I’m 39 years old, recently laid off, and in a new phase of my life. What are my best options for steady income given that I have 425K saved for retirement, 10K in an HSA, and a property that might bring in an additional 200K?
Is it time for a career shift or should I consolidate my investments into a single account? If I go for the latter, how do I do it right, and what could be the drawbacks? Plus, with a $200K property sale on the horizon, should I combine my investments or diversify them across different markets?
My ex-wife is 17 years younger than me, and she made my retirement planning easier - one year after I inherited money from my folks, she divorced me. Easy!
That’s tough. Also difficult if you didn’t keep the inheritance more than a year. Always keep the inheritance separate. It keeps folks honest should they get “cold feet”-or find a desire for a “Midas touch.”
Especially if you both have a child under 18. The family maximum benefit kicks in. If take retirement early you’ll collect for all 3 of you until the child turns 16 and 18. But if you work before FRA, then you’ll lose forever the spouse and child’s benefits until you reach FRA. Waiting till 70 May lose too much family benefits. Calculating the break evens is a bit taxing, too. Can’t find a break even calculator that covers family benefits.
Thank you Rob. I have pondered question #1 for a while. My spouse is 9 years younger and will assume my SS and ~55% of my 10K monthly pension plus a sizable nest egg.
I've learned that there is a friendlier rmd schedule when a spouse is 10 years younger. Also, to stress test, consider ways of responding to different timing of first death. While plan A depends on two long lived partners, if i go before she is 60 there need to be important contingencies. If she is between 60 and her FRA there is another approach needed. A lot to consider.
Thanks for sharing such valuable information! Just a quick off-topic question: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
@@tomcavanaugh5237 That’s a shame then, because why spend your life with someone if you are not enjoying yourself. My wife is 18 yrs younger, and we have been married 31 years, so it does work.
On question 2, I always ask folks, of your moneies in the market, how much can you afford to lose in retirement? To many of us, we do not worry about keeping it in the market for inflation reasons because making something on it is better than losing 10, 20 or 30 percent at 67 years of age or older. I do not need to buy my kids new homes when I pass. :-)
Hi Rob, in a past bond video you explained the basics of bond value vs interest rate changes. Given BND duration is 6 years, why didn't BNDs value go up 3% the day the Fed cut rates by 0.5% back in September?
Depends on your finances . 1000$ in XAI213K is 4000 XAI213K if it goes to 50% of ath in 2024 thats a 600% gain. If it goes equal to ath . Its a 1200% gain.
Don't let Elons's XAI213K$ pass you by. This is a monumental moment in history, and you don't want to be left out of the loop. Get in on the ground floor now!
This is going to be a different bull market. With XAI213K coming to scene. Ben basing off previous speculative markets. I can see 300,000 next bull run.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Love the 5QF. Keep them coming. Very useful perspectives in many of them.
Really like the 5Q Friday sessions! Topics have been very interesting!!
Step 1: Acquire a younger spouse!
Check……17 years
😂

It’s reasonable to consider getting a financial advisor now, but delaying retirement might be a wiser choice

I love this format Rob. Hello from Annapolis.
Love 5 question Friday, great idea!
I'm the younger spouse and this was very helpful, thank you!

At least you have a sense of humor about it!

The importance of community governance in XAI213K cannot be overstated.

When planning for retirement, wouldn't it be prudent to avoid having a younger spouse?
Life is more than just being prudent, you want to have fun
@@HamiltonRb Fun? Maybe I just had a different experience with marriage.

Great topic. I'm 18 years older than my wife. Thank you!
I got you beat. 25 years.
No mention of life insurance. We have and im only 5 yrs. Younger then husband. He woul need to pass by 74 😂 Thoughts?

Survivor benefit is limited to BIA, so they won't get the same as the 70 person.
?
I don’t think this is right.
@watzup8700 primary insurance amount is the full retirement age value, so delaying to 70 doesn't change it. The SSA sheet shows it.
I think your claim is only true if the deceased died before their FRA.

The Fed cut rates on very short term borrowing. It's the overnight rate.
