    • @Jmarosii

Carbon is used to remove chlorophyll from your extract. Chlorophyll will create unwanted chemical impurities and unwanted flavors in your material. Celite is used as a filter aid, and the carbon adheres to the Celite to filter out any carbon from your final solution.
There are a lot of filter media out there! Let us know if you have specific questions about any of them.

    • @Jmarosii
      @Jmarosii  5 місяців тому

@davidmcghee7696 there is potential loss while performing any refined extraction. In your case you may have had the solvent in contact with the material for far too long. THCA can precipitate out of the solvent! Running multiple post filter setups to clean ethanol extraction could destroy all your terpenes. Ethanol vs hydrocarbon extractions are both widely used and both have their benefits per desired end result.

5:06 you must go through ALOT of glass 😅. Microfractures are a thing my guy, and glass on glass is the very best way to get them. In short almost every type of "glass" whether it's good ol' silicon dioxide float, a quartz fusion, borosilicate, or even sintered aluminum oxide have a few key properties in common. Namely they are hard, perfectly elastic, have innumerable inclusions, and are brittle. Individually none of these are bad persay, but when combined they are horribly detrimental to glasses longevity... and the worst possible sinario is a glass on glass collision.
With any collision there's obviously kinetic energy that has to be dissipated. For most materials is no issue; steel will ring like a bell or deform if hit hard enough, wood will flex and dent... but glass is kinda an ass about it. Molecularly it's a stubborn old man about it; it won't give an inch until it collapses. This is exasperated when glass meets glass- that energy has to go somewhere. The physical structure simply says "i ain't 'avin it", boots in the mud and arms crossed. The only place for dissipation is via sound, thermal, and radiation... unless the glasses integrity is overwhelmed. Now complete failure does take a fair amount of force, but on a microscopic level all those inclusions are perfect little spots for fracture nucleatiom to occur. Worse is that gass is perfectly elastic: a shockwave is formed and spreads monstrously quickly, but the surface will spring back pretty much instantly... so one little "tink" of glass on glass is actually more like a pair of nanosecond jackhammers firing into each other. Lastly the brittleness comes into play. That energy wants out so damn bad it doesn't care how it gets it, which leads to fractures. Sometimes even full-blown elections of material.
So a tap or two won't bust much, but after a few weeks/months of accumulation and failure is inevitable. Just wanted to let ya know incase ya weren't aware. Figured I'd mention the what and the why. Much love and respect brosiff, keep being your stellar self! And thanks for the awesome content 😁

      @@tycho8525 don't tap glass on glass 😁
Unless you ment for the specific situation I time stamped, if ya did then few things come to mind.
      1) transfer the solution to a beaker so the carbon can be scooped in directly.
      2) add an interface so you can still tap but without causing damage. A ring gasket on the funnel spout perhaps. Hell even a quick wrap of tape would work.
      3) use a stir rod to poke it through.
      4) connect the funnel and the flask and lift it by the neck of the flask, then wiggle it back and forth.
      5) scoop with *EXTREME* precision.
      6) connect the funnel and flack then set the flack on the counter top. Smack the counter right beside the flask with the flat of your hand. (or a book if your fanger be delicate)
      7) use a large syringe to transfer the carbon. (has the bonus of no dust/spills. Its my preferred method when working with powders)
      8) pray for devine intervention.
      9) if its a non reactive substance use a plastic funnel.
      10) don't add the carbon, just skip this optional step.
I could keep going but I'm officially bored. Just remember that ya always got options holmie 🤙
