to you guys

MrZygy3 New York State USA here.when I was younger I labored for a Mason nights and weekends . Great money but you kill your body. My arthritis sucks . Have a good day.👍
I've been to Prambanan (Central Java). Probably volcanic rock. Looks almost like masonry cement (Portland cement & sand, but no gravel). Quartz would be much tougher to split. Typical safety rules for Indonesia, i.e. none. But he still has both eyes and 10 toes in the flip-flops, so must be good with the hammer and knows when to avert his gaze.
10 minutes from my house. Well, he was joining on Prambanan temple in 1980. And he still breaking till today. Thank you William for watching my video, greeting from Yogyakarta, Centra Java, Indonesia.
@Charlie K You are totally 10000% wrong
@Charlie K Dude he's been doing this for 40 yrs or so;he knows what he's doing !!
MrZygy3 - Great video! Thanks so much for sharing this from a rock quarry in Java, Indonesia. I have seen some of these techniques before but not so many stones at one time. I also am impressed with these boys loading the heavy stones! Wow! Very hard work. Is this 'granite' stome?
Hi Steve, it's volcano rocks from the pyroclastic eruption in 2010. IT's easy to find massive huge rocks here. Thank you for watching my video, greeting from Java, Indonesia.

Since 80's, they are Master. Thanks Josian.
It's so satisfying to watch the rebar pins bite into the stone
Thank you
Awesome video!! I use this trick prospecting in the states!!! Hard working men rite there!! My kind of fella .... like to have his company braking rocks on my claim!!!! Keep on swinging friends!!!
Thank you Shawn, he still swinging from 80 till today. Greeting from Java, Indonesia.

:-) Greetings to you also, from Champaign, Illinois, USA
I worked in Indo many years ago, andesitic volcanic tuff, breccia, sandstone makes up most of the regions bedrock. There are many artisans carving temple statues and other art pieces using this very workable stone. Great to see the quarry men getting the raw material! You should show a follow up video of the next step in the process from quarry to statue.
True !! That's good idea, i will try to record the process. Thank you Luc for watching my video, greeting from Java, Indonesia.
고생이많으시네요...
18:45 the only video makes me wanted Ice Cream from all ice cream ads out there.

My man's work is legendary 💯But look at him in those flip flops beating on rocks into 1 of those toes get hit 🤣🤣🤣😬

The tools look like they have been made out of rebar, certainly hard repetitive work.
Correct, thank you Hugh Trenchard for watching my video, greeting from Java, Indonesia

It looks so easy. It seems like they did not split rock, they split clay. But in real extreamly hard. Sory for my English.

Feather and wedge. Very old technique. Still works. Still a lot of work but faster than a saw.

Back in the day.... it was a honest dollar for a honest day’s work. I lived it and most always had money left over. Those were THE DAYS.
Thank you Fielder
If you ever bother to do any research into who and how the money we currently use is created, you will quickly find that there isn't anything honest about the money we are currently using...
These guys are human machines! WOW
It's amazing how soft weeds and small hand chisels can break hard stones. But it takes time and energy, this way of splitting rocks seems only suitable for small workload, if you have a lot of stones, or mining stone from the whole mountain, mechanized operation is the best choice, such as hydraulic rock splitter machine, same working way as using the wedge principle, driven by hydraulic power station, can instantly produce thousands of tons of splitting strength. Even the hardest granite can be split. You only need to drill holes of appropriate size and then insert the splitting machine gun head and to start the hydraulic power station. The splitting process can be completed in less than one minute, which is very safe and efficient, saving time and labor energy. Field work projects, also can use diesel or gasoline powered hydraulic power station, very convenient.
Remuk2 truk nya ya boss, asal jgn orangnya😀😀... Rosa2👍👍👍
The mushroom on his wedges scare me. If a peice comes flying off, it can cut straight through to an arterie or into an eyeball. He should grind the rolled edges off.
True !! Thank you Remi for watching my video, greeting from Java, Indonesia
Crack head
When he's done with grinding his chisels he can put on a pair of safety loafers.
And they have electricity available , very cheap!!!!
Or worse if it went through an artery.
Nice rock that splitt so easy straight down. Fortune! Mybee its common there? Here In Scandinavia its most stubborn.
You may also check the wooden peg & hot water technology used for splitting boulders some time around 600 AD in Mahabalipuram, Tamilnadu, India.
Dude didn't miss single stroke at the chisels. I would have smashed my hand a few times the first day.......and quit.
Don't try this at home.... Thanks San Anto
They would have fired you after missing one stroke. They would not have waited until you split your hand in half. Or you would be the dude that drives the truck.
all the grass does is stop the chisel from popping out of the hole
That also true, thank you Todd
The choice of safety boots does it for me.....But still great Rock spitting skills!👍
mantap mas bro
These people are very close to the Lord
I admire her hard work
Ini lah ke ahlian orang indo, JD kt harus bangga jadi anak indo
Amazing; thanks for sharing.
You're Welcome
Immense respect to this person❤
Does the spacing have anything to do with the rock's resonance along the line they are breaking?
It would be very nice a video showing the making of the wedges and chisels .
Two questions :
How much time do they spend to drill each of these holes ?.
How are these holes shaped ?
Thanks very much !
Salute from Brazil
Good idea, I'll try next time. It took about 10 minutes for every holes, just hit it by chisel. Thank You Obrigado Liége Saboya, saludos des Java, Indonesia.
I would almost venture to say that the boulders would split under these conditions, even without the "grass feathers". But still, that sure is hard work!!!
True, Thank you Jeff
Verry Awesome 💪🏼👍🏼Happy NewYear MrZygy3 😉✌🏼
Call me a wus but I’d have to wear boots, gloves and goggles for this job. Oh! And get a stronger back. Respect guys.
Hi Wus, thank you for watching my video, greeting from Java, Indonesia
18:25 that snow is pure power. Greatness.
Could you show us how to do that on granite using copper and stone tools only. Then make them perfectly flat and smooth with right angle corners and flat sides? Archaeologists say that it is possible, but never demonstrate how. Having programmed and operated CNC stone routers using diamond tools on granite, I know just how hard it is to process that kind of stone
Inspiring thank you
The power of grass / weed ;-)
Yes, Thanks John ;-)
