A worrying sight. A sign of poaching?

crossbow bolt. Poaching deer seems to be becoming more and more popular. I've seen the result in Herefordshire, Shropshire, and Forest of Deen. Using crossbows. Scary stuff for those of us out early morning.

Yes, you don't know who's around at night. Thanks for watching. Steve.

Definitely an arrow shaft.. I believe what looks like metal is the fletching that did not penetrate the skull..

I’m guessing a crossbow bolt as it looks quite thick.
I’m also guessing it has gone through the top of the deers head near to where the antlers grow out and thankfully missing the vital areas.
Awful though, there are some real cruel people about.
Shooting any animal with a crossbow or bow is completely illegal in the UK.

Sadly there are no shortage of idiots in the world Steve, This looks like an old wound to me, but most certainly an arrow butt, was the deer functioning alright?..moving and such?..
Sad to see this, and makes one angry.

    Sorry guys,
This in NOT poaching, this is a twig / bramble stuck into the base of the antlers in the coronets caused by the buck ratching to start rubbing off his velvet.
    Great imagery though

That’s a weird one, I’m not seeing any recent trauma, or any sign of a flight, which suggests to me that it’s been there some time. I can’t see it being any form of natural injury. The length to me suggests crossbow bolt…again if it’s been there sometime, an arrow could have snapped, and hence lack of a flight. Can the RSPCA not be involved Steve?…if only for medical treatment.
