Black Rock Senegal presents : Studio Visit with Nengi Omuku

Meet Nengi Omuku
Nengi is based in Lagos, Nigeria who explores Nigerian textile practices in her paintings made from Sanyan, a pre-colonial silk and cotton fabric from Western Nigeria.
While in residence, Nengi was able to meet with a small circle of practitioners in Dakar who are revitalizing the traditional textile industry. Visiting the workshops of Falé Collectif and weaver workshop at Djilor, Nengi was able to learn about the textile creation process and examine how this same model might reinvigorate Nigerian textiles in the future.
