Since I retired in 2020, I do a lot of road trips and skiing trips from my base in Texas. The Gin Blossoms music is on every trip! Great music, especially when traveling in a car! Learning the Hard Way is the song that starts my drive everyday!
Probably because not enough people bought it, and the ones who did were smart enough to hold onto it. It must not have had a very big release. I was lucky enough to find a used copy on CD several years back.
Wikipedia says that only 35,000 copies were ever sold. That’s hard to fathom considering their first two albums were multi-platinum and platinum, respectively.
From what I heard...this was their first album after a long hiatus...so they were on some super independent label. There was some type of dispute and the master tapes were lost, destroyed, or they simply never owned the rights to them. Which is why it doesn't appear on Amazon Music, Spotify, or iTunes. Kinda sucks...anytime I want to stream it out on my deck, I need to play it on UA-cam to my speakers. Definitely one of their best albums. Thankfully, it at least exists here.
Dude I swear you took the words right out of my mouth nostalgia at its core right there I think I got that MP3 player when I was like 14 or 15 would love to know the six songs that were pre-downloaded though would love to find another one of those that was my favorite that's so crazy man
A few more were The Stylistics- You make me feel brand new...Leo and the Pharmacists- Me and Mia but thats all I can remember...i had that mp3 too until somebody stole it from my backpack when I was 14
@@brandonbryan9800 If we had the same mp3 player, then I recall the other songs were Perfect Weapon by Communique, Laurel Blues by Ida, Wraith pinned to the Mists by Of Montreal, Win We by Thunderbirds are now, Sure shot by Yellowbird, and Me and Mia by Ted Leo and the pharmacists. Immediately after my mp3 broke, I searched for those songs. Gin blossoms was the only one that I couldn't get.
@@tomjackson1270 same with me Tom. I like Major Lodge and Chocolate Cake equally. As far as Mixed Reality... mostly hit and miss for me, although "Wonder" and "Girl On The Side" are standouts. :)
@@brandonkeaton5571 - Yep...feel the same way. Major Lodge & Chocolate Cake are right up there with their best works. Mixed Reality is good though...Break, Face the Dark, Fortunate Street and Forever is This Night are all great in addition to the two that you mention. Although....now that I look...I basically just admitted that 6 songs off that album are great! Not bad for an album that isn't as good as their other work. LOL 😆🤣😁
@@privatepenguin3137 hahaha! So you DO like it! I have to say I like Mixed Reality the least, and that's okay because I still do like it. Nothing beats New Miserable Experience though... man, that album still sounds great, and always flashes me right back to 1992. :)
Penguin is right! Album is better than I think it gets credit for but not going to argue that Major Lodge and Chocolate Cake aren’t better. But make sure you add Room in Heaven, Angels Fly and Here Again to the list of good songs. Honestly it is a more than solid album.
I think this would have been a smash if it had been released in the 90s with their other big hits. It’s as strong and as catchy as anything else they wrote that I’ve heard.
UA-cam and CD, apparently. (I don’t mean to be a smart-ass, but for now, it seems to be the case. Haven’t seen it on vinyl either, although I keep seeing this other album that looks like it, and I get all excited, and then I’m like dohhh…)
It is because the label owns the rights to it and won’t release it. Guessing there have been many attempts by the band to buy back the rights and masters. Glad I have a copy but indeed a shame it isn’t available for streaming for those that don’t. It is one of their better albums.
By far one of their best albums, but it isn't on Spotify. Shame.
Def! My favorite band ever.
Why shame #scratchinghead :p
I’ve got in my CD collection, good album.
I love this song 2024
I hear this song a lot at Walgreen's.

Included this on mine & my wife's wedding playlist at the reception when we got married
This is definitely their best album!!
Been there. No hard feelings. Missed opportunities. Missed friends.
This song reminds me of road trips to Colorado when I was little. Memories lol
How and why the heck is this album so hard to find?

@@privatepenguin3137 Yeah, that's too bad if the masters were lost. Digital is an eternal format though, so there's that.
@@privatepenguin3137Robin said at a show the other night that the masters are literally owned by a hedge fund at this point.
First heard this song on my old RCA mp3 player as a pre-downloaded song

Same! I only remember this and Sureshot by Yellowcard

Love this album above Mixed Reality and Chocolate cake!!!!!
I enjoyed No Chocolate Cake. Mixed Reality missed the mark for me.

100%
they screwed themselves when they went on hiatus.
why aint this on Spotifyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
There is a live version that’s passable. At least you can sing along to it.
It used to be on like Apple Music too and isn’t anymore. It’s impossible to find for some reason
The label that put out the album doesn't exist anymore. According to Robin, the rights are essentially owned by a hedge fund now.

Best album cover by Gin Blossoms but it’s their weakest album overall. The songs are decent enough but the production strangles the life out of them.
