I've got to do this job on the weekend. I came on here thinking there'd be no chance of a tutorial but typed in "Replace roof mount aerial on Hyundai Getz", and low and behold... Here we are!!!
Snapped my antenna off some time ago when I went through a car wash (stupid me). I thought it was going to be such a huge job to fix it (I'm not real good with car stuff). So grateful for this video - clear, simple and concise. Cheers!
Thank you ... I was quoted $100 for installing my Getz antenna from Cheap Auto ....??????? after watching your video I installed it myself within an hour ..Im a 70 year old woman and sick of being ripped off ...Thank you again for posting this video saved me heaps
Thanks so much for the great video. My Getz aerial mount had become detached and my dealership told me they'd need to take out the ceiling lining altogether and claimed this would cost them over $500 "to investigate". Your video allowed me to just pull the lining down a bit and reattach the nut to the bolt - costing me nothing. You're awesome - thank you so much!
Thanks mate it saved my money and time. I took my car to local garage n the mechanic told me too leave the car for whole day so that he could remove entire upwholstry to find the bold and fix the antena base. Next I returned home and found ur video. Cheers
Thaaaank you so much!!! I accidentally broke mine aswell today and started wondering how much the repair is going to cost. But now I know how to do it myself.
thanks a lot. Thanks to you I've just finished changing my Toyota Yaris aerial base and will finally be able to listen to a radio other than Smooth FM (only station I could get without an aerial), so happy:) :)
Thank you for the great video - and so expertly made too. This is just the sort of thing the dealers would charge big bucks for. I thought I would have to drop the entire headlining!
Fantastic, thanks for this DJ. we were told by our mechanics & auto sparky that this job was bigger than ben hur, they had never done one before. Thanks for this, we'll change it ourselves real easy.
After seeing your video I'm going to attempt it. It's on a 2010 Hyundai i10 but the ariel looks the same. I've yet to get the ariel but I've now had a look at the lining and I can see that it comes away just like in your video so now I know I can attempt it. Thanks again.
I have a getz plate 08 and my antenna snapped like you are showing in your footage! Been wondering how to get it off but thanks to you you have explained how easy it is. Just need a 10ml ratchet lol. Great video. Dee from County Durham
Fantastic little video, Clear, concise, all that someone needs to do the job themselves, would encourage anyone with a broken antenna to undertake this fix, the knock off short little carbon fibre aerials on eBay work great!
Wow really well explained. Ariel snapped off and rather than using a drill bit and bolt extractor and risk slipping and scratching car I think Im going to change whole roof base mount. Hope this works on my old Kia Rio 2003. Wish me luck...going to use your video
@@DjClarky78 I did! Thanks to your video, my old clapped out Getz now has a brand spanking new antenna. And some Hammerite brushed on, where rust was forming under the old base.
I must do that Did not think head lining could drop down, thought it would be a glue job. My radio is lousy on AM reception, don't know if it is high resistance in aerial because of corrosion on threads, I cannot move it up or down also, pity they are not made of brass. greasing threads all round would be a good idea, even working it into the tilt pivot and periodically checking it for lubrication.
thanks now I might be able to fix my moms car there's a huge rust spot all around that antenna base and she can't really afford to pay dealership prices
Thanks - glad it helped you. Have a look for a chemical rust converter/remover in the hardware store. I'm guessing you're in the US? I had a look on the Lowes website, and Loctite do a Rust Neutraliser and a rust dissolver for under $10

hi, do you have any advice for replacing the rear fog light, took getz for mot and thought i'd save a bit of cash and do the bulb replacement myself, removed the rear fog light cover from the bumper, no bulb or fog light socket present, just a hole!!
Make sure the new roof fitting earths to the underside of the roof and use a resistance meter to check the radio end with one lead and the other to body earth near the radio cradle, also check resistance between antenna and centre prong which enters radio to ensure no breaks in inside wire. Good article on this on google, tyhats where I got this info. they said these problems make for bad AM more than FM.
DjClarky78 And now for the sad news, did everything as shown, even tried to scratch paint away from the underside of the antenna hole in the roof to give contact to the aerial outer sheath before bolting it up, then actually got a reading showing connectivity between outer sheath and roof "iron". refitted radio, No difference, only thing I can now do is alter angle of Antenna, smeared some protective grease [food grade, high temp] around the outside of antenna and inside roof area to ensure no corrosion of tilt mech also on thread for antenna stork. Radio may/may not be a problem, probably not.

Hi Kate,
That's an interesting question...
So, with the antenna removed (just base mount left) it is still too high to get into the garage?
You could try a grommet siliconed in place.
There are also things called "liquid tight plugs".
The only other thing I can suggest, is to get some thin(ish) black or white plastic - maybe 1mm thick. Cut a rectangle of it, then silicone it in place over the holes.
1) Cut the rectangle of plastic a bit bigger then the hole/s you need to blank.
2) Clean and dry the paintwork and the blank
3) Sit the blank over the holes, and centralise it.
4) Masking tape the paintwork around the blank, so you don't get silicone everywhere.
5) Remove the blank, then"butter" both parts (paint and blank). You butter both parts, to ensure maximum adhesion.
6) Push the blank down firmly on the paintwork, wipe off excess silicone, and put a weight on top of the blank to hold it in place while it dries - I'd certainly leave it somewhere dry overnight.
